Hello wonderful Meta! Congratulations on First! I’ve been behind for so many days and skipping back through to pick up where I left off, that I was stunned to end up early in the door. Rare in my life to be early.

Not only must we hold our elected officials feet to the fire, but the media as well.

Hi, 99. I think her role was senior adviser. This is chief strategist or something like that, way different – at least by title.

Wonder how Bibi feels now, not bothering to get along with President Obama, finding out a white supremacist, anti-Semite will be Trump’s chief strategist. I will be praying for Israel, as well, going forward.

Hard to know, perhaps more powerful. They were described as a “do” team, Priebus as Chief of staff and Bannon as Chief Strategist. But Bannon was listed first, so who knows. I suspect this is going to be like the Manafort Lewandowski competition.

Consumers need to let the media know this truth — STOP REFERING to alt-right, it’s a white supremacist term, not a Merriam-Webster dictionary phrase for English language usage. It hides the truth, legitimizes and mainstreams and endorses this unacceptable behavior.

See THIS folks? Especially the last sentence in this excerpt.

// “During their private White House meeting on Thursday, Mr. Obama walked his successor through the duties of running the country, and Mr. Trump seemed surprised by the scope, said people familiar with the meeting. Trump aides were described by those people as unaware that the entire presidential staff working in the West Wing had to be replaced at the end of Mr. Obama’s term.

After meeting with Mr. Trump, the only person to be elected president without having held a government or military position, Mr. Obama realized the Republican needs more guidance. He plans to spend more time with his successor than presidents typically do, people familiar with the matter said.” //

*But*, Bill R, is this moron “school-able”? Personally I didn’t see any evidence he was during the almost 2 years he was running, and IMO Pres O will simply be wasting his time. After all PBO has done to serve these 8 years, I’d think it’d be painful for him to have to spend his last months in close proximity to this bigoted moron and his excuse for ‘staff’. Seems like harsh punishment to me to have your space invaded by this idiot more than required in past exchanges!

He is willing to help the man who spent almost 6 years demonizing him, fomenting hate and violence against him. No, we are not worthy of this man, President Obama, sent by God and blessed by God. ****Also, from any of you. He even brought up Barack Obama’s background and how there’s “nothing” available about his college years. OMG!!!!! Let me add that he did not vote for Trump! Sure he didn’t vote for HC. Guessing he didn’t vote for Pres. He mentioned especially his time at Harvard. I told him how many videos and pictures and articles I’ve seen and read that are from his time there. I need/WANT to be able to provide him with ABSOLUTE PROOF!!!!!!

      GE TMG.

      Here’s a 1-minute video sent on the anniversary of the #IranDeal, July 14, 2016:

You can check out @TheIranDeal twitter account for info (they haven’t tweeted since the 1-year anniversary in July).

PBO’s “collegiate records” is one of the many code words/phrases that get RWNJs and RWmedia in a lather. Like #Benghazi — it’s something that unleashes RWNJ’s lizard brain of blind fury.

RWNJ media is convinced that PBO was admitted to Columbia as a “foreign transfer student.” That’s why they refer to his college years — has nothing to do with grades or accomplishments at either Ivy League school. It’s a RWNJ dog whistle that screams #Birtherism! #IllegitimatePresident, etc.

      • November 13, 2016 at 9:27 pm

Yep. It’s been years since my husband has watched FOX and before that, he didn’t watch often. It’s what he reads online and NOT the far-right. As you know, these talking points are on the MSM sites-att.net, msn.com, Yahoo news, etc. the GOP owns and directs 98% of our news. Y’all, this gets more terrifying by the minute.

Thanks for help. Keep it coming….anyone.

          November 13, 2016 at 9:41 pm

You’re right that doubts are sown by the MSM.

Could never figure out why RWers kept referring back to PBO’s college records, but stumbled on a link to a blog post on the origins of #birtherism from @joshtpm’s twitter timeline, back when DJT accused HRC of beginning the birther nonsense.

