Chat Away

White House: “On Veterans Day, we acknowledge, humbly, that we can never serve our veterans in quite the same that they served us. But we can try. We can practice kindness. We can pay it forward. We can volunteer. We can serve. We can respect one another. We can always get each other’s backs.” —President Obama honoring America’s veterans #HonorAVet 🇺🇸

Thanks especially, since I am so without any real motivation tonight, I think I just sat here and responded to everybody’s posts on the previous thread, including possibly my own. Maybe I’ll go take over twitter now.

I remember DT Jr saying once it was a step down for his Dad to consider the Presidency. If he did not want to live in the WH he should have considered that before running as well as the time Jr told Gov Kasich he could run foreign and domestic policies during the term while his Dad would make America Great. Now I am thinking he just likes the limelight that he got while campaigning. I also heard he wants to keep doing the rallies.

It’s a petition to ask President Obama to appoint Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, bypassing the Senate since they have ceded their obligation to advise and consent.

I have cancelled my subscription to the NYT but if you’re going to stay with a msm publication, I’d suggest the WP. They opposed Trump throughout, and while there are some articles I’m not happy with I see no attempt to limit the reporters/columnists who want to continue to go after him. This is an excellent piece:

“There is a chorus of voices saying that those in the streets already protesting a Trump presidency have acted too soon. Trump has won, they say, and therefore has earned a reprieve.

    No, he has not.

    ….

We can hope for the best for a Trump presidency, though that hope looks increasingly foolish by the hour. We must plan for the worst. There are two months to go before the tremendous powers of the presidency and the law enforcement powers of the federal government are handed to Trump for at least four years. Americans have voted, and we must accept the outcome. Indeed, if Trump offers specific policies to help working families and provide good jobs, liberals should work with him. But now is the time for those who oppose him to organize, to support groups protecting all Americans’ rights and well-being and to stand with the millions who do not share his anti-constitutional values and in particular the many who will lose health care or even their legal protections under his presidency. Next year may be too late. It is a risk we cannot take.

    ””

If Trump turns out to be a surprisingly not-terrible president, I will be relieved. But if he deports thousands of “dreamers,” strips away health care that millions now depend on and launches attacks on a free press and freedom of assembly — all things he has said again and again he will do — I will not be standing somewhere saying, “Well, I was giving him a chance!” Tuesday was Election Day. Now is the time to fight back.”

This is the kind of press coverage we need so think about supporting them. They have the resources to do what smaller organizations cannot do once Trump is inaugurated and continues to blatantly lie.

    • November 11, 2016 at 11:13 pm

I thought the Washington Post did a good job too. And I completely agree, we have to start now. Another article I read said that the media are totally unprepared to cover a Trump presidency, based on the fact that he lied continuously and egregiously during the campaign and was never called out. I have experience dealing with a compulsive liar and it is hard to bear in mind that they will lie all the time for no reason at all.

            November 12, 2016 at 9:41 am

Better than most is no recommendation – most were 100% appalling, WAPO – 99% ghastly – All political media supported Trump by allowing his lies to pass as truth, or as a joke & attacking Hillary non stop because emails.

In any normal election being a serial adulterer and having 5 children by 3 wives would cause a major fail, add to that his views on women and being a serial abuser – major major fail – no tax returns – locks the media up in pens – they all say thank you thank you – do be out President. I give no pass to ANY in the media.

            • November 12, 2016 at 11:04 am

Kurt Eichenwald was ask over him 100% of the time and broke some big stories which, of course, other media did not pick up. Also David Fahrenholt (I think that name is right, not sure, was excellent too.

I wouldn’t put it past the incoming Admin to purge all of the official tweet accounts summarizing President Obama’s achievements since he was in office. I’m hoping when a tweet is copied here that it is like a screen-cap. I agree with above, you can’t normalize what Trump stands for, so I’ll do what I can now to spread and support news to make sure my silence is not taken as supporting their hate. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

The President’s tweets and all other correspondence are part of the official record of his presidency and will be archived.

    hope no one is waiting to see how the hypocrites who constantly criticized PBO’s travel plans are going to do the same for the demagogue who wants to spend his life in the fake gold surroundings rather than at the WH;

privately, we speculated on how he would handle himself when he realizes that he must live in government housing and that his every moment & movement will be controlled by others.

“We see here that our opponents will not always adhere to their own principles, especially if abandoning them means taking us down. But even in the face of their shattered integrity, we are still commanded to keep ours. And, the prayer: Dear God, let my integrity not be dependent on someone else’s. Let it come from within and be unshakable.

