I’ve seen the tweets about Bernie’s supporters harassing HRC’s campaign staff and volunteers and agree with the exclamations of “WTH!?!?!?!” Added to the deception with the union impersonations, the claims of endorsements where there were none, the use of organization logos without permission, Bernie’s campaign is on a path that will make it more and more difficult to want to support him if he is the Democratic nominee.

That a group of supporters thinks it’s okay for them to do something that amounts to bullying (and may have bordered on assault) reflects the tone — the attitude — of Bernie and those in leadership roles in his campaign. His “revolution” rhetoric has obviously conveyed that there are no boundaries…that values, character, morals, and RULES can be put on the backburner. Bernie seems to be indoctrinating his supporters – especially his young supporters – that working outside the rules, that bucking the system is the way to get what you want…to get all the FREE stuff he is promising. That is ironic given that, in his appeal to AA’s, he is spouting his involvement in the Civil Rights Movement with MLK – a man who worked *within* the system [and encouraged others to do the same] to make progress towards human rights. Yes, working within the system can be a long, drawn-out process, and the desired results may be slow in coming. PBO has pointed this out on numerous occasions. Is the *revolution* Bernie is touting supposed to make things happen *NOW*??? If that is the perception, then of course it will appeal to the mentality of immediate gratification.

It’s sad that this *drama and theatrics* that has become a part of our daily lives in this age of reality TV, Youtube, social media, etc. have invaded and changed the process of electing people to the most important office(s) in our country.

SW, when Bill Clinton said that some of the Bernie supporters were acting like the Tea Party, the Bernie people were outraged. But that’s exactly what they’re like with their anger, lack of restraint and unreasonableness. In fact, they are acting so much like the Tea Party that it does raise suspicions about who is funding them. I am hoping that the Berniebot lawlessness will move more people into the Hillary column. If I were not a supporter of hers, I would be now out of pure disgust for their actions. I had to block or mute dozens of formerly sane followers from my twitter account because of their outrageous Hillary bashing. Republicans are thrilled to see this on the Democratic side in a year when their own candidates are crazier than loons. They’re doing everything they can to promote Democratic Party divisiveness to ensure a Republican win in November. And the media is gleefully helping both the Berniebots and the GOP. They must truly be terrified of a Hillary win.

JackieG, I wonder how much of the craziness would have continued if the media had not given it a 24/7 forum… if real journalists [if there are still any and not just paid hacks] would have challenged their lies and outrageousness from the start. Instead, the media looking for the ratings the drama and entertainment would potentially generate…basically encouraging the actions…the more outrageous, the better.

And I agree about the Hillary bashing. Oh she is an awful awful person because she won’t release transcripts to her speeches, thus making her less transparent than other candidates who haven’t even been asked to do the same. And I hope, as you do, that more people will be swayed to her side because of it.

      GM swbluega.

Bernie Sanders is unfortunately unavoidable now, comes up in casual conversations, on bumper stickers as you’re out and about, etc.

Here’s a couple of push-backs to educate his unsuspecting followers (guess it’s too late to get through to ObamaGrandmama’s son/DIL, since NV Dem caucus is today).

Sierra Blanca TX is off Interstate 10, midway between El Paso and the ranch where Justice Scalia spent his final moments on earth.

Attempt to place Review-Journal obituary for Hillary Clinton prompts report to Secret Service

The Las Vegas Review-Journal on Friday reported a possible threat related to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton after a man tried to place an obituary notice for the former secretary of state.

The man, who identified himself as Don Schubert, was asked to leave the newspaper building’s lobby after he filled out a standard obituary form identifying the deceased as Hillary Rodham Clinton, and listing her date of death as Feb. 20, 2016, the date of Saturday’s Democratic Party presidential caucuses. Previously he had called the newsroom to complain about the coin flips that determined the outcome of some Iowa caucuses last month.

Again, Bernie and his campaign leaders have set the tone for his supporters. Granted, there may be extreme supporters who may get overzealous/go rogue in trying to promote their candidate, but with this campaign, it’s happening too often.

“Afghan Women’s Cycling Team Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

These empowering women are on track for a Nobel Prize

    Jessica Strange

    19th February 2016

Women may struggle with limited kit and few riding buddies in the UK – but in Afghanistan the National Women’s Cycling Team suffer accusations of immorality and threats of violence just for riding a bike. They do it anyway, and for that they’ve been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.

The team has been nominated by a group of Italian MPs for the 2016 Nobel Peace prize for their dedication, and hard-work promoting cycling in Afghanistan.

These strong women have been pedalling against stereotypes for years – they’ve suffered insults and death threats so they can have the freedom to ride.”

It is always amazing to me how the people who have the least power and influence are considered to be such a threat to those who do have the power. Is it that they fear if those that they have brutalized and marginalized come into power that they will be treated as they have treated those they consider beneath them? They are vile so they can only imagine than anyone else in power will be as well.

The deep-seated fear of empowered women in many cultures is truly appalling. In Afghanistan simply riding a bicycle threatens the patriarchal order. In the US, it’s having the audacity to run for President.

