Pew: Public discontent with Congress has reached record levels, and the implications for incumbents in next year’s elections could be stark, according to the the latest national survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, conducted Dec. 7-11. Two-in-three voters say most members of Congress should be voted out of office in 2012 - the highest on record. And the number who say their own member should be replaced matches the all-time high recorded in 2010, when fully 58 members of Congress lost reelection bids - the most in any election since 1948.

The Republican Party is taking more of the blame than the Democrats for a do-nothing Congress. A record-high 50% say that the current Congress has accomplished less than other recent Congresses, and by nearly two-to-one (40% to 23%) more blame Republican leaders than Democratic leaders for this.

Andrew Sullivan: The Telegraph has looked into Romney’s claims that he subsisted as a missionary in France, taking dumps in holes and using showers from hoses. His fellow missionaries remember a different experience:

The Republican presidential hopeful spent a significant portion of his 30-month mission in a Paris mansion … It was staffed by two servants – a Spanish chef and a houseboy … for most of 1968, Mr Romney lived in the Mission Home, a 19th century neoclassical building in the French capital’s chic 16th arrondissement. “It was a house built by and for rich people,” said Richard Anderson, the son of the mission president at the time of Mr Romney’s stay. “I would describe it as a palace”.

…. Why would Romney go out on a limb like that - when it could easily be disproven by an enterprising reporter? Maybe this has something to do with it:

Tearful as he described the house, Mr Anderson, 70, of Kaysville, Utah, said Romney aides had asked him not to speak publicly about their time together there.

Thanks, Chips and UT. I won’t be watching Barbara, but I saw a clip of her interview with Herb Cain earlier. Watch how she responds to his comment on which cabinet post he’d “hypothetically” want. Too funny.

Is Baba Wawa trying to burnish her hard news cred? First she interviews Bashar al-Assad, now PBO. Well, at least it’s better than when Ryan Seacrest takes over the “Today Show” anchor spot.

I don’t think it matters anymore. Gone are the days that journalists could actually feel compelled to report the news. Today, they must take their orders from the corporations that own them, lock, stock and barrel. Garbage in, garbage out.

Ryan Seacrest is so over-rated. It seems whenever there is a job opening he gets it. The man must already have 5 jobs. (American Idol, E! Entertainment, his radio show, I think he produces that Kardashian mess, and he hosts a New Years Eve show.

Sorry Anniebella but Don Lemon is part of the problem…

At least with Ryan Seacrest, they can no longer pretend to be journalists…

It will be clear that gossip, entertaiment types are now fully in charge instead of pretending that folks like Don Lemon and the others are somehow serious journalists…

Rumors were that Newt was involved in that because Paxson was part of the group that was trying to oust him. Dick Armey is the one who gave Newt the heads up. Joe Scarborough says in his book, Rome Wasn’t Burnt in a Day, that he was Hume’s source.

Babawa is such a tool: ” 3/4s of Americans say that the country is going in the wrong direction, does that make you a mediocre president?”
Context: she quoted him saying a while ago: “I’d rather be a good one term president than a mediocre two term president.” Why is she such an ass?
Good point: close to the end when Miche comes in, Babawa jealously points out: “you’re holding hands {{cameras pan down showing their hands joined}} how sweet, {{ she simpers stupidly}}” —- she’s such a damned ass!

        Absolutely spot on…

Barbara Walters is one of those who got pissed because the Obamas - for good reason - never brought them into their inner circle…

She’s not been invited to any State dinners and is mad for not having been acknowledged as important…

This is a vile, unscrupulous, self-serving, vindictive, petty, small-minded, self- important opportunist who like the inferior, flimsy, shallow cretin she is, leverages her unearned status and visibility in the American media into the quintessential pay to play and suck up to me or I’ll destroy you wranglings that have yielded her the ‘close friendships’ of some of the worst people like Newt, Trump, Bloomberg, Guilliani…

I hate to say it, but there is also a very racist streak to this very horrid pseudo journalist of a woman who has completely deluded herself and bought into her own very false sense of superiority which hinges solely on the color of her skin…

The Obamas are a traumatic shock to her system as she is forced to observe what true decency, dignity, integrity, class, brilliance, grace, depth and all around amazing superiority, actually looks and sounds like…

None of that contrived or bought stuff…

Romney Unveils 3-Tier Marriage System For Gays
By Igor Volsky on Dec 15, 2025 at 2:13 pm

During an interview with the Boston Herald on Wednesday, Mitt Romney reiterated his support for a federal amendment to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman, but also said that he would establish three different tiers of marriage specifically for gay people:

Expressed support for a constitutional amendment that could create a complex three-tier system of marriage — maintaining marriage rights for straight couples, allowing gays who have already married to remain married, but barring future same-sex marriages.

“I think it would keep intact those marriages which had occurred under the law but maintain future plans based on marriage being between a man and a woman,” Romney said.

