Still on a high from listening to Jon Favreau! If you need a bit of hilarity this afternoon take a look at this. It’s hilarious - maybe Ben Carson is my favorite - but it’s hard to pick. Also the final ‘songs’. And the whole thing makes about as much sense as the actual debate did.
Congratulations Chips! (?), africatimes2, and Marlz!
I found this article and I thought it was a very thoughtful and fact-filled explanation of specific things that Sanders has said and done. It also avoids an anti-Sanders hysterical tone (I’m kind of hysterical about him myself, but I think the calmer tone is more persuasive). I’ve bookmarked it to use as pushback, and to spar with Sanders supporters.
“But Senator, we have a problem, and it’s a big one. When it comes to the specifics surrounding the core issue of your campaign, you have too often come across as either disingenuous or strangely removed from current reality.
The red flags have become too frequent to ignore.”
This paragraph echoes my own skepticism and disappointment with the Professional Left:
“Meanwhile, anyone hoping to back up your claims will almost certainly be directed to your surrogate Robert Reich-whose website currently sports thirty-nine “above fold” links to purchase books targeted at leftist consumers. Your campaign is built on questioning the motives of the people who aren’t trying to sell your supporters anything, Senator, while simultaneously directing them toward someone who is.”
And this one was just funny:
“I realize that you’re giving people easy answers to complicated problems because they respond to that better than wonky lectures about shadow banking. I am fully aware that three quarters of all readers checked out of this piece somewhere around the Tobin tax.”
Head of Sanders campaign in IL flat out said to the Chicago tribune that they don’t care about down ticket races. All they care about is a vote for Sanders.
I kid you not. Who in their right mind thinks he can lead this country?!?
Although stupid, that almost clinches it for me. Maybe in the beginning BS thought he wouldn’t make it out of the barn. Then, as he picked up steam, he had surprised himself again. Now, he sees the writing on the wall, knows the nominee with be Hillary, and just wants to push his platform to the convention - so some of his ideas can’t be dismissed outright.
NO OTHER REASON ON EARTH he or his people would say they don’t care about down-ticket races. Well, I guess there could be, but I’m trying to convince myself this is the reason.
No, this is a Sanders ideology. He has never cared about down ticket races, even for progressives in VT. His entire career he has done nothing for other candidates. I’m wondering if he has a personality disorder, seriously. He has no interest in relationships, partnerships, coalitions. His progressive ideas are great, but he didn’t invent them. Income inequality, money corrupting politics. All progressives believe that. I’m seriously wondering if there is something wrong with him
There was an in depth article from a reporter in VT who has covered Sanders his entire career. After becoming mayor of Burlington, he was asked to help another Progressive party candidate and Bernie said, “that’s not my thing.”. He has done nothing for any other candidate, ever. While Hillary raises money and campaigns for others, Bernie does nothing. He should be disqualified as a Dem. He cannot and will not be a leader to strengthen government in this country. He loves chaos in place of political infrastructure. He is unfit for POTUS in a complex system. This was my first red flag about him.
my thoughts on DWS and her primary race challenger:
can’t Democrats learn from what is going on with the gop?
yes, the DNC chairperson, DWS, has been a disappointment to many but I got the signal long ago that PBO is not planning on replacing her any time soon.
Yes, there is anger at achievements, but at this time in the election cycle, does trying to unseat her in congress, the best use of our time and energy?
this means she has to spend even more time defending her seat instead of concentrating on preparing the Dem party for Nov;
have we not also learned something from the gop, about trying to have a purely ideological party and how that can grow into a monster that swallows the who party and breeds chaos?
are we loosing sight of who it is we should focus on, namely the gop and the promise of extreme damage they will do to the progress we have made?
priorities, priorities, priorities, => who is your most unacceptable “political enemy”, DWS or the GOP?
my analogy:
Dems have a heavily loaded gun vile, bigoted, xenophobic pointed at them and is very focused on it target.
but a few Dems feel that the best use of their time and energy is to kick and eliminate one of their own who has performed below their expectations in this epic ideological and political battle.
when is all said and done, will the efforts and venom directed at the DNC chair during her race be better than using that energy and time to
register new dem-leaning voters?
when is all said and done, will the efforts and venom directed at the DNC chair during her race be better than using that energy and time to
register new dem-leaning voters?
“does trying to unseat her in congress, the best use of our time and energy? ”
Am not convinced that wanting DWS removed has anything to do with venom toward her as a person or that she is perceived as the “political enemy”. I also have not heard or read of any one who compared her to the GOP.
The crux of the matter is that DWS has not just performed below expectations, her record (from an objective perspective) has shown she has accomplished nothing positive in her overall tenure as the DNC chair. In fact her decisions have hindered the efforts of the DNC and made no effort to reverse course even when it is brought to her attention.