Bernie Sanders and all those who elevate him at the expense of President Obama do not have the faintest idea of the bitter harvest they are sowing. Democrats support our President in overwhelming numbers and we do not take kindly to vindictive, dishonest insults directed against him.
And to those Republicans who gloat at all the Democratic discord, remember this. There will come a point in this campaign when Hillary clinches the nomination and the power of President Obama, VP Biden, FLOTUS and VFLOTUS will be unleashed on the electorate, along with all of their supporters. If you are a GOP candidate, you should live in fear of that day.

If you listen to the Maddow he has decided to come out from behind the curtain…and not only straight out run against the President…but call into question Hillary’s support of the President…..

Bernie Sanders is not interested in continuing a legacy that he does not honor or respect,,,,and he has decided that he does not need the President’s coalition to win…he thinks that he can win with a coalition of mostly white folks…a combo of the purity racist left and the racist right wing…and perhaps siphoning off some black and brown folks…

.Bernie’s existence is about trashing the President…he runs on the emprog platform that the President is a sell out…that whatever he achieved is not enough..and that he is a failure..

he is not interested in down slate races in the states…he does not give a damn about any of those issues…even tho he has pat statements that attract the young and inexperienced….he uses these statements like a Pied Piper to draw folks…

      one last thing…

there was a tweet that circulated this week…that Bernie is a plant…interesting thought…

.I SAW HIM in the beginning…and I SEE HIM NOW!!!!

      • 33 Lovepolitics2008
        February 20, 2025 at 11:48 am

Bernie has completely dropped the mask. He has always been an idealist, a malcontent who’s never satisfied. The emoprog par excellence. What he’s doing is pretty damaging. He is pushing a fantasy, to young voters in particular. The fantasy that change is easy, as long as you mobilize and “ask” for it.

I’ve been worried for quite some time that once he loses the nomination, a good part of his supporters will get so deflated they’ll stay home and won’t vote in the general, hence permitting a crazy, war-monger republican to win.

President Obama will have a lot of work to do in the 2016 campaign for the Presidency. First to talk about the ACCOMPLISHMENTS of the last 8 years, than to REEDUCATE the democratic electorate about the REALITY of politics, about how difficult it is to bring up change, how change has happened in history only after long, sustained efforts. I hope he motivates the deflated Bernie supporters to keep being engaged and keep working.

Another factor will be the question of the Supreme Court. The death of Justice Scalia, and the obstruction of the republican Senate, may very well wake up Bernie’s followers about what will be at stake in the general election. I hope.

I have had the same fears that we Dems will be fractured way beyond what happened in 2008 making it near impossible to recover or win the GE. Your point about PBO and others campaigning for the winner to repair the damage is valid, but I fear the MSM will only promote the GOP making the Obama outreach only touch those going to his rallies therefore only messaging to the already engaged.

I logged off soon after I posted and am only now seeing your comment. They are a great buy for the money. I have the latest smaller version that sim cards can be added to for more storage. It is great to slip it in a bag as you go about your daily activities. The tablet was 49.00 (it has been lower at times); I added a cover and a 32G sim card and all came just under 100.00. Problems: some videos that are linked to tweets etc. do not play, the touch/click is not as sensitive as it is on other tablets, like the Ipad for example, and it takes too long to type things out mostly because of the problem with the touch commands mentioned before. While the smaller one is fine for its size and price, when I update my larger tablet I am going for another Ipad. Hope this helps.

The story of the Fire bird is the first ballet that I learned about when I was a little girl. The music teacher at my elementary school actually had us do a kid version of the dance (none of us were taking ballet classes; we lived in a time and place where that was almost impossible for Black children). My dream of being a dancer was never realized, but I am so thankful that it is something that has become a reality for so many (and more to come) that came after me.

I grew up in Miami, Florida I remember my elementary school teacher Ms. Sanchez taking us on a field trip to a Cuban restaurant (King Yayo) which has since gone out of business. Every time I think about Cuba I think about Ms. Sanchez. I had a neighbor that used to visit Cuba often, and every time he came back he would bring back a toy for my brother and I. The politics in Miami were a sight to behold; I mean if you didn’t say death to Fidel you didn’t stand a chance. Forget about raising money to run for office, you could have all the money in the world but if you didn’t satisfy the old domino players on southwest 8th street you didn’t stand a chance of winning.

I really believe that Bernie Sanders doesn’t care about the black vote in that he wants the black vote, but if he doesn’t get it he’s okay with that. I think that Sanders’ mentally is stuck back in the 60’s when it comes to the way he views African Americans. I think that Sanders admired the young black fire brands of the 60’s, I think that it instilled in him the way that he thinks African Americans should act. But Bernie’s problem is that he got left behind, those young black fire brands of the 60’s are now doctors and lawyers and teachers that now believe that to make a social change you must work within the system and not look for ways to blow up the system. I bet if you could read Bernie’s mind it would say “why aren’t these blacks out there raising hell and trying to blow up the system.” But what Bernie doesn’t understand is that in fact we are out there blowing up the system, we’re just doing it by becoming the first African American Attorney General, the first Latino Supreme Court Justice. That is how we blow up the system. You blow up the system by displaying a picture of a little black boy touching the hair of the first African American President in the oval office. That one picture alone is more powerful than anything Bernie Sanders has said since he decided to run for President.