    Hello TODers
I haven’t been posting because I have nothing sane to say – other than how much we have loved the last 8 years with PBO

I try & avoid the news – but very difficult. The media seems to be treating the President elect as a normal sane person – beyond understanding. Even reading this thread I am stunned that a President would live anywhere except the white house. Maybe he can rent it out at a profit to one of his minions. I;m sure Christie would like to live there.

Blessings to you all. Stay safe out there – and may the world stay safe amid such horror.

And to add – all the rubbish the dems are talking about how to go forwaqrd – 2008 the GOP lost everything, everywhere & all they did was plan to stop PBO any which way what way. Democrats should be doing EXACTLY this. Stop analysing – start pulling together to bring down this government.

Get the MEDIA talking – remember all the anti health care stories – all the plans that PBO had being attacked by the media (closing Guantanamo Bay, tax reform, the debt level etc etc) – why is this NOT happening with the yellow ignoramus. This is what dems need to be doing. When I read in our press that the children of this pig of a man are sorting out the transition – I weep for your country.

PBO may go high – I would go lower than low when dealing with the undesirables and their non stop lies.

    • November 12, 2016 at 8:36 am

Thanks so much for being here. We are all bereft for so very many reasons.

On top of the horror of what is to come in the WH and our government, I am in great fear of what will happen to our party. Sanders and his power group are trying to take over and shape the next decade with their brand of politics, even though they are not even Democrats and some in Congress are falling for it. It makes me sick to think of how much worse it can get.

It remains to be seen how our RW GOP-fed media will respond to the next 4 years. You can bet it won’t be to air the challenges of the Democrats. The entire front row of the WH Press Corps will be right at home. That is, if Trump decides to continue with daily press briefings and who he selects as Press Sec.

      My heart is completely broken.

      • 48 99ts
        November 12, 2016 at 8:48 am

Hello Meta – I think what keeps TOD together is that whatever we feel the President must feel it 10 fold – and he has to deal with this misfit of a person for the next 2 months. Everything the Press attacked the President about – the pig does much worse & the media accepts. He locked them up in a cage & will now do what I always wanted PBO to do – close down the WHPC. No way Yellow face will go to their party events each year – no way. Media in my world is treating this as a sane event – so truly frightening. Our PM is talking with the Rump – how can you talk sensibly with a man who only knows 1 syllable words?

Sorry to be so negative – if it helps at all, I know how much more difficult it is for TODers to face this reality than for someone on the other side of the globe. I can read your broken heart – one day it will mend – the fool’s death will come & like that of Margaret Thatcher, there will be much rejoicing in the land.

        Morning all.

After watching CNN last night where they had a couple of Democrats, one a Muslim woman who voted for Trump (because she wants a discourse on Islam etc – by the got. Sorry it’s always harder to remember stuff the next day) and the other a BLM chair for NY basically saying HRC didn’t earn black votes, not progressive enough etc.

Lots of Democrats voted for Trump Or purposely sat it out. An inside job. Nice job progressives. Burn your own home down while scorching the earth. Help President Putin’s Puppet share presidential briefings with his Russian master.
All this talk about bringing the country together etc. “He’s my President”… blah blah blah is bull. It is my hope that the dems in Congress and Senate will each grow a pair and be obstructionists. However knowing them they’ll be the first ones to capitulate.

I dont understand why the media would discuss leaked emails. These were stolen. If both sides were stolen and leaked at least I think there is some ‘balance’ … but when it’s just one side how is that fair? I kept hoping for that 400 lb (DT’s quote) hacker to release RNC emails or from the Trump campaign.

Enough of my rant. Off to attend to chores.

GE 99ts, thanks for checking in.

I simply cannot listen to the “news” or even click on websites except for Twitter and here.

US media has been increasingly insufferable and nothing has changed now. Everything seems to be about them, and when they take time not to focus on themselves, they report gossip/speculation/leaks.

This reliance on speculation led to MSM poll-craziness — and I think the constant “reporting” on polls allowed many people to think “what the Hell, HRC is gonna win, so screw her and everybody else.”

The mindset that leaks are news led to MSM incessant “reporting” on HRC emails and Comey.

I truly think the outcome would have been different if our MSM weren’t driven by the triad of gossip/speculation/leaks.

Best assessment I’ve seen so far, from a sympathetic Scotsman who has worked in the US, and is a wonderful writer (think his father is a novelist):

Here’s a sampling from the essay (which is not a lengthy one):

There’s a saying somewhere that the people will eventually elect officials as dumb as they are.

