Can anyone think of a song that Dudette might enjoy hearing, if she is able to visit here for a minute tonight and listen to it? I know she likes and has posted many genres and artists, but my mind’s drawing a blank!

    Bringing Booms poem over.

    Out with 2016

    Nostradamus in a quatrain
Couldn’t have made it sound more insane
That the brightest star in the universe
Could be replaced by something this perverse
The omens and predictions and such
Have really all been a bit too much
We shall take back our land in 2017
Stand up taller than the haters have seen
Pledge allegiance with E pluribus unum criteria
As Trump ends his days in a madman’s Siberia

      Thank you df!!!

Jacqueline, I’ve posted a note in the previous thread and a request to NW that she feature your exceptional, timely poem. This one must persist for all to read, for generations to come.

For me, it all distills to “our hour has come” … and it’s not going to be about tweeting, or blog posts, or marches – though all will be important.

We are each going to be tested.

Do we enable or do we place our life on the line to prevent another “purge,” another “holocaust” ….

Whether anyone is wishing each other “Happy New Year” 365 days from now is no different that what our predecessors must have wondered in 1861 … 1941 …

I’d like to wish everyone a safe, healthy and peaceful 2017! Especially thinking of our Dear Chips & Danny, and hoping that they can find some comfort and and continued healing in the New Year.

Nerdy I cannot thank you enough – you’ve literally carried this place on your shoulders for the larger part of 2016 – one of the most difficult years since we’ve been following the Obama Presidency on this blog. Nothing I can say or do will match the amount of gratitude you deserve, now and decades from now. You are a remarkable presence, and you deserve the best in every facet of life.

And to my fellow TODers, let’s begin the new year by following our President’s example, and by continuing to draw inspiration from him and our FLOTUS. We will be vigilant and hold the GOP, the media, and their President-elect accountable 24/7. Let’s work for outcomes that we can be proud of in 2018, 2020, 2024 and beyond!!

    Happy New Year TODers!

Nerdy, thank you immensely for the amazing job you have done to keep TOD afloat. In time of joy, strife, ups and downs, we’ve come to this space to get, if nothing much, a virtual hug, uplift, encouragement. This is a room of family and I am truly grateful for everyone here. Thank you for your every comment, advice, support of each other.

Chips, I have missed you tremendously and I continue to pray for you daily.

Dudette, speedy recovery. HZ, much love — always.

This 2017, more than ever, we must remain strong, vigilant and participatory in some form in the process.

Happy New Year’s Eve TOD ohana! Just 10:15 PM here, hubby went to bed (wimp 🙂 ) and left me alone with a half bottle of champagne and the sacred duty of banging pots and pans with spoons at midnight. Feeling very nostalgic for 8 years of much happier December 31sts but also determined that all we’ve gained will not be lost. The Great Cheat-o will not, cannot erase over half the nation. My prediction for 2017: he and his minions will be very sorry they messed with PBO’s plans. Out of the White House, the president and first lady will continue to lead the world’s good people toward a better future. BTW, anyone ever had a party where Cheetos were served? You know that mess on the carpet after a few get crunched underfoot? That’s the future of DT and his gang of thieves– ugly orange dust, swept into the garbage can on the first sunrise.

With much love to you all, and especially to our beloved Chips and our warrior princess Nerdy Wonka– may your 2017s be all you hope for ❤

Morning everyone. Woke with important things on my mind….rainy, gray day here…

    https://www.brookings.edu/research/the-emoluments-clause-its-text-meaning-and-application-to-donald-j-trump/

While much has changed since 1789, certain premises of politics and human nature have held steady. One of those truths is that private financial interests can subtly sway even the most virtuous leaders. As careful students of history, the Framers were painfully aware that entanglements between American officials and foreign powers could pose a creeping, insidious risk to the Republic. The Emoluments Clause was forged of their hard-won wisdom. It is no relic of a bygone era, but rather an expression of insight into the nature of the human condition and the preconditions of self-governance.

