Six New Jersey newspapers owned by newspaper conglomerate Gannett are calling on Chris Christie to step down as governor in a joint editorial released ahead of the polls closing on Super Tuesday.

The papers bash Christie for his recent endorsement of GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump and cast him as having abandoned the state around his own failed presidential bid.

“We’re fed up with Gov. Chris Christie’s arrogance. … We’re fed up with his long neglect of the state to pursue his own selfish agenda.”

“We’re disgusted with his endorsement of Donald Trump after he spent months on the campaign trail trashing him, calling him unqualified by temperament and experience to be president.”

Trump treats everybody like scum-that his whole act. If Christie didn’t get that, it’s on him. I’m sure DT takes great delight in humiliating Christie and probably thinks the whole thing is a good joke.

And this is how Christie treats people - as seen on numerous occasions - with his wife cackling on the side. He treats everyone rudely while his “servants” look on. Wonder if he is realising Trump is exactly the same - just one step up the ladder. He has to have been promised something big to let Trump treat him this way - does it not occur to him, Trump will have no way to meet those promises?

“Donald Trump is the only candidate who has dealt almost exclusively in the politics of personal insult,” [said] Mark DeMoss, who sits on the Liberty University’s board…

“The bullying tactics of personal insult have no defense — and certainly not for anyone who claims to be a follower of Christ. That’s what’s disturbing to so many people. It’s not Christ-like behavior…

“I think a lot of what we’ve seen from Donald Trump will prove to be difficult to explain by evangelicals who have backed him. Watching last weekend’s escapades about the KKK, I don’t see how an evangelical backer can feel good about that.”

      GM swbluega.

We in TODville know how much MSM has contributed to the jaw-droppingly embarrassing debacle known as “Americans elect the next POTUS” with their WSSQ (#WhiteSupremacyStatusQuo) that we discussed earlier this month.

We also know how ignorant actually voters can be — not talking about the I’m-busy-with-everything-life-throws-at-me-no-time-for-news ignorance, but dig-in-your-heels whether it makes sense or not ignorance.

Immediately after the #RoseburgOR mass shooting on college campus last year.@CBSradionews aired an interview with a woman who said that the mentally ill have a constitutional right to bear arms (“shall not be infringed” regardless of the competency of the person in question). Zero pushback or followup, but this is the mindset of those who fear “Obama’s gonna get yer guns.”

And now this, from a Congress who has only demonstrated competence in naming US post offices.

      • 45 swbluega
        March 2, 2025 at 9:15 am

Yeah, arapaho415, I suspect that many of Bernie’s supporters have the same mindset regarding the details because they are fighting too hard — investing too much of their minds and emotions — for the surface stuff. The “if I’m not happy, nobody’s going to be happy,” mindset. They fail to see that not looking at the big picture will bring about a bad result that will most likely impact them more than others. [sigh]

So that mindset extended to our cracker jack Congress…something as simple as naming a post office -the *one* thing you could count on them doing during their limited presence in DC. SMH

Good! I posted this article title on the last thread. Someone found it and posted the link to it. I found it explains to me why my brother can swing from Bernie to Trump without missing a beat. I thought how can that be ideologically? Now I get it as we were raised in an authoritative family. Many of my era fit that mold. Both my brothers stayed of that mindset. I married, went into teaching, traveled extensively, moved to a different part of the country with many Liberal friends (my mind was more open to other ways of doing things).

        March 2, 2025 at 10:27 am

She has not endorsed, and the vitriol from the BS supporters toward her for not endorsing reached fever pitch yesterday.

It’s never their own candidate’s failing to address POC or anything other than economics and class (“democratic socialist” my ass. Bernie is a Marxist). I have never once seen an ounce of humility in Bernie. Scapegoat after scapegoat.

Now he’s off to sew up a few white states, where yes, the few Dems in those states tend to be further left. Although, what doesn’t get mentioned very much is that Hillary has made significant inroads being considered “liberal”. And the progressive media, such as it is, will start counting states and ignoring delegate count and totally brush aside the fact that AA’s and Latinos don’t trust him. He is making some inroads with Latinos, but I believe Hillary will maintain the edge. There is a great deal of anger over the deportations under the PBO administration, which erodes some of her support. But she’s still a healthy 2-1.

Some sane analysts are saying this morning that the erosion of BS support & favorability started about two weeks ago. He was ahead in MA, but she eaked out that win. I read this morning where they think if NH was held today, he would still win but by a lot less.

