Amanda Macias: Here’s What It’s Like When President Obama Gets Mad

In 2007 after a fundraiser in Florida, Love accidentally misplaced then-Senator Obama’s Tumi briefcase containing his keys, wallet, credit cards, and notes he needed for his coming debate in South Carolina. “The plane was airborne, the bag was missing, and I proceeded to have a full-blown panic attack,” Love writes. “Sweat began to bleed through my clothes. My heart raced like a cornered rabbit. In my head I prayed he wouldn’t notice, that I’d have time to find the bag and by some miracle get it back to him before he realized it had vanished.” Love was able to contact a campaign finance assistant who then notified a Secret Service agent about the missing bag. The team was able to recover the Tumi briefcase and send it with a campaign member who was also en route to watch the debate in Columbia. “When we landed in Columbia, I was feeling a modicum of relief, believing maybe disaster had been averted, maybe this would all resolve without any drama, and it was precisely at that moment that the candidate turned to me and said, ‘Hey Reg, where’s my bag?’

I went with, ‘It’s on its way.’ ‘ What do you mean ‘on the way? ‘ he asked. ‘It’s coming from Florida,’ I said. ‘You left my briefcase in Florida,’ he stated, incredulous.” Love describes what seemed to be the worst part about upsetting Obama, the silence. “The silence, felt worse than being reprimanded,” Love writes. “As we rode to the Columbia campaign headquarters without another word passing between us I thought, That’s it, I’m fired. I kept hoping he would break the tension and yell at me.” Once they arrived at the campaign office, Obama asked for a private room so that he could have a meeting with Love. With a calm and “even and firm” voice, Obama began: “Listen, Reggie, I think you’re a great guy. But, (Obama paused and leaned forward) if you’re not up to doing this job, I can get someone else to do it. You have one job and if I have to worry about all this stuff, then you’re not making it easy for me to do my job. “Get your act together, Reggie. Help me do my job,” he said as he rose from the table and walked out of the room.

And then she told me faulty wording in the upcoming referendum on same sex marriage in Ireland threatened to make “marriage between heterosexual couples unconstitutional”, so she wondered if her marriage to my late Dad would be declared null and void :-) She’s had a heckuva day.

      Clinton’s visit to the UN was supposed to be all about empowering women, 20 years after the former first lady’s speech in Beijing about women’s rights. No one other than those really passionate about gender equality will remember a word she said on that subject on Tuesday.

      That’s why it so odd that for someone so devoted to the issue, she chose to make her first comments on the email controversy, in essence her first new conference, at the UN.

      There was much criticism of her choice of location, with reporters complaining she was doing everything to make the news conference inaccessible.

      In the end, the scrum of journalists was a sight unseen at the UN in years, not since the days preceding the Iraq war, according to UN officials.

      While politics often come up during UN news conferences, as foreign ministers or presidents address questions with a home audience in mind, that stage has never been given to someone with no official role representing a country.

      The request to use the stake out was made through the US mission at the UN which suggests the Obama administration was keen to lend a helping hand. After all, Obama too exchanged emails with Clinton.

    The politics of the senators’ letter is understandable, preventing another achievement by the hated president, but here is the danger: By telling Iran that the agreement is not enforceable and will be freely violated by the United States, they assure the Iranians that they are equally free to ignore the agreement when they wish. No one can be sure if the Iranians are truthful or lying when they say they intend to use nuclear power only for electricity and medicine (Iran’s supreme leader says nuclear weapons violate Islamic law), but you can be sure if they scrap or flout the agreement they will recite Cotton’s letter, signed by just short of a majority of the U.S. Senate, as condoning Cotton’s letter lectures the Iranians on U.S. constitutional law, explaining that only two-thirds of the U.S. Senate can ratify a treaty and make it enforceable. The Iranian foreign minister, a U.S. graduate, knew more about the U.S. Constitution and international law than Cotton. The Senate does not ratify treaties. It gives its advice and consent to the president, who then decides whether to formally ratify a treaty.       Every Iranian I’ve met in college and otherwise has been rather reasonable and respectful. The GOP are trying to demonize these people and act like condescending dick wads. I read the letter as: “Me.” point crudely at my own chest, “Chief” then I point at mountains, “Me from far far away.”

      That’s the way the GOP came across to the people of Iran.

    I just read that the announcement about where the location of the President library has been postpone till after the Mayoral runoff in April 7th. It was suppose to be announced the end of March.

    I just emailed the president as I said in a previous post that I would. I tried before, but it was “down for maintenance”…..I figured MANY people were emailing, but at midnight Eastern time I made it. I told him we loved and respected him, and admired him for putting up with all the stupid, and keeping on doing the work of the people. Then I mentioned that it was not just me who was disgusted with these 47, but people all over the country are disgusted and angry, and we’re hoping something can be done to bring them to account and make them know what they have done.

    Yesterday I wrote both of my bright red, stupid Senators……I was not respectful. I have no respect for either one, the James twins from OK.
    Now I’m going to write Gov. Fallin and suggest she make a statement about the OU racial atrocity, she’s said nothing.

      I’m with you Carolyn on my Senators. I suggested to Cruz and Cornyn if they were unable to abide by the Constitution, Supreme Court precedent and practice from the founding of this republic with respect to foreign policy they resign their positions and find another country where their views may be more palatable.