Josh Marshall was in some sort of twitter feud with a guy who was (IIRC, think he’s moved onto some Ivy League school [Princeton, I think]) an editor at McClatchey who swore up and down that HRC began this toxic rumor.

          • November 13, 2016 at 9:48 pm

I don’t tweet. Wanted to stay away from it, BUT I’m re-thinking that. Have a good friend here who has wanted to teach me so think I’m going to take the dive. It will be after Thanksgiving though.

              November 13, 2016 at 10:31 pm

Completely understandable, seems like a lot of people here aren’t on Twitter.

Even if you’re not a Twitter user, you can view a person’s Twitter timeline by entering (using Daniel Dale of the Toronto Star as an example here):

A pop-up box will appear asking you to log in, but once you click on the screen or scroll down, the box goes away.

Individual tweets appear with the person’s photo of choice (Twitter avatar) — professional users often use a photo of themselves as @ddale8 does, but twitter users can upload any photo of choice for their avatar. If you don’t upload a photo to Twitter, your avatar is the Twitter default, an egg).

To the right of the photo (Twitter avatar) is the user’s name (created by the user – you can enter your legal name, or anything you want), then the user’s Twitter name (also called Twitter handle, and in this example is @ddale8), then a timestamp.

You can open a tweet by clicking on the timestamp (in the example below, the timestamp for these tweets appears as 4h, meaning 4 hours ago).

Here’s an example of an “egg” avatar:

Sounds more complicated than it is, once you get used to it. (I am completed Tech challenged, so if I can use Twitter, think just about anyone can.)

  25. 92 FoxfireTX
    November 13, 2016 at 9:05 pm

OK folks. Given the Bannon announcement today, this is going to get a lot worse than we contemplated and it was bad already. I have a couple of suggestions for our daily life.

    1. Become extremely aware of your surroundings when in public, and for those who can do so with little risk (some of us white folks, particularly the older ones) be ready to step in if you see trouble.

    2. Have the tools at the ready that you need, and BE READY TO USE THEM! Most of us have video on our smart phones but I have never used mine. In addition, I knew I could do two things at a time, i.e., call 911 and video, but wasn’t sure how. I learned this afternoon.

    3. I also intend to pick up something, debating between deer urine for hunters, or pepper spray, to have in a readily accessible location.

    4. Keep in mind, most of these harassers are absolute cowards. I am adamantly opposed to guns of any type, but in a state like TX if is assumed everyone has a gun and a hand in a purse or pocket can create a semblance of force.

Sad that it has come to this but I’ll be damned if I’m going to let this happen without fighting.

    Comment from this story:

    JS • 6 hours ago
I keep hearing how we need to understand white, rural, working class voters. I understand them perfectly. I grew up AMONG them. Let me tell you something about white rural America. I grew up in a town of 500 people in rural MN. There was no economic anxiety. Not only did nearly EVERY adult have a job, they had a good job, and a job they had basically no chance of ever losing. You couldn’t possibly grow up in a more stable financial situation. If the farmers had a bad year of food prices, it didn’t matter. The government would subsidize their entire harvest and take it off their hands. Every damn person had enough extra cash lying around to go to the bar (where my mother worked) 4 or 5 nights a week and drop HUNDREDS of dollars on pull-tabs. Everyone had brand new pick-ups and good, nice houses. Not most people, practically EVERYONE. The economic hardship meme is total BS.