Don’t see how an effort to have her replaced at this time will have any impact on the elections. Given this is the election cycle, now is as good a time as any to push for a change.
Though I hear you, I must agree with GlobalCitizenLinda. I don’t know if it is the far left or the “progressive” wing of the Democrats that are pushing her out. Whatever her sins and flaws, calling for her removal now will be a distraction when all efforts should be to GOTV and give the democrats a reason to show their faces in the primaries as well as in the general elections.
perhaps am wrong but I don’t believe you and I are talking about the same thing.
I am talking about her having a primary challenge as a congress person and you see to be talking about her position as DNC chairperson.
you may have missed it earlier but there was information provided on this blog that claimed that a “big union” was going to announce support for the person who is running to unseat her in congress and this is what I am reacting to with my comment.
I suspect that only PBO, as head of the Dem party, can ask her to relinquish her position as DNC chairperson and he has chosen not to do that.
so even if she looses her seat in congress she will still be the head of the DNC until PBO says otherwise and I will wait to see how that goes
The live blog for today just went up about 15 minutes ago at 538. It will get updated continually as results come in. On the Repub side, looks like Cruz is doing well so far (ick! but then, they are all icky on that side):
this hands thing makes me shake my head…folks were aghast :O at this analogy…but the GOP /press have called the President’s manhood into question many times by saying that he is “weak”, that he should “man-up”..that he’s “in over his head”…and challenging PBO with GOTCHA questions..
I know, huh? I am starting to think that Cruz might be the best scenario for us Dems. If he were to end up with the nomination, the Trump supporters would not fall in line and would do a write in or third party thing. Cruz is so creepy. All of them are scary on that side, but Cruz has the absolute least charisma and can’t pretend to be moderate like Kasich. He may be our best bet. Trump would get out a lot of “anti” voters for the Dem side. But he resembles a combination of Berlusconi and Hitler, and I’d rather not even take a chance on him.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Lindsay “If someone killed Mr. Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody would convict you.” Graham is apparently ready to hold his nose to stop DT in the primaries:
“Ted Cruz is not my favorite by any means,” Mr. Graham told CBS News late Tuesday, as Mr. Trump was on course to win seven states. But he added, “We may be in a position where we have to rally around Ted Cruz as the only way to stop Donald Trump.”
My guess is he (and quite a few others) would either not vote or do some kind of write-in, once Trump was eliminated and Cruz was the nominee. They’ve had it pretty good with a Dem President, after all, not having to do their jobs for the last several years.
I went to the link - Trump & Cruz are attacking Hispanics and Muslims - these are brave young people (not sure, however why they would be at a GOP caucus??)
Difficult to understand why Dudette - but maybe they are. The current GOP is not a party for anyone except rich white guys - shame people don’t vote to point this out.
Apparently Jimmy Carter said that he thinks Trump is less dangerous than Cruz. “”I think I would choose Trump,” the liberal former president said to the House of Lords, when asked about the U.S. presidential race, “which may surprise some of you, but the reason is Trump has proven already that he’s completely malleable. I don’t think he has any fixed opinions that he would really go to the White House and fight for.”
By contrast, Mr. Carter said, “Ted Cruz is not malleable. He has far right-wing policies, in my opinion, that would be pursued aggressively if and when he would become president.””
It’s been good to see CPAC not getting much media this year - other than mentions of Trump not attending. Slightly weird that the GOP are turning to Cruz as the #anyonebuttrump given most in the congressional party dislike him.
Usually CPAC, as I recall, gets more coverage during the big finales and such. But I think they had Trump scheduled to speak at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, so ??? Of course, he refused because it was not his “style” of rabble rousing. Ugh.
First, American Research Group is not a highly-rated pollster. In fact, they rank toward the bottom of our pollster ratings. Much to their credit, they’ll sometimes post results that are way different from the pack, so you can’t accuse them of herding. But their results are interesting more often than they’re accurate.
Second, ARG has (for whatever reason) a large, pro-Kasich “house effect.” On average, their polls have been about 6 percentage points more favorable to Kasich than other polls conducted of the same states at about the same time.
Kansas Dem caucus allows absentee ballots. Sanders campaign made a conscious choice to not go after absentee, because they wanted people in the room. Hillary went after them. Sanders supporters are whining because 1. They favor seniors and disabled, and 2. It’s voter fraud.
By far the biggest lie coming from the GOP is the “economic disaster” that the new President will face. It will be good to have the real story told by those who respect the truth once the primaries are gone.
Wanted to share our SF #DoYourJob SCOTUS event with everyone. Hope the images load
We had a “Wet and Wonderful” event in front of SF City Hall @ noon. From as far north as Sonoma County to as far south as Concord about 45 damp and determined volunteers converged to thank our Senators Boxer and Feinstein for doing their jobs and DEMANDING that GOP Senators do theirs.