We’re being shown that it CAN be worse than Bush.

Someone just put up a tweet on election day that a older, but new voter said that Trump was the first person who said things they could understand.

We are letting the ignorant set the bar for our country. And those who might stop it don’t seem to see why they should.

At least, not until they are hit squarely in the face with the impending policies of Trump and the GOP. Apparently that’s what it will take.

Comments islong but worth the read

    Comment from disqusAndstuff from:

    http://www.thepeoplesview.net/main/2016/11/11/heres-proof-that-white-purity-progressives-literally-elected-donald-trump

i would recommend you thinking deeply before just “joining” any protest at this phase. Primary reason is protest actually feeds Trump. The Bernie Sanders et al are failed examples of politics, and, Trump lapped it up. One of DJT biggest rally calls came day after Chicago riot in a airplane hanger in Ohio. The revolutionary protest politics of Sanders/”left” actually feeds the _reactionary politics_ and nationalistic trumpeting of Trump.
read that again: revolutionary politics of protest feeds the ‘reactionary politics’ (of nationalistic Trump). and right now, authoritarian/reactionary model is on the rise globally. Hardcore “left” like Occupy and Sanders don’t listen. They never listen and never learn and they are horrible at organizing. we need to ELECT people not protest for the sake of protest.
Seriously. Bernie Sanders is the failed New Left circa 1968-1972. And what did he do then? He ran and hid in the hills of VT. White flight-Sanders is what he should be called. And now he’s trying to lead kids into the streets just like he did during the primaries…all useful idiots and cannon fodder? Not at all. I suspect people will catch on sooner than later. And Trump won’t be in “power” until 1/20/17. Think about what 2mo of planning can get put together. One very specific plan executed to elect someone even if it’s just to elect block captains? Canvass a neighborhood? Recruit and organize block parties, get city council on board…? Communication and organization with even the local police, social programs like teen centers and churches., list goes on.
One more point and that’s the issue of thinking deeply about the long game. And not just jumping out into any old protest. Many protests have been co-opted by frauds and quacks and hustlers willing to use you like fodder. So I wish the best luck. And ask you to think deeply about the concepts of organization over activism.
Clearly one of the biggest goals is to win House and Senate in 2018.
The bs Sanders/protest politics pulled to “teach” Obama a “lesson” during the midterm 2010 was absolutely the same kind of asininity put into play during GE16 as original post above points out. so best luck. And Anyone trying to call for violence, riot, assault etc, walk away. and never make contact again unless they’ve reprogrammed, seriously…
Do not give Trump the kind of leverage he loves to feed off. Trump-bullies will mock bait and try to lure you. They want you to throw punches become emotional, angry. all manipulators get you agitated for the sole purpose of controlling you either by getting you to march on their behalf or to fight or flight. Remember, Bernie was part of the failed new left –white flight. fight/flight. got to be bigger than our lizard brain. right? but Sanders has never learned or he’s a con artist hustling people. I think he’s narcissistic, and, a personality disorder to avoid… but I digress.
Be safe, be smart, be prepared and make a list of trustworthy friends who are willing to organize, organize, organize. It’s like the early 1990s when the anti-abortion people were empowered and started attacking women. But unlike Bill Clinton enact laws to protect clinics from being attacked (1994), Trump will blame victims. Gov Pence is one of the most right-wing evangelical anti-choice reactionaries out there. they are sexist, they are racist, they are homophobic and they are willing to use extreme force to defend their insecure masculinity. and “their women” will defend their abuses. Peace

    • November 12, 2016 at 11:23 am

Agree, it’s the same with people cal calling Democrats ‘weak kneed’, ‘spineless’ now. And people are criticizing President Obama, Sec. Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, et al for acceptance speeches. And they fail to see that in their speeches they all said, one way or another, we won’t cooperate with anything against our values and harmful to people. I have never understood the passionate Obama supporters who cannot trust him for more than five minutes at a time.

TODers, sorry to say that I have been virtually dysfunctional since last Tuesday and I’m trying hard to emerge from a sadness so deep it’s threatening to overwhelm me. Our beloved president, Barack Obama, will be the last democratically elected leader of the free world. From now on we will be a third rate power, beholden to Russia and known throughout the world as a country whose election system can be tampered with by our enemies. Because Republicans will move swiftly to undermine Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, the lives of tens of millions of people will be on the line in the coming years. There is no question that we’re entering the darkest time in American history and I see no relief in sight. But keep this thought close to your heart–when the California votes are all counted, Americans will have legitimately voted Hillary Clinton as their president. Because we don’t have a true democracy, we are going to live within a fascist regime run,in name only, by a monster, but actually managed by the psychopaths on his team and Vladimir Putin. Right now I’m looking for a path forward. Hope I see one soon.