If HRC had won MN, it would be game over. She needs to rack up some Midwestern and Eastern states. Apparently, BS has no interest or intention of dealing with the fact that AA’s are not supporting him. So the Democratic primaries continue……..

He’ll endorse her, he’ll give a decent speech at the convention. And then he will go home. He has never in his life supported another candidate, even far left candidates in VT.

One of the points that never gets mentioned: Hillary is crushing it with Dems. Sanders gets the whiny indies, a number of which will still go Dem. And I wonder if these BS supporters are almost all indies. Because there has been a visceral reaction throughout the party that BS has no business going after our infrastructure and still dissing and demonizing the Democratic Party. Do I loathe DWS? Do I think the party has been phenomenally stupid in how it has messaged over the last generation? You bet I do. But I have a serious problem with a candidate and his supporters who just want to trash the party instead of helping it. I have no time for that, and apparently there are many Dems who feel the same.

And any BS supporter who says Trump is their choice over Hillary is a traitor. Then all you are about is destruction and chaos.

From here on in, Sanders ought to lay off the attacks on Hillary Clinton, the Goldman Sachs speeches and all the rest. Eventually, he’s going to lose. She’s going to win. He can do it in a way that burnishes his standing in the party he’s decided to be a member of and that makes him a pivotally powerful senator during a potential Clinton presidency. Or he can do it in a way that damages her reputation and ultimately his own.

But two Clinton wins matter. First, Massachusetts matters some, because it’s New England…one Sanders was really hoping for.

But the big one is Virginia. It’s an indisputably important November state, one that if the Democrat wins, she or he probably will not lose the election…It’s Virginia where the handwriting of where this is headed was splashed on the wall. Sanders had little appeal beyond the college campus.

But it’s time to start pulling back on the food fight. Sanders got into this race thinking: I’m not gonna win, but I’m gonna push this party to the populist-left and put issues on the table that I want to see put on the table. You could tell this way back when he said “enough with the damn emails.” Then he came oh-so-close in Iowa and rolled in New Hampshire, and that’s when he started to think he might actually win this thing

    • 110 57andfemale
      March 2, 2025 at 10:46 am

After NH, Bernie stopped caring about pushing issues leftward and thought the adoration and anger would make him POTUS. He turned dark and petty and instigated the same behavior in his supporters.

And still, you hear nothing about the Obama coalition. Rightly so, the AA vote is a big factor. But in these states where Hillary romps, she wins damn near every demographic, except the young ones. Women, “liberals”, AA, Latino, the “white” vote…..the list goes on.

It’s the Obama coalition. BS supporters hate PBO as much as the GOP. I believe, so does Bernie. Apparently in order to become part of his campaign you have to be an Obama-hater, like Tulsi Gabbard.

PBO knew how to unite a coalition. BS divides us into the worthy and unworthy. I say what I’ve been saying the last few months: Bernie should have been able to win someone like me. It’s the failure of the campaign, the candidate and the supporters that have made me look at Hillary with an open mind.

      • 111 swbluega
        March 2, 2025 at 10:51 am

I fail to understand why Bernie and others think that the Obama coalition is comprised solely/primarily of AA’s. The beauty of this coalition — and one of the reasons for its success — is its diversity.

That is so true. Respect, empower, include means this is not a tribal movement. That’s what they don’t understand because they haven’t evolved themselves. Caring for others, seeing things from their point of view, helping them get their say, wanting to see fairness all around, delighting in the accomplishments of those outside your inner circle, in fact delighting in the fact that you are no longer restricted to an inner circle. These are the joys they cannot know now because they don’t want to give up a power over mindset. While I know they are dangerous, I can also feel sorrow for them. They don’t understand what they are giving up to live a life of hatred, resentment and fear.

Biden thanks Trump for making America confront racism
    6:59 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2025 | Filed in: Politics

WASHINGTON — While presidential hopefuls waited with bated breath for vote tallies on Super Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden thanked GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump for forcing Americans to confront racism.

Biden thanked Trump as a crowd gathered at the Naval Observatory in Washington laughed Tuesday evening during a reception in honor of Black History Month, according to a White House press pool report.

Bernie’s campaign is pretty much over now and it’s just a matter of waiting for that to sink in for him and his followers. Here’s a take from “The Washington Post” on why Democrats in general didn’t go for Bernie in large numbers-we’re just not that angry and we love our President. Any one running on the Dem side who chose to run against PBO was doomed from the start. The article says this explains the low D turnout in the primaries. I think that a Trump candidacy is going to galvanize Dems for the general and turnout, especially if we all work at it, will not be a problem in November.

