Good West Coast morning NW, Chipsticks & TOD family.
Thanks NW for posting the full version. I will listen to it at work 😘
Hope I don’t get mad again at Coop and cuss out loud at work 😄

  3. January 8, 2016 at 9:21 am

I just watched this video for 5 minutes and had to stop it. Cooper just parroting idiotic RW memes. UGH.

Meta, as I mentioned on the last thread, I think Cooper was doing exactly what PBO expected him to do. He was showing Americans what they are up against as they fight for sensible gun policy and how to combat it. PBO knows it will take a mighty effort on the part of the American people to bring about change, so he was saying to us, “This is what it will be like. It will be hard, but follow my example of how to deal with it.” Instead of recoiling from this kind of confrontation and tabling gun discussion indefinitely, he’s facing it head on and changing the conversation in this country. He wants us to do likewise.

      • January 8, 2016 at 9:34 am

I appreciate what you’re saying, jackie. I will get back to it and watch it because I have no doubt PBO shines but I’m really so sick of these idiots.

      • January 8, 2016 at 9:50 am

This is true,…he is forcing discussions on common sense gun issues…

This is profound and valuable. Its a welcome expansion of the President’s words at his presentation of his new ex. actions on gun sense. He told us again not to expect easy and to never give up fighting for what’s right. We need to help each other in this way, as you have done here. We cannot do this without each other. What I was amazed by was the courage of Daniel’s father, in the face of the Sandy Hook truther insanity and dangerous reactionary behavior towards him and his family. He deserves so much admiration and we should all emulate his courage.

bravo catrst….truer words have not been spoken. We don’t give up easy when people repeal us…we keep going. Keep going, watch the master bat away the talking points with such sincerity and make ‘Cooper’ look like the fool that he is by expecting PBO to agree with the nonsense that “if people FEEL there is a conspiracy then it should be acknowledged”. If people believed there are real Vampires and Unicorns should we let them?

Me too GGail, I had to focus on PBO and not the nutjobs were plants anyway. I was in awe of PBO’s ability to not get mad or upset until Anderson Cooper went all conspiracy on him then PBO let ‘Luther’ almost take over.

      • January 8, 2016 at 3:16 pm

What appalled me also was the people he had invited who had been closely affected by gun violence. How do you have the nerve to ask such insulting, fatuous questions in front of those who have lost so much? Yesterday, on my facebook feed, an old friend posted a message from Franklin Graham regarding gun control. We don’t have a gun problem-we have a SIN problem and and until we fix that we will just have to put up with being shot. This lady used to go to my church and we were spiritually very close, although she was very conservative, it didn’t come up. Then she joined an evangelical church and went full tea-party. I rarely see her now, and to be fair she hardly ever posts political stuff and I do all the time and she never challenges or responds to it. However, seeing this Franklin Graham garbage was just too much. I posted back, “Well, until we get the sin problem sorted, why do we get guns out of the hands of the sinners?” Really – how stupid, thoughtless, and cruel. I guess Canada has far fewer sinners than we do despite having gay marriage, government health care, etc.

No… Bc in twelve months the president is going door to door to confiscate 365k guns in 65k households.
He’s coming… So get in your bunkers and get your homemade terminators ready. He’s coming for your guns. Lol

Last night I watched a bit and then couldn’t.
What got me to Click—-was Chris Kyle’s widow who asked her question and Stood there defiant and challenging POTUS. Until the next audience member was actually speaking, Mrs. Kyle stood there and glared at President Obama. WTF??? Why didn’t someone tell her she could sit now. That the Town Hall wasn’t only about her.
    Anyway, I hit click

It was a tragedy for the young man who clearly had PTSD and Kyle thought taking him to a firing range would help cure him. That young man needed REAL help now he is probably up for murder charges and life in prison if he didn’t kill himself.

globalcitizenlinda, don’t keep your thoughts to yourself. This guy suffered with PTSD and his “friends” took him to a gun range for the purposes of trying to treat him. The fact that their best judgment was to take this obviously sick guy to a gun range is all you need to know about this entire sad affair.

    http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/1/7/1467009/-Leader-of-House-maniacs-has-started-clock-on-Paul-Ryan-s-days-as-speaker#view-story

    What took him so long?

A leading House conservative delivered a stark message to Speaker Paul Ryan: the honeymoon is over. […]
“It’s too early to judge the speakership of Paul Ryan […] But, as I have also said, the honeymoon is over,” said [Rep. Raul] Labrador, an Idaho Republican. “I think he needs to start putting up real conservative reform in the House and doing the things that are necessary to show the voters that he is a different speaker than John Boehner because frankly, everything he has done so far is no different than what John Boehner would have done.” […]

He added, “The question is will Ryan be a good speech-maker or a good policy-maker… The question is not just can you deliver on the speech but can you deliver on the substance. The question is whether the Republican party is a conservative party or not. I’m afraid that so far we’ve shown that [the Republican Party] is not a conservative party.”