Now let me tell you how things were from a social issue aspect. My best friend’s dad used the “n” word so often in casual conversation we almost didn’t even notice it anymore. Every single kid who’s parents owned a farm talked the same way. About black people, about women. The people who own these farms were more than happy to ILLEGALLY used the labor of Mexican migrant workers to pick the rocks out of their fields, and then have the unmitigated gall to complain about illegal immigration. If you listened to anything but country music, you were a “f*g”. If you wore anything but Wranglers and t-shirts, the same word would be thrown at you. We didn’t have a black person in our entire school, K-12, until my younger cousin (who is mixed-race) moved to town. She had to transfer to a different school in a larger nearby city to finish her last 3 years of high school because of how she was treated. There is no curiosity, there is no knowledge of what is going on in the world outside of the local cafe. There is no interest in finding out. These people do not have tough lives. They are not downtrodden. Their children are almost 100% safe, and will want for nothing in regards to their dreams of the future. On a large-scale level, there IS no rampant economic anxiety in these places. What there is is a overwhelming fear and hatred of things they know nothing about.

GM DF, missed your post last night. 😦

MSM twitter feeds since last Tuesday is mostly about themselves, about “missing” DJT voter support.

Sounds to me like DJT support in US heartland is based on DJT’s #GuidingPrinciple, which is to screw the other guy. Farmers are comfortable because they reap US government subsidies if crops fail, but damn it, if anyone else’s life improves because of the federal government, the President is a #failure.

      More economic anxiety here:

    Time for some Church TOD!

A friend just sent it to me. It’s today’s sermon from our local liberal Episcopalian church, All Saints.  Even if you are not the least bit religious, I urge you to watch and listen to this beautiful, inspiring and powerful speech and share it widely:

“We do not stop proclaiming […] the True Gospel of the Christ who was born as a dark-skinned refugee and died for love with his hands up – because he challenged the authority of a police state.”

“Those among us who have nothing real to fear must stop issuing calls for unity and respect that are really just calls for traumatized people to sit down and shut up.”

“We need to feel the grief of the mother who has no idea how to explain to her eight-year-old little girl why her country chose a man who brags about objectifying, abusing, and violating women over a woman who told her daughter to never doubt that she is valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve her own dreams.”

    It’s only 17:29 min long:

Thanks so much Madame Soph! I liked what Paster Kinman had to say very much so they seem to be in good hands. I went to All Saints earlier this year to one of their Jazz Vespers concerts that was phenomenol and uplifitng upon the invitation of a friend. It was the last one that was held by/for Ed; kind of send off of sorts; very bittersweet and I wondered who they would get to fill the giant shoes from his pending departure.

Many ministers today dealt with this awful election. Mine did. I don’t know how to bring the video over. I was driving home from Dallas today wishing I was in church to hear our minister, but this evening, went to Facebook and members have already posted it for the world to see. I watched. He was unbelievable. First he said Jesus tells us to do many things, and one thing is to pray for our enemies. He said, I don’t like that command, but we need to do so. And, he prayed for Donald Trump in one of the most powerful prayers I’ve ever heard. He hit every mean thing about DT in the most beautiful and meaningful way, not cutting him any slack. His sermon dealt with the results of the election, and how we are feeling, and what we can do. If you are interested go to http://www.mayflowerucc.org. Then go up top to the f for facebook and the video is there. It is on vimeo, so that may be an easier way. He was quite concrete about what has happened, and in what we can do. He says we must trust, but resist. He gives specific ideas on what we can do, and at the end of the sermon he said: “In the words of my favorite president, “Yes We Can.”

I saw the pictures, church was packed for two services. We are a progressive congregation, who were all just distraught at this election. We needed comfort and encouragement from our pastor, Dr. Robin Meyers. Our church is Congregational/United Church of Christ. Our pastor was the first in Oklahoma City to push for marriage equality, we are the first church in OKC to get solar panels…….our members gave the money for them…..It is a privilege to attend this church.

If someone can tell me how, I will try to post it.

      GM Carolyn.

Love the way your pastor concluded your service yesterday: “In the words of my favorite president, ‘Yes We Can.’”

Blessings to you, your pastor and your congregation. Don’t know how to post Vimeo videos here, but thanks for bringing to our attention.

    Good evening TODers

I have been numb since this election. I have cried. I have worried. This not the America I came to on May 20, 1980.

