        Merry, merry Christmas jojocat! I hope this is the best Christmas EVER. I found out last night that my beautiful DIL is still at heart, a southerner and so she wants to understand Republicans and thinks liberals are too snooty and so liberals should make more effort to understand the GOP. Now I feel that I can’t talk about my politics at home either. Sigh. I have nothing left to say to her or even my son. I feel very sad right now. Oh well. I just have to shake that off, and try to be something I’m not: cheery and plastic. Wish me luck.

          Betsy, you’re a teacher. Try to explain some things to her in small portions. Don’t give up just yet. There HAS to be a reason other than “beauty” why YOUR son fell for her and married her. Here’s wishing you success and happiness during their visit {hugs}

            I’m just spitballing here, but perhaps she’s struggling mightily to reconcile reality with her GOP family and friends and her beloved South. It’s a mighty conundrum to wrap one’s head around, but I agree with GG — you are a teacher, and I know you have an effective approach cuz you’ve told us how you’ve reached some of your “special” students. 🙂 But will also say of course you can talk about politics or whatever you want at home. It’s YOUR HOUSE. 🙂 You don’t have be something you are not IN YOUR OWN HOUSE. Cheery?, yes. Plastic? Hell no. 🙂 You’re a liberal and there’s nothin’ even remotely snooty about y’all. would just brush that nonsense right off and laugh girl. You are not a label and you already understand Republicans cuz they’ve been showing who they are more and more boldly for years and you’ve been paying attention and been around a lot longer than she has.

            By the way, keep what JFK says about “liberals” close to heart

            If by a “Liberal” they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people-their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties-someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a “Liberal”, then I’m proud to say I’m a “Liberal.”

    Poor Rocketts 😦
    Boris Epshteyn told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin yesterday, “I can announce right now on your air that the Radio City Rockettes will be taking part in the inauguration celebration.”
    But reportedly, not everybody is “in line” with the Rockettes performing; one of the members of the ensemble, Phoebe Pearl, took to her private Instagram page to express her disapproval of the situation in a now-deleted message. She wrote, according to Perez Hilton:

    “I usually don’t use social media to make a political stand but I feel overwhelmed with emotion. Finding out that it has been decided for us that Rockettes will be performing at the Presidential inauguration makes me feel embarrassed and disappointed. The women I work with are intelligent and are full of love and the decision of performing for a man that stands for everything we’re against is appalling. I am speaking for just myself but please know that after we found out this news, we have been performing with tears in our eyes and heavy hearts. We will not be forced! #notmypresident”

    Hilton also reported that any of the dancers who do not perform in the Trump inauguration “will be sued/and or fired.”

      December 23, 2016 at 12:55 pm

      Shameful, to force these women into doing something that they don’t want to do by threatening them with losing their jobs. And the fact that not a single person in Trump’s circle can see how awful this looks is even more shameful. And I don’t want to hear anyone say that they should simply quit their job, its easy to be tough with someone else’s career.

      The United States allowed a UN Security Council resolution condemning Israeli settlement construction to be adopted.
      The Security Council approved the resolution with 14 votes and the US abstaining. The abstention came in defiance of pressure to veto from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government in alliance with President-elect Donald Trump.
      An Israeli official told CNN that his country approached the Trump team after it felt that it had failed to persuade the Obama administration to veto. Defying convention for a president-elect, Trump on Thursday put out a statement opposing the resolution.
      Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi also spoke with Trump by phone about the vote, according to a diplomatic source familiar with the call and an aide to Trump.
      The UN resolution calls on Israel to “immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem.” It had been delayed by Egypt on Thursday.

      Thank you all for sharing my joy! Yes, my friend Ann Williamson designed and hand-made my dress. She uses kimono fabrics because of their beauty and drape. As I may have told some of you earlier, with every red bead she sewed on the bodice, she said, “I love you, Obamas.” In the few second after our picture was taken, I shared that with Michelle who then put her hands over her heart. Such a precious moment! TOD went with me in my heart to the White House. I may never be in it again.

    Wonderful News, Lavithia Howard who was given life and had been in prison for over 22yrs for selling crack cocaine. Change.org sent out a plea to sign a petition to have PBO pardon her. I signed about two or three weeks ago and just got an email that Ms. Howard was one of the 230 people that PBO pardoned. Her story was very compelling how she changed her life while in prison.
