Dear Democrats, Winning is HARD Work! Ask POTUS Obama

by @zizii2

Okay, let’s cut to the chase here. It seems as if Democratic Party poobahs think President Obama’s back-to-back electoral feats were a cake walk that anybody with a “D” beside their name can replicate. And so all we need is to dispense with an actual primary contest, crown our fore-ordained nominee, sprinkle some liberal pixie dust on a fawning electorate, then presto! we crush Republicans in 2016. At least that’s what I’m hearing from Liberal doyen, Barney Frank.

If that is what he and the Democratic Party establishment believe then they really have another think coming! I gotta break it to him and his ilk: We will suffer an apocalyptic bloodbath in Nov 2016, that will make 2014 look like a summer picnic by comparison. Here’s why: That mindset of entitlement is not how Barack Obama won TWICE. Let me repeat: Barack Obama re-wrote the blueprint for WINNING hearts and minds across a wide demographic swathe in this jungle of American politics.

A Different Take On The Election

A different take on the election

by @zizii2

Much handwringing over the Democratic party’s electoral fortunes has taken place this past week. Teabaggers are ecstatic. The most loathesome wingnuts are going to make our lives even more miserable than we have already endured. Some young people justify young voter apathy by saying Democrats did not give them what they wanted, as shown below in the Carl Gibson piece titled:

Open Letter to Democrats From a Disillusioned Young Voter

letter

And Democratic Party leaders will probably learn the wrong lessons and move further repub-lite.

I think differently about what happened. I believe what we are seeing is the brick wall that Coalition Politics slams into when the regular institutions of Democracy have been irreparably subverted and perverted by oligarchs and their political minions who have convinced many Americans that nihilism is their birthright. What do I mean?

***

Normally, in a democracy, aspiring politicians and party platforms woo voters with promises of what they will DO for said voters, and the campaigns go full steam ahead in competition. And whoever wins tries to maintain voter approval and possible reelection based on their ability to account to the voter. Otherwise how do you win power again, right?

Wrong. Voters? What voters? GOP-Oligarchs’ answer to electoral imperatives and demographic change, is to shrink the electorate till they could “drown it in a bathtub”!

A Political System On Life Support

The results of Tuesday’s “earth shattering” election are quite revelatory, but not for the reasons bruited about by your average MSNBC/Fox/CNN vacuous pundit.

Although President Obama won’t use the word—and bless him for it—it was a “shellacking” which the voters meted out to the Democratic Party. But let’s examine this “mandate” a bit further.

The turnout for the midterm election stands at 36%, a low not seen since the 1940s. That’s 36% of registered voters. Voter registration in its turn doesn’t encompass all eligible voters. This Al Jazeera article has this telling paragraph:

Election turnout is often cited as an indicator of the strength of the mandate of winning candidates, but it can be a misleading statistic: Turnout is usually measured as a proportion of registered voters rather than of those eligible to vote — and census numbers show that more than 70 million U.S. citizens of voting age are not registered voters.

Get that? 70 million Americans who are eligible to vote aren’t even registered. What does this mean? That the number of registered voters is at best a bare majority of eligible voters. And then that the voters who turned out were a minority of that number. And then that the GOP “landslide” depended on a further minority of registered voters, which in turn doesn’t account for all eligible voters.

This opens up a veritable cornucopia of delicious dysfunction.

Memo to Pres. Clinton: Who are you calling a “wuss”?

by @zizii2

MEMO TO PRESIDENT CLINTON: WHO ARE YOU CALLING A “WUSS“?

President Bill Clinton,

Your recent statements about Pres. Barack Obama regarding military action in Syria have gotten my dander up. And so I break my own rule about only focusing my blogging energies on defeating Republicans.

Just what is it, Mr. Clinton, about this President, Obama, that makes you hover around his presidency like an insufferable helicopter parent? That last word is what it is, right? You see him as a minor who requires your supervision, no? Just as in 2007/2008 you called him inexperienced , and angrily told the Late Senator Kennedy that in your “days, Obama would be fetching you coffee”, you just can’t give him space to govern in his own right, right? You see yourself as his chaperon? Armchair quarterback ?

In the first month of the 1st term, as the economy was imploding and Pres Obama was carefully calibrating his words to both provide the unvarnished truth about the dire state of the economy but simultaneously reassure us that we would be able to make it out of the doldrums, you marched onto GMA and other stations to undercut him. You sat there and admonished the President for relaying too gloomy a picture about the economy. You wanted him to lie to us. Sugarcoat the reality of the financial crisis? Why? Because you cynically thought we couldn’t handle the truth?

You poured cold water on the healthcare law’s chances of being upheld by the Supreme Court last year.

You wrote a book accusing President Obama of being “weak” in the wake of the debt ceiling debacle in 2011, when he decided to focus like a laser on income inequality. You lambasted him for turning into an “occupy Wall street” class warrior.