The key to this event was having all the NorthBay Chapters work together. It brought us closer as leaders and made the work load so much easier. Thanks to all my compatriots - here is a list of the Chapters who contributed to the event
Carmen Gonzales Murray - East Bay Chapter
Kyoko Takayama - East Bay Central
Renee Zeimer - Contra Costa County
Belle Colle - Marin County
Linda Hemenway - Sonoma County
A big shout out to OFA Western Region Digital Media Lead, Lisa Edwards ACA Lead, and Kook Huber Fellows Manager for Contra Costa.
We shared in the tasks of getting speakers, securing a permit, contacting the press, recruitment phone banking, making confirmation calls, creating an agenda and setting up for the event. It was so much fun to do it this way I hope we can use this as a template for future events.
The event was kicked off by Carmen Murray, Chapter Lead from OFA East Bay. She got us “fired up and ready to go”.
Next came Karen Beck from MoveOn who co-sponsored the event. It is so important that we work with partner organizations to increase our outreach amplify our voice, it was great to have folks from Move On at the event.
Our second speaker was Lucy Riley a Nurse at Sutter Hospital who stressed the importance of a Supreme Court that will protect Women’s Health. She had a strong southern accent and a stronger sense of purpose. Her “no nonsense” comments made it clear that we were going to hold the Senate’s feet to the fire and not give up until we prevail.
Next Came David Schmidt - from the California Clean $$ campaign. We were inspired by his determination to level the playing field when it comes to $$ in politics. Appointing a Supreme Court Justice that could overturn Citizens United would be an important step forward.
Christine Pelosi (Nancy’s amazing daughter) was our last speaker. I was so excited to see someone I have retweeted often and admired from afar. As you can see from the photo below, she also brought our beloved RGB to the party to inspire us. Christine focused on the importance of the Supreme Court appointment to many issues we care about. She thanked us for our dedication, and pledged to explore ways we could partner with the many Women’s groups she works with. As Chair of the California Democratic Party Women’s Caucus, Christine is uniquely poised to help us form alliances with Women’s groups in the Bay Area.
Christine mentioned that there will be a major push to exert pressure on GOP Senators during the Easter recess in late March, I know all our teams will be gearing up to either have an event in SF or help teams in red states keep the pressure on.
I will leave you with my favorite sign of the day. As we all know the American people have chosen, this sign speaks for me.
PBO was so willing to work with congress to benefit all Americans - yet the republicans (& too many democrats) considered it impossible to work with the black guy - because white privilege. No other reason.
Nov 2008 - all the pundits saying this is wonderful - racism is over - about 2 days later they started the racist attacks - continued ever since.
I still think that his initial intent was just to make sure his pet issues became a part of the campaign…he didn’t think that it would get this far. But the attention, the crowds seem to have gone to his head. He’s attracting people by raising the issues (in some cases mis-stating the issues) and giving the impression that he is not a part of the problem (25 years in Congress and he is not a part of the problem?). But his solutions to the problems…are the feasible? When will supporters start realizing where he is overpromising?
Trump is a con man that took US jobs overseas, fleeced people out of lots of money, made tax payers cover his failed businesses, is rich man buying the election and dividing the country with hate and bigotry.
Sanders been part of the DC Congressional establishment that has done nothing consequential to change his pet peeve for the twenty plus years in office he has complained about the inequality of earnings. He is appealing to the voters talking of free stuff and making it sound feasible by exaggerating numbers and the simplicity of doing it.
An error has occurred; the feed is probably down. Try again later.

True on multiple levels! :-)

Forward….

OK - I give up -what code do I use to insert an image?
You can’t insert inages on WP unless it’s a URL (link from the web that ends with an image file extension like .jpg, .png or others)
… otherwise you can embed them in a tweet.
Thanks Dudette - that was what I was trying but I will try without the quotation marks.
could be a Trump rally..
some people watching the 2016 from overseas must be confused about the events and trends that are making the headlines
Look at the supporters…Bernie is still pulling all white voters
PBO was so willing to work with congress to benefit all Americans - yet the republicans (& too many democrats) considered it impossible to work with the black guy - because white privilege. No other reason.
Nov 2008 - all the pundits saying this is wonderful - racism is over - about 2 days later they started the racist attacks - continued ever since.
And some still say the US is the world’s best democracy. This is akin to demanding literacy tests and the like. This is the white right to rule.
I’m starting to wonder about this myself…
He’s running for the senate as an independent - this is no democrat.
Rather like Trump in his reasons for running - neither have done anything of note for their country.
Given what PBO could not do because - GOP congress - it has to be white privilege that so many think Bernie could do anything with his agenda.