Seriously, it’s been two whole months, which is like ten working days in the House (I joke, it was actually 20, which might be a record for a two-month period with these guys). Apparently getting an Obamacare repeal and Planned Parenthood defunding bill on the president’s desk just isn’t enough for some people.
    ….

The best are the comments. This pack of hyenas are a riot.

Last night’s Town Hall illustrated to us perfectly what we’re up against. The foolishness that leaped out of the mouths of some of the questioners was a sight to behold. Was it just me, or did it almost feel like some of the audience members were aiming lightning bolts out of their eyes at the President? These people basically said to President Obama; don’t do anything to prevent another family from going through a senseless and possible preventable gun tragedy.

i think the townhall was necessary. Regardless of the bullshit those folks said, when they get home and watch the reruns I am positive that some of them will begin to feel like idiots and wonder…did I really say that? In addition it also helped others to see just how ridiculous this resistance to making sure people are safer by allowing background checks really is.

As a bonus, friends and family member of the participants may tell them that frankly, their objections are stupid. so was worth it.

      • 91 0388jojothecat
        January 8, 2016 at 2:21 pm

nospin I hope you are 100% right. I pray they re-watch the show and see how sincere PBO was in his answers with not a lot of detail only going by their statements. I pray they see they were peddling a ton of BS and that their family members will tell them the truth that PBO’s EO will not prevent any of these people from going out and buying a gun after he signs it. The woman who was raped and thinks, “if I only had a gun to prevent this from happening”, she should pray she is glad she didn’t because he could have shot her and instead of standing before PBO she’d be standing before St. Peter at the pearly gates. The sherriff who claims criminals will still get guns, well doing nothing they are still going to get guns. If we had a better system like the one PBO wants to put in place with 24/7 background check system Dylan Roofe would not have gotten a gun in his own name to kill those folks in church since his friends were too cowardly to stop him. Someone either on the show or afterwards asked to name one mass shooting that would have been stopped….I would say all of them if we had a better system that allowed more time and background investigations. The after-show on TNN, I think the NYPD or that offensive woman reporter did not believe PBO or the Catholic Father from Chicago about guns coming from Indiana and sold with NO background check. One of them said, they never heard about this….well I have. Chicago police and Mayors has been saying it for years that murders in Chicago have been traced to guns that originated in Indiana. When PBO he got a luke warm reception from the folks clapping and some of them took their time standing when he came inside the studio. It must really chafe their asses to have to stand for a Black man.

I think PBO did an excellent job in handling all the speakers so much so It reminded me of the time he met with the GOP during their annual retreat. He knocked down all their talking points and he enjoyed it so much he wanted to stay longer. This town hall and that GOP spanking will be engrained in my memory forever.

New Orleanian of the Year 2015: Leah Chase
On the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, we salute a civil rights pioneer
    by Helen Freund

    January 04, 2016

With its first issue of each year, Gambit honors a New Orleanian of the Year for all he or she has done for the city. This year’s honoree is a familiar one: Leah Chase, the pioneering chef who turns 93 this week and who still can be found working at her iconic Treme restaurant, Dooky Chase’s.

Though many are familiar with Chase’s gumbo, greens and hospitality, her role in achieving equality for African-Americans is less discussed, at least by those who have bestowed upon her some of the nation’s highest culinary awards for her Creole cuisine.

On this, the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, we honor Leah Chase for setting a particularly special table: one where much of the Southern civil rights movement was planned.

You won’t see her memorialized in grainy black-and-white photographs of civil rights protests, holding up protest signs or sitting handcuffed beneath the scornful gaze of baton-wielding police officers. But in June 2014, when more than 100 veterans of the Louisiana civil rights movement gathered in New Orleans to commemorate the Freedom Summer and honor the civil rights activists of the 1960s, it was Leah Chase’s restaurant that everyone remembered.

”It was just a place where we felt safe,” recalled Doratha “Dodie” Smith-Simmons, a key figure in the civil rights movement who was a Freedom Rider and member of the New Orleans chapter of Congress of Racial Equality (CORE).

”For a lot of the people and students who came down here to work on voter registration, their fondest memory was of going to Dooky Chase’s for a meal,” Smith-Simmons says. “Because of what Leah and her husband did, people didn’t forget that.”

2015 marked the 50th anniversary of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, a crowning achievement of the civil rights movement that prohibited racial discrimination in voting. Its passage came a year after the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and in the years leading up to both historic events, Dooky Chase’s became a well-known meeting place for leaders and activists.

I’m in the minority I think here in thinking it was a really good townhall with POTUS being able to address the bogus issues. To me, it seems that those who are not passionate about politics find that a Q&A from people of different points of view is more compelling than a speech.

As much as I hated many of the stupid questions PBO had to address they were the sound bites people are parroting and adopting to form their opinions. Having them asked gave PBO the chance to counter them with facts and truth. Any time that happens that is good.