Now in 2016, when there is overwhelming evidence that a foreign power has indeed meddled in our political system, adherence to the strict prohibition on foreign government presents and emoluments “of any kind whatever” is even more important for our national security and independence.

Never in American history has a president-elect presented more conflict of interest questions and foreign entanglements than Donald Trump. Given the vast and global scope of Trump’s business interests, many of which remain shrouded in secrecy, we cannot predict the full gamut of legal and constitutional challenges that lie ahead. But one violation, of constitutional magnitude, will run from the instant that Mr. Trump swears he will “faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” While holding office, Mr. Trump will receive—by virtue of his continued interest in the Trump Organization and his stake in hundreds of other entities—a steady stream of monetary and other benefits from foreign powers and their agents.

He should NEVER have been allowed to even BE a candidate for President if he wasn’t willing to sell his properties first. Period.

  29. 66 desertflower
    January 1, 2017 at 9:47 am

    Zacklee!

“The first thing we need to do is face reality, If Eric Trump is so upset, write a check. We’ve got to stop acting like everything that happens to this guy when they complain about how difficult it is, if they want to give to charity, give to charity. They can write the money themselves, they don’t need to raise it from us.”

“Secondly, and this is the most important, we have a president-elect who has been treated completely differently from anybody else,” he continued. “The press has unfortunately gotten into this thing where they’re afraid of propaganda outlets like Fox News coming in and calling them biased. There is no bias here. We have got to grow a backbone. We have got to demand press conferences. We have got to stop covering his tweets like they’re news.”

“This man has some very serious questions to answer, We’re getting to the point we should start to wonder, is the problem he can’t answer? That he doesn’t have the intelligence to answer? That he’s afraid to answer? We have to bear down on him and let the American public know that this is not normal. When the Foxes of the world object to acting like a normal reporter as being biased we should just point them out and say, they’re lying, just ignore them.”

Good West Coast New Year’s Day morning NW & TOD family. I’m grateful to NW for keeping the door open on TOD. I’m grateful to Chipsticks for creating TOD and nurturing it as a safe haven for us. It will be a much needed site for this year. I’m looking forward to the OFA meeting to hear the suggestions and to be involved in the plans to help direct our future. My thinking is that citizen Barack will once again be involved and utilize OFA as a platform for his ideas.

One thing that keeps me positive is that every day there are new eligible voters watching and paying attention…and the country is demographically changing for the better each and every day. They can not turn back that clock. Children coming of age now or being born now, are multicultural or multiracial and there is nothing that the haters can do. There are more of us than them….soon to be even more. We have a President that will soon be a private citizen that will be able to freely work to make this a better place for all…unchained by the bonds of a President. He has built relationships and forged bonds with so many that share his vision for the future….and all of us will work with him on the vision that he has to bend the arc toward justice….This is a momentous time in our history. A time of turmoil, but also a time to shine the light on the RW vision for America without any shrouds. I guarantee that people’s eyes will be opened…that they will realize that they have been lied to and sold a bill of goods…Nothing worth while ever came easy….we have a legacy to preserve and that’s exactly what we’re all going to do. No time for sitting out…My love to all of you kindred spirits…Yes We Can!

df, Thank you for that little “sermonette” and words of encouragement and good reminders. Already had the TV on CBS so FAce the Nation is on in the background. I began to listen and David Frum just made some of the same points you did. Different words/phrasing, but his message is the same………that people will wake up, MUST wake up and ACT. He repeatedly used the term Constitutional crisis. He is very emphatic that we have never seen anything like this and that people must not be lulled into “Everything will be okay.”

      Thanks again. Yes.We.Can.

        January 1, 2017 at 11:25 am

OH! David Frum has been very vocal and needs to continue using his platform for good…a conservative that gets it. We can not explain away this crisis in our minds so that it fits in a little cubbie…NONE of this is NORMAL!!! Question everything! Demand they be accountable to you. Your reps work for YOU, not the other way around:) We have to step out of comfort zones and be our brothers and sister’s keepers…take care of one another and do the right thing. The right thing is hardly ever the EASY thing! Nothing will “be ok” unless we make it so.