I have not known what is going on in the world since Tuesday, because I refused to look. I did not want to see the Birther’s face. I did not want to see his back. Did not want to hear anything he had, has to say. I will never look at him, ever again. I can’t.

My only comfort these last days have been listening to President Obama’s speeches. I have not loved him more.

And then I came here tonight and saw this post.

    Thank you, Nerdy.

It made me realize that retreating is not the best thing to do now.

Thanks to everyone here for the wisdom you impart each day.

I am glad I can come here to find peace.

    God Speed.

Dear Kate, this is going to be hard. The impulse to fully retreat from this abomination is normal. It’s going to take time to regain our composure enough to face this nightmare without falling apart. So I recommend you do as much as you can to fully honor the grief you feel and that we all feel. You are not, never ever, alone in this. Do what you can to stay whole, each and every day.

When you’re ready and able, I want to ask that you and all of us get back in because we need to fight this horror with all our might. Each day we learn of how quickly our democracy can and will deteriorate because we have a monster in the White House and he has his willing supplicants to join him there and in both houses of Congress. The Supreme Court is about to be compromised for decades. And it’s clear we no longer have a free press to keep him in check. So there is a whole different level of urgency to what we are facing. We must be strong whenever we can. We must form a strong resistance to this fascism we face. This is a very, very serious assault on our democracy.

Behold the man elected by people who deeply believe that being a man, and having a white skin, makes you SUPERIOR to women and people of color. To be honest, I am disgusted with the current state of U.S. Journalism. Surely, an alert journalist would have asked Trump two follow-up questions: 1. If he,Trump, “would rather see the popular vote determine the president,” would he be willing to step down and let Hillary Clinton be president, since she won the popular vote; 2. Does Trump know that if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns “Roe v. Wade,” the Court’s decision would apply to all the 50 states?

Had to take Mr 99 for day surgery this am (way to early!). While waiting I foolishly picked up a newspaper – haven’t looked at one since before Nov 8. Murdoch paper – full of warming thoughts and bilious lies about the orange ahole. I threw it across the room while noting if anyone around was a Trump supporter they would find some glowing words to read. No-one took up my offer.

I hope every paper in the western world goes broke – for what they have done they deserve nothing.

    Dumb ass

  37. November 13, 2016 at 10:24 pm

Woke up this morning with this on my heart:

    Y’all Surrendered to the Confederacy

42 years ago, TODAY, I stood in a windowless room, in a building at Broad and Cherry Streets, Philadelphia, as a United States Marine Recruit, raised my right hand and pledged an oath “To support and defend the United States of America, against all enemies, foreign and domestic…” You, dear trump voter are the latter…

History will reflect 151 years and 6 months, a mere 55,336 days, after the south was defeated in the Civil War, faux patriots across the land entered voting booths and surrendered America to the confederacy. This was done knowingly. The majority of white voters, male and female, prioritized privilege over continuing to strive to form “A More Perfect Union.”

Save the faux outrage for being called out. This was NOT the dog-whistle campaign of Lee Atwater and the boys, that propelled Reagan to the Presidency. No, the scab was ripped off the festering sore in this nation, gasoline was poured and trump struck the match, running a full on, in your face, kkk-endorsed, campaign of white supremacy. You can’t say that you didn’t know…

When he demonized Mexicans, you were okay with that…

And Muslims; and African Americans; and POW’s – still trying to wrap my mind around this one; and Women; and the Disabled; and the Military – this from someone that actively avoided military service. He demonized the whole Islamic Faith; and the Seventh Day Adventist faith; and Asians… Did I miss anybody? YOU.WERE.OKAY.WITH.ALL.OF.THIS.

Don’t quote for me the percentage of African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, etc. that voted for trump – there have always been self-loathing, “I’m not like them,” saboteurs in our midst. One thing that all marginalized people know: “All of my skin/interest folk, ain’t my kin folk.”

I intentionally didn’t mention our pathetic 4th Estate. Murrow, Cronkite, Bradley are all spinning like tops in their graves.