“we’re just not that angry and we love our President.”. Absolutely perfect.

I think the low turnout is NOT a predictor of Dem turnout in the GE.

Yesterday I observed during Sanders’ speech in VT that he looked noticeably tired, [even older], drained and his voice was hoarse. If a few months of primary elections are affecting him in this way, how will he fare in the brutal general election, let alone 4 years of the Presidency (if he wins)? People talk about how much PBO has aged over the last 7 yrs, but during the Dem primaries, PBO was almost half Sanders’ age, and looked vibrant and fired up that entire election period!

        March 2, 2025 at 10:35 am

bernie has talked about this quite forcefully and how there’s no place for the “berniebro” problem in his campaign. he’s been very respectful in debates and has certainly been much more active in controlling this than hillary was with PUMAs in 2008. many supporters have been terrible, but i feel bernie himself has been getting a bad rap for this stuff, at least in obamabot circles, of which i’m a proud member of course!

        • 139 swbluega
          March 2, 2025 at 10:45 am

Bernie may publicly denounce this behavior, but there is a reason there is a “berniebro” problem. Whether some supporters take the language in his speech too literally, or whether there is encouragement by campaign staff…whatever the case, Bernie should evaluate these extreme and chronic situations. They don’t reflect well on him or his campaign and deflect from the message he may be trying to communicate.

          • 140 4morefor44
            March 2, 2025 at 10:59 am

again, he’s already done far more than hillary ever did in 2008 to try and squash it, and it’s all so ironic when comparing her follower problem in 2008 to bernie’s today. let’s see if bernie keeps stoking this division until june, which is what hillary did in 2008, and i don’t think the democratic part ever fully healed from her action in 2008:

Didn’t get past the rant, 4morefor44, but that was pretty ugly. There appears to have been some internal issues there and I agree that there are Bernie supporters who may say or do things that don’t reflect him or his message. I have to hope that once a nominee has been chosen, both Bernie and Hillary will do what is needed to bring their supporters together and soothe ruffled feathers for the good of the party and of the country.

              • 142 4morefor44
                March 2, 2025 at 11:17 am

i hope so too. so far, bernie’s actions and words suggest will do precisely that (unlike hillary in 2008, but bygones i guess…), and so many of the berniebros will turn on him and not vote, or go to trump, and we’ll be done with this problem.

As a fellow Obama supporter, I think its really a good time to think back on the effect the President had on those listening. Though he has been vilified as responsible for the hatred and resentment engendered by his election (instead of course of looking inside to see the true cause), his true effect on those who try to follow and emulate him is respect, empower, include. If Sanders has not had that same effect then he has not spoken in the same way. I believe in the respect, empower, include model. If Hillary embraces it, then she should be supported. Bernie obviously, to me at least, has not. If fact for him it seems that speaks of capitulation. Thing is if he didnt talk like that the berniebros would not have attached themselves to him.

          March 2, 2025 at 8:32 pm

agreed 4morefor44. Personally I see no difference between what is happening with Bernie’s group and what happened with the PUMAs. none. and half the stuff Bernie is being blamed for is not a big deal.

This cycle will play itself out and then it will be what it will be. Either dem candidate will beat the republican nominee.

Great because it is true. Also with the SCOTUS obstruction its a case in point. Now this can become the unifying meme and that will motivate everyone that has felt this to the core. Also the work done to empower, and include underrepresented constiutencies will now make a difference. When I heard Univision was starting to work on registering voters it made my heart sing. Women, POC, immigrant groups, Native Americans, scientists, anyone of faith that is not corrupt in their spirit, it will be something to see as they organize to find their collective voice.

Super Tuesday moves Trump much closer to GOP nomination
    03/02/16 08:00 AM
    By Steve Benen

Super Tuesday expectations for Donald Trump were high, but there was no reason to assume he was necessarily going to dominate. After all, the last week has been less than kind to the Republican frontrunner.

    ………………………………………

But as the dust settles on Super Tuesday, there can be no doubt that Donald Trump is the odds-on favorite to win the Republican Party’s presidential nomination. If the frontrunner’s easy wins in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada were the set-up, yesterday was the punch-line.
Trump scored seven victories Tuesday in Massachusetts, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, and in Vermont, where NBC News declared him the apparent winner.
And in terms of delegates, Trump added to his advantage and, according to NBC News’ tally, now leads the field with 292 delegates, followed by Ted Cruz’s 188, and Marco Rubio’s 98.