They have no long term goals or agenda, which is why they are fizzling out just as fast as the Tea Party. DOJ Uncovers Rampant Lawbreaking By Sheriff Joe Arpaio Despite His Stonewalling
By Marie Diamond posted from ThinkProgress Justice on Dec 15, 2025 at 1:11 pm

When the Justice Department first announced it was investigating Arpaio in 2008 for racial profiling and civil rights violations, Arpaio said “bring it on.” But he refused to cooperate with the investigation, stalling the probe for 17 months by withholding records from federal officials.

Moments ago, the Justice Department announced the findings of its three year investigation, concluding that the self-proclaimed “toughest sherrif in America” has indeed committed an extensive array of civil rights violations against Latinos

Arpaio has had a breathtaking 2,700 law suits filed against him between 2004 and 2007. In addition to the DOJ, he has been investigated by Congress, the FBI and a Federal Grand Jury for civil rights violations and abuse of power.

Setting The Record Straight: The Changed Language In The NDAA
    December 15, 2025

The National Defense Authorization Act has come under fire by the libertarians and the progressives. It was under this pressure that the language has been changed in regards to the detention sections 1031 and 1032.

In prior bills the sections in question would have allowed the indefinite detention of American citizens accused of terrorism, but the new language says:

SECTION 1031 –AFFIRMATION OF AUTHORITY OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES TO DETAIN COVERED PERSONS PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORIZATION FOR USE OF MILITARY FORCE

That was a small snippet they aired—-about 2 sentences from President Obama. Walters’ questions were ghastly, but I am always so impressed how fast Obama is on his feet, how he always answers in the best way possible. I loved how he responded to both questions, especially the longer answer I read to the 3 wives question, which was not aired in its entirety. But I continue to note the lack of respect shown this president. I don’t remember any of these type of questions with any other president—-why don’t people like you? why are people so disappointed in you? are you responsible for the horrible divide in our country? are you a mediocre president and do you intend to be a mediocre 2nd term president? Obama Leaves A Payroll Tax Lump Of Coal In The GOP’s Christmas Vacation Stocking
    December 15, 2025
    By Jason Easley

The President said, “Right now, Congress needs to make sure that one hundred sixty million working Americans don’t see their taxes go up on January 1. None of the workers who joined us here today can afford a thousand dollar tax increase next year, and it wouldn’t be good for the economy. Every economist indicates that it is important for us to extend the payroll tax cut and make sure that unemployment insurance is extended.”

Obama then said Congress can’t go on vacation until they pass the payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits extensions, “So this congress can not and should not leave for vacation until they have made sure that that tax increase doesn’t happen. Let me repeat that, Congress should not and can not go on vacation before they have made sure that working families aren’t seeing their taxes go up by a thousand dollars and those who are out there looking for work don’t see their unemployment insurance expire. There’s no reason why we should be able to extend these items the payroll tax cut, UI before the holidays. There’s no reason the government should shut down over this, and I expect all of us to do what’s necessary to do the people’s business, and make sure it’s done before the end of the year.”

The “Failed” Stimulus is Still Working
Posted on 12/15/2011 at 5:00 pm by JM Ashby

More than a year after the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the stimulus) came to end, it’s still having a positive impact on the national economy, according to a new report from the Congressional Budget Office.

Estimates of ARRA’s Impact in the Third Quarter of 2011

CBO develops estimates of ARRA’s effects on output and employment by looking at recorded spending to date along with estimates of the other effects of ARRA on spending and revenues, by using evidence about the effects of previous similar policies, and by drawing on various mathematical models that represent the workings of the economy. Using such analysis, CBO estimates that ARRA’s policies had the following effects in the third quarter of calendar year 2011 compared with what would have occurred otherwise:

They raised real (inflation-adjusted) gross domestic product (GDP) by between 0.3 percent and 1.9 percent
They lowered the unemployment rate by between 0.2 percentage points and 1.3 percentage points,
They increased the number of people employed by between 0.4 million and 2.4 million, and
They increased the number of full-time-equivalent (FTE) jobs by 0.5 million to 3.3 million. (Increases in FTE jobs include shifts from part-time to full-time work or overtime and are thus generally larger than increases in the number of employed workers.)

ARRA spending began winding down in early 2010, so if the stimulus was a “failure” as the right wing would have you believe, even though it’s still boosting the economy more than a year later, I’d sure like to see what success looks like.

Maybe the criteria they’re using is that it failed to prove their theory that government can’t do anything right.

    Movement on Syria:

Russia has circulated a UN Security Council resolution aimed at ending the crisis in Syria, in a move that surprised the Western nations.

The draft condemns the violence by both Syria’s government and the opposition, but does not mention sanctions.

Western nations said the proposal was not tough enough, but that they were prepared to work on the document.

Syria crisis: Russia circulates surprise UN resolution.

Nowhere near tough enough, but if Russia is starting to separate itself from its longtime ally, then Bashar just has Iran to rely on, and Iran is boxed in.

Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Hussain al-Shahristani said Iraqis were glad the US troops were leaving.

“They have been difficult years,” he told the BBC.

“We have had some successes together. We had some failures. We have some mishaps.

“I think we are all happy that the American soldiers are returning home safely to their families and we are also confident that the Iraqi people and their armed forces, police, are in a position now to take care of their own security.”

Entry #3,403 in why capitalism must be saved from itself—AGAIN:

The chairman of the French central bank, Christian Noyer, has said ratings agencies should downgrade the UK before France because its economy is weaker.

US agency Standard and Poor’s recently warned France its rating could suffer over the eurozone crisis and downturn.

“The downgrade does not appear to me to be justified when considering economic fundamentals,” Mr Noyer said.

The British Government responded by saying the UK had a credible plan for dealing with its deficit.

Speaking to French regional newspaper Le Telegramme, Mr Noyer said any downgrade should start with Britain “which has more deficits, as much debt, more inflation, less growth than us and where credit is slumping”.

French banker says UK should be downgraded first.

They’re eating each other, just to save themselves.

Co-author of Ohio death penalty says law ‘should be repealed’
    By David Edwards
    Thursday, December 15, 2025

An Ohio Supreme Court justice is calling on lawmakers to repeal the state’s death penalty law — even though he helped write it. Testifying before an Ohio House of Representatives committee hearing, Justice Paul Pfeifer insisted that the state was “no longer well-served by our death penalty statute and it should be repealed.”

“This is where the decision is made as to what should be the ultimate penalty,” he told lawmakers. “I have concluded that the death sentence makes no sense to me at this point when you can have life without possibility of parole. I don’t see what society gains from that.”

Here are a series of tweets that I hope will help us understand what is happening with the whole indefinite detention debate:

    @snkscoyote Cain S. LaTrans Kansas

    1) Bernie Sanders along with the rest of Congress blocked the President’s Executive Order -Signed on his first day in office-to close Gitmo

    2) as per the Geneva Conventions, they are NOT criminals, they are Prisoners of War

    3) they may NOT be released to a hostile country, if the country may kill them, as per the Geneva Conventions.

    4) they may NOT be released to the General Public for their own safety, as per the Geneva Conventions.

    5) they may ONLY be released to 3rd Party signees TO the Geneva Conventions,& roughly 150 remaining were released 2 Germany,England,Bermuda

6)The Indefinite Detention status exists, BECAUSE Congress blocked civilian trials for the remaining Prisoners, Incl. Bernie Sanders

    7) Through Executive Order, the President established the right to trial and Habeas Corpus for Military Courts, which did NOT exist

    8) This codifies that right into Law, so that the NEXT President cannot take away that right, with an Executive Order.

    9) US Citizens and Resident Aliens are EXPRESSLY EXEMPT from the provisions

icrc.org/eng/war-and-la… The Geneva Conventions. Please Read.

articles.cnn.com/2009-01-22/pol… This is a matter of PUBLIC RECORD. Executive Order signed Jan 22, 2009. 1st Day in office.

freak-search.com/en/thread/4747… “It passed by a 90-6 tally, with noted liberals like Bernie Sanders, Russ Feingold, Barbara Boxer, and Sherrod Brown”

    https://twitter.com/#!/snkscoyote

PBO signed his intention to close GITMO his first day in office. Everything that’s happened since has been a result of a completely resistant Congress.

I remember all the uproar when the President talked of bringing the prisoners at Gitmo to the U.S. We expected it from the Republicans, but the Democrats were just as bad. No one wanted the prisoners in their state, not in our back yard they all said. Congress did not come up with any money to move the prisoners. So who is to blame really? But these PL fools want to place all the blame on President Obama.

Buoyant economic data boosts U.S. stocks
    By Agence France-Presse
    Thursday, December 15, 2025

Positive data on the US jobs market, industrial activity and trade gave a boost to US stocks Thursday, but eurozone clouds continued to hover over the markets. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 45.33 points (0.38 percent) to finish at 11,868.81. The broader S&P 500 rose 3.93 points (0.32 percent) to 1,215.75, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite edged up 1.70 points (0.07 percent) to 2,541.01.

Sentiment got a bump from the report that new jobless claims hit a three-year low last week, suggesting layoffs are slowing down and US businesses are feeling more confident. New data also showed that the deficit of the US current account, a broad measure of trade, fell to its lowest level in almost two years, and there were buoyant readings on the pace of manufacturing in the Philadelphia and New York regions.

Barbara’s comment, “I’m looking at you, you’re holding hands…..” YES, and aren’t they beautiful hands, all four of them!!! I heard great envy in her voice. She has never had a relationship to equal that of our President and his wife.

According to Rachel Maddow, the Republican candidates who have led the pack (Rick Perry, Cain et al), persisted for approximately seven weeks. This is due either to the candidates themselves or that the Conservatives have about a seven week attention span!