Having surrendered to the confederacy, you, my Stars and Stripes waving, red, white, and blue bunting decorating, patriotic t-shirt wearing, faux patriotic friend have forfeited two privileges that you hold dear; the privilege of declaring yourself a “real American” and that of proudly flying Old Glory.

Although the United States of America will continue to be the Land of the Free for another 68 days, after that, things change. You voted in the confederacy, so OWN IT! Retire the Stars and Stripes, and proudly hoist the Stars and Bars. We know who you are; you need no longer to hide behind the faux patriotism of old. The Stars and Bars are an adequate temporary place holder for your soon-to-be-designed national ensign.

Funny thing happened while you were drunk on the euphoria of establishing the new Confederate States of America: putin and the boys confirmed that they have been in engaged with the trump campaign from the beginning. trump openly courted the russians, called on them to hack the opposition, had russophiles embedded in his campaign; BUT.YOU.WERE.OKAY.WITH.ALL.OF.THAT.

Looks like trump may very well be the Manchurian candidate.

You were warned. You were warned by the derided liberals. You were warned by the Germanys. You were warned by the Jews. YOU.WERE.WARNED.

At noon, January 20, 2017 instead of ushering in the new Confederate States of America, we may very well see the dawn of the Confederate States of Russia.

42 years ago, today, I raised my right hand and pledge an oath “To support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America…” That oath has no expiration date. I.WILL.CONTINUE.TO.SUPPORT. I.WILL.CONTINUE.TO.DEFEND. I.WILL.CONTINUE.TO.FIGHT.

This will not be good for PBO in the end, Trump will try to turn it to hsi advantage. But PBO knows that and will do it because he cares more for his country.

BTW, don’t know if anyone else caught this, but somewhere Trump was patting himself on the back “for going to the WH more quickly than anyone else” as if he set up the meeting with PBO. PBO IS THE PRESIDENT and he issued the invitation but of course the FOOL does not possess an oz of graciousness, and has to try to do the one upmanship game. I posted on FB today that when he was tweeting about the NYT he is like a nine year old except that is an insult to nine year olds.

The predictable thing about Trump is his ego and his vanity. He must always be seen as being in control and popular. Doubtless our egoless Pres Obama knows this and uses it to play him.

I believe this is the only way for President Obama to act and remain true to the statesman qualities he possesses. He’s a born statesman. He won’t regret it, either, in my opinion. Never have seen a man so completely on the right personal track in life as President Obama. I know he has “flaws” like the rest of us, but they’re not nearly as obvious. (Where the hell are the flaws, is what I really ask myself!!!!)

My last post for the day. This is the first day since the election I’ve made it through without crying but I am close. It’s like we’re living in some alternative universe that we will wake from shortly How can things have changed in such a short amount of time? But they have. As I said earlier today, he will “Hooverize” the Justice Department and use it to go after his enemies. While presidents have been extremely careful since the Nixon days to keep their hands off Justice, this is another norm rather than law. What we failed to understand was just how many of “checks and balances” were/are norms rather than laws. It appears they are going to be stretched to the breaking point.

Hope everyone sleeps well, and thanks to everyone for being here to hold each other up.

      The president elect
      – uses twitter to attack people
      – promises retribution to his political enemies
      – has language worse than a 4 year old
      – has no intention of actually working at the job of president
      – is outsourcing his chores to a band of ignorant racist misfits
      – continues to have the greatest conflict of interest by carring on his business while being president

Just imagine the outcry if PBO had done any of these things

The media is still aiding and abetting every step of the way – when they came for the journalists – there was no-one left to care

I remember. I also remember the humiliation they put Tim Geithner through shortly after PBO’s election, and it was Tim Geithner with his “stress test” that saved big banks that were too big too fail… and that saved the economy. I do remember. Geithner had already paid off the $14k that was due but they still held hearing, questioned him to humiliate him and by ricochet, his boss PBO.
