This hashtag gives me so much life, tears, and joy. What a wonderful man and leader we have in President Barack Obama. There truly is no one and will never be anyone like him.

Donald J. Trump said that maybe Obama would have attended Scalia’s funeral if it was held in a Mosque.

    • 16 bridgeriverpass
      February 20, 2025 at 5:11 pm

      Is the media ignoring:
That the Scalia family suggested it would be best for PBO for many reasons to attend the event yesterday (rather than the funeral).
Only 4 out of the last 7 funerals for a Supreme Court Justice have been attended by President or Vice-President.

So my older brother the Republican phoned and he sounds like he’ll never be a Republican again. We talked for over an hour about politics, something we don’t do very often. But he did vote for PBO twice (thanks, W!!) and now he’s sickened by Trump and Cruz. He’s embarrassed for our nation that someone like Trump even has a shot at the presidency calling him vile and disgusting. I think he’ll be voting DEM again this year. WOOT!!

    • 27 globalcitizenlinda
      February 20, 2025 at 5:32 pm

      counting this one for Team Dem;

from now until Nov and beyond: your mission Meta, should you choose to accept it, is to handle him with the greatest care that you usually show us here. you know best what to do … so many of us know so many people whose lives will be negatively affected by a gop win

      • 28 meta
        February 20, 2025 at 5:35 pm

Thanks, gcl. I think he’s already there. He’s really just looking at the whole GOP mess in horror and thinking about his grandchildren. What kind of world does he want them to inherit? He really just kept going on and on and on about how the GOP is so offensive to him. I was a bit surprised at the strength of his disdain but very happy that he’s been so influenced by PBO and the good work he’s done.

    • 29 susanne
      February 20, 2025 at 5:36 pm

Good news, Meta! And I like to think your brother is part of a trend, not just brought on by the embarrassing antics of the GOP candidates, but by the fact that PBO has gently, calmly, inexorably educated Americans about the issues. Sure, there are still going to be some pond-scum types who still vote the George Wallace ticket, but people with some smarts have to see the reality of what it actually takes to be a president. I have a nephew that has posted a lot of Trump smut on FB, but lately, there’s been nothing… I like to think it’s a sea-change.

        February 20, 2025 at 5:41 pm

Yes, susanne, I think that is what is happening. My brother served this country, is a kind and decent man who raised his two sons with strong values. I think he is reckoning with his own politics over time and has come to see and realize that times have changed in a very BIG and important way. I’ll never forget the day he pulled me aside in a different room to tell me he was voting for Senator Obama!!!! He was also very proud that I went to Denver to volunteer at the DNC nominating convention. What a whirlwind!

WTF! Well, if you want to know something about a person’s character, look at those with whom he surrounds himself. PBO demanded that we have civility at all times no matter the provocation (which was very hard to do at times), while Sanders refuses to rein in these hooligans and thugs. PBO, on the other hand, asked Samantha Powers who he likes and respect, to stand down from her position on the campaign when she made a public disparaging comment about Hillary in 2008.

      • 38 swbluega
        February 20, 2025 at 6:23 pm

Bernie’s campaign is giving a lot of “WTF” moments…and this is while they appear to have been confident that they would win…what happens when they feel less confident and more desperate?

A big victory for Hillary in the face of voter fraud, outspent, and GOP pushing for Sanders. This happened today. There is something fundamentally toxic in the Sanders campaign. Toxic and racist.

    • 56 Bill R.
      February 20, 2025 at 5:33 pm

Some will say you can’t paint the whole campaign by this brush. But there was a Bernie campaign precinct manager leading this hateful display. And there will be no apology from Bernie or any of his underlings.

      • 57 swbluega
        February 20, 2025 at 5:40 pm

Bernie can only apologize so many times before it’s considered going through the motions and insincere.

        February 20, 2025 at 5:51 pm

I think it’s that “no apology” bit that finally sunk in, with me. We’ve just had (still more time to go, thankfully) eight years of leadership from the most dignified President we’ll probably see in a long while, and there’s simply no comparison between the two. Lead or get off the pot (something like that), Bernie.

      • 61 57andfemale
        February 20, 2025 at 7:39 pm

The supporters reflect the candidate. Either BS has no ability to lead, or he condones this behavior. I am constantly astounded at his pettiness. Ends justify the means. Great moral hero my ass

      February 20, 2025 at 5:35 pm

Toxic and racist, indeed, Bill. All the forces were aligned against HRC in this race and she pulled it out for a win. Good for her and good for all of us.

      • 63 catrst
        February 20, 2025 at 5:55 pm

This may encompass the greatest story no one is telling. Perhaps Barack Obama will usher in a reverse southern strategy with Republicans of good will realizing that things have changed and if they seek an inclusive, good governance approach with dignity for their fellow men and women they are now Democrats. I think it might be happening. One time we were tabling for the President at the county fair in 2012 and an acquaintance walked up and asked what its like to be a Democrat. He was a Republican. That was before Trump. We sat with him and told him as much as we could about what we admire in the President’s approach. I had an email notification list he joined and I sent him many positive articles about progress and inclusiveness. Who knows how many will decide this election cycle that they are no longer a part of the new John Birch society (GOP).

      • 64 57andfemale
        February 20, 2025 at 7:47 pm

Primaries should be closed. Lots of evidence that BS campaign was urging GOP to register as Dems for the day. If it has been a close caucus, numbers would have been higher.

Have been cleaning my 100 yr old attic for a couple of weeks, keeping my mind outta politics as much as possible… and what do I find up there but an article about the GOP from 1941. Can’t get away from this stuff! :)

Pretty Foot, maybe you can help me with some info on this (want to ask Donna Dem too, next time she’s around) or any other TODers who may have ideas:

I have a dear and longtime friend who is interested in mentoring teenage girls. I was wondering do you know of a similar organization to My Brother’s Keeper for women and girls? My friend loves PBO, is a corporate executive, a wonderful yoga teacher and she has raised two boys that are now doing well in college. She would make a fantastic mentor. If any of you who are active in mentoring know of any organizations I can steer her to, let me know. She lives in the Bay area but is also in SoCal often.

They will. I think turnout is low because most voters are not as engaged as we are and just assume it will be HRC. They aren’t as fired up about her, so they’re not bothering in the Primaries. But, come November, after POTUS, FLOTUS, VP, and Bill are out in force doing what they do best to fire the voters up, and especially facing whoever wins the clown car race on the other side, Dem voters (and a few sane used-to-be-Repubs, I imagine) will come out for her when it counts.