GM JackieG, hope you’re feeling better, but it is pretty much impossible to sleep deeply for anyone with any memory at all of what a COMPLETE disaster GWB/Cheney/Rumsfeld was to this country and the world. And while GWB is an affable idiot, a man with some decency and caring, DJT and his DistortReality team of “advisors” are an absolute horror, in the true sense of that word.

I am so devastated for those like you, who did real, and exhausting work to elect HRC. With this unthinkable result.

I want the media to focus on how this happen, because Trump and the Republicans, Jim Comey, and Russia and the media stole this election for Trump. I do not excuse those who didn’t vote, those who wasted their vote in voting for Stein and Johnston. They are to blame also, because they knew Trump was a racists, sexists, sexual predator, lying, thin skin bully, but it didn’t matter.

Anyone who followed what happened during the GWB/Cheney/Rumsfeld years knows the disaster that can happen when the VP and defense contractors such as Blackwater are in charge of the government.

If you want to see how racism, anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim sentiments are now part of mainstream America, check out @mattdpearce’s Twitter timeline this morning.

This is spot on, and not something most national MSM are willing to openly admit (instead they specialize on gossip/speculation/leaks — see my comment to 99ts upthread).

    Good morning TOD.
    Good morning Nerdy.
Good morning Chips…wherever you are. We miss you!

I stopped reading TOD at about 11:00 pm k 11/8 and literally my first time back. Considering if i should punish myself in going back to read the comments a d decided to start from Veterans day. I have not watched any news, no Facebook, twitter, blogs…nothing! I literally had diarrhea when my daughter called me (bawling not crying) that Hillary conceded. I am just now trying to come out of this ‘dumbness’ that i have been feeling. How can american be so dumb. I will never look at the white house with the respect i always do.

To get over this…which i am sure most of us cant, we have to mobilize. I have already made contact with our reps office and the lady stated that they have been getting many calls for some type of action. Already five of my cowokers have signed up.

    He will have no peace.

TOD, TOD. Please, please can you NOT keep putting the face of evil up here. I scroll to read your comments, and am constantly insulted by the horror every few lines. I come here for information but may not be able to continue because it is purely revolting. This is supposed to be about PBO and related issues, some which of course are unsavory, but I can deal with the issues as long as I am not made to puke every few inches or so. As for now, my media is back to Randi Rhodes on YT. Yes, she voted for BS, but threw her full support behind HRC, and she always digs deep for the facts. Sometimes gets it wrong, but rarely. I suggest you all check her out. Leave the KKK media to themselves. They will never change. Money is their god. If we don’t fight hard, we will die. Oh and don’t forget to boycott the sponsors feeding these garbage pits. Straight up.

I could be wrong but I doubt that any of this really mattered that much to these voters.

these were justifications that many used to enable them to proudly vote for a demagogue rather than a qualified woman

Re the media. I finally got focused enough to send all three networks a stinging comment yesterday. Still need to do PBS and NPR. Also my local stations. I’ve been watching some local news in the evenings, but not like I used to. Don’t even turn on the TV. Not that I think it will make a grain of sand difference, but I felt like I was doing SOMETHING.

I echo every single thing others have said. Thank God for Chips ad NW. We would never get through this otherwise. Love all of you.

I’ve been watching Hill Street Blues, British detective shows on Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Netflix. I don’t want to take the chance of seeing that man’s face by accident, even for a second. I also get a channel called Decades and this week they’ve been doing a current old detective show every day. Yesterday it’s 77 Sunset Strip! I am getting my news from blogs i trust and people on Twitter I trust. Right now that’s all I can stand.

This is why we need to focus on LOCAL races.

Hey Meta and TOD. This is why Democrats need to vote in midterm races also. Not voting in midterm elections is a huge problem. That is how we ended up with a republican controlled congress. We turned out in huge numbers for President Obama and abandoned him in 2010 to leave him with a dysfunctional congress for most of his years in the White House.

I was thinking the t party organized thru social media mostly and emails.
I was wondering if the left can put a name on a powerful protest group against trump and the right?
Bc the tea party just took over our country and they all voted.
    🤔