      Right on.

Sometimes I just think that the older people who support Bernie just want to relive their youth, want to inspire the millennials to emulate their brand of counterculture. But watching PBO get his business done, work on that very long list of CHANGE one by one, every stealth move, every victory won in the face of horrendous obstruction - this extraordinary example should be teaching us a very, very valuable lesson. I’m more than shocked and disgusted and sickened his work is being dismissed and disrespected. WE cannot let them rewrite our history.

Your comment, which I completely agree with, made me think that by challenging from the left with cynics and ararchists in his camp, Bernie hasn’t so much pushed the campaign to the left as he has made us stand up for the way Barack Obama “gets his business done”. Without corruption, cronyism, through extraordinary obstruction and downright hatred he has shown us how its done. If we want progress, with stability and interrelatedness and fairness we have to follow his lead. I think we are finally asking ourselves do we want more of the Obama approach. YES WE DO.

I agree that we are seeing a huge challenge to the status quo by the President. His is doing this by these three efforts, respecting, empowering and including and certainly not by blowing up our system. There are anarchists from the right and from the left. Swoden and Bundy are cut fromt he same cloth. These are people Sanders might think are fighters not losers. Similar to Trump’s thinking. Absolutely no maturity in their perspective.

Can you imagine who many multitudes of infinity this ripples throughout the last 8 years and going forward? We see it also in that sweet girl who is devastated that her hero PBO is leaving office and she is not ready.

As the end of his presidency draws near, we are all going to be feeling the depth of his service in such a different, more profound way. Even though we do so now in many ways, it will be different. We will make the transition with him, somehow, some way.

I so agree. I think of all those pictures of the President with children. How each one of them will have that special memory that will go with them thru their lives.

My anger is getting so deep at the disrespect our President is getting from the BS people and how all I hear is what he didn’t do. When I am confronted with these people I am so angry I get tears in my eyes. I feel like I am going to explode. I feel like those of us here are the only ones who understand the depth of his touch. So many only see the surface. I pray the Dems will not allow the insurgency of the BS crowd.

In contrast with President Obama and the First Lady’s beautiful approach to our little ones:
This is keeping me up nights —-
Egypt: “Ahmed Mansour Karni has been convicted of committing four murders, attempting another eight, vandalising property and threatening police officers - all before the age of two”. Ahmed was one of 115 defendants who were all handed life sentences at the same time at the court in western Cairo for crimes allegedly committed in early 2014….. His defence attorney, Faisal al-Sayd, told the Jerusalem Post the child’s name had been added to the list by mistake… but then the case was transferred to the military court and the child was sentenced in absentia in an ensuing court hearing. “This proves that the judge did not read the case”.
Ahmed was one year old when he was given a life sentence.

when a candidate running on the Democratic Party ticket trashes the achievements of the seating Dem President , do they realize that no only are they diminishing the President’s legacy but that they are also removing a critical basis on which other Dem candidates at all levels have to run during this election cycle?

instead of Dem candidates using the President’s achievements as part of the need to get a dem POTUS, Senate, House, Legislatures, now this is being shredded by a candidate and his followers who believe in political purity or nothing (either you get all the policy or nothing at all).

I so agree linda. I worry about the down ticket people. When folks only think of the top ticket purity they don’t care about the rest.

it is going to be hard to defend achievements which one dem candidate thinks are minimal and are in need of a “revolution”

Haven’t even had my coffee yet, but had to jump in for a minute … just heard a social media reporter on MSNBC who covers SCOTUS describe the “huge, physically kind of florid” Scalia as “a three-dimensional jurist with, unfortunately sometimes, a two-dimensional world view.”

And she was being kind, I’m sure.

“There are those who contend that it does not benefit African Americans to get them into the University of Texas where they do not do well, as opposed to having them go to a less-advanced school, a slower-track school where they do well.”

    Justice Antonin Scalia

Pat Buchana once said “When god puts his hands on a man, he takes his hand off of him.” I’m sure Scalia was a great guy to all his friends, I’m sure he never stole a bicycle. But he did write some of the most corrosive opinions a Justice could write.

Not only did he write corrosive opinions, some of his statements from the bench and away from the bench were very divisive and mean spirited.

Fisher v. University of Texas, Scalia said: “There are those who contend that it does not benefit African-Americans to get them into the University of Texas, where they do not do well as opposed to having them go to a less-advanced school … a slower-track school where they do well.”

Wisconsin blocks federal funds from reaching Planned Parenthood

(Reuters) - Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker signed two bills into law on Thursday that block federal funding from Planned Parenthood and could cost the local organization millions of dollars.

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin could lose about $7.5 million a year because of the measures, an organization spokeswoman said.

One of the new Wisconsin rules requires the state to apply for federal “Title X” family planning grant money and to give those monies to “less controversial public entities” such as state, county and local health departments and clinics, a statement from Walker’s office said.

Planned Parenthood is currently the only entity in Wisconsin receiving this federal money and the funds will not be sent to the organization, the statement said…
