President Barack Obama signs legislation that will provide tax credits to help put veterans back to work during a ceremony at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. From left are, Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., Sen. Patty Murray. D-Wash., first lady Michelle Obama, Dr. Jill Biden, Veterans Affairs Secretary Erik Shinseki and Vice President Joe Biden
Jason Hansman (WH): Today is a historic day for veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. When President Obama signs the VOW to Hire Heroes Act into law, an entire generation of new vets will be provided much-needed practical support to transition from combat to careers. As an Iraq vet I am privileged to lead the membership team at Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the country’s first and largest nonpartisan organization committed to our newest veterans. And I speak for all of us when I thank the lawmakers who worked so hard together, putting aside party, to get this bill passed. We also thank the President for his leadership on the issue - for acting so quickly on this legislation and for bringing national attention to the veterans’ unemployment crisis.

Oh dear, Andrew Breitbart’s buddy haz a sad:
Michael Walsh (National Review): ….. the WaPo’s Chris Cillizza makes the same point I made …. You may think Obama is eminently beatable, but unlike Mitt Romney, he has a solid base that is a dead-certain lock to be there for him next year ….
…. Meanwhile, “electable” Romney stays moored at around a quarter of the GOP primary electorate, and as a “frontrunner” has been happily chucked overboard for every not-Romney flavor of the month, including Bachmann, Perry, Cain, and now Mr. Newt. Head-to-head with Romney next year, Obama will sink him handily.
….. Say-Anything Mitt has no home port and is unlikely to find one beyond the generic anti-Obama vote. Which, alas, will not be big enough or motivated enough to evict Cap’n Barry from the White House bridge …. Indeed, the campaign will begin and end with this photograph:
Sorry, but that’s the truth. Say what you will about Sarah Palin, but she would have brought a super-energized base of productive taxpaying citizens with her that might have competed favorably with the Obamabots. But she broke their hearts - and damaged herself - by teasing and then not running, leaving the GOP bereft of a candidate who could match BHO II’s charisma.
What can be done at this late date, I have no idea. And neither do the Republicans.
****

Jonathan Chait (NY Mag): …. Here is my explanation: Liberals are dissatisfied with Obama because liberals, on the whole, are incapable of feeling satisfied with a Democratic president …. they compare Obama with an imaginary president - either an imaginary Obama or a fantasy version of a past president.
…. His single largest policy accomplishment, the Affordable Care Act, combines two sweeping goals that Democrats have tried and failed to achieve for decades. Likewise, the Recovery Act contained both short-term stimulative measures and increased public investment in infrastructure, green energy, and the like. The Dodd-Frank financial reform, while failing to end the financial industry as we know it, is certainly far from toothless, as measured by the almost fanatical determination of Wall Street and Republicans in Congress to roll it back.
Beneath these headline measures is a second tier of accomplishments carrying considerable historic weight (see article for list)
…. Of the postwar presidents, only Johnson exceeds Obama’s domestic record, and Johnson’s successes must be measured against a crushing defeat in Vietnam. Obama, by contrast, has enjoyed a string of foreign-policy successes ….
So, if Obama is the most successful liberal president since Roosevelt, that would make him a pretty great president, right?

Good morning, Chips. Thanks for keeping us on track.
Morning meta, hope all’s good
Looking forward to a productive day. Very happy POTUS is back in town. Hope your day isn’t as busy as your weekend!! xoxo
Chica, here’s an absolute must see!!! about 6 minutes… “NOT DISAPPOINTED BY PRESIDENT OBAMA” by JAKE LAMAR
Ah, I adore that isonprize, I saw it a while ago but it’s worth watching a million times - thank you SO much for the reminder, you’re a gem!
I love, love this clip. I have always said i have never met a happy liberal
If you viewed EVERYTHING through the eyes of an idealist, you would NEVER be satisfied because you have laid out plans that doesn’t connect to the reality as they are.
‘Idealism increases in direct proportion to the distance from the problem’
Thanks Chips. We have video and sound!
Hi everyone. I just want you to see how we are getting the truth out…here in Florida. Please watch the short video and tweet it out. He has many to use so please feel free to subscribe to his youtube channel and tweet them out there:
Proudmemberofglobalzero~ thank you for sharing that here. Will check out his Youtube channel later on.~
Oh proudmemberofglobalzero, thank you for posting this, just added it to the post - going to check out his YT channel now.
Chips…you are the BEST!!!!!!!!!!! I think we should all meet around New Years eve and toast you. EVERYONE is invited to stay at my house in Florida….BRING YOUR SWIM SUITS!!!! This is not a joke..I really mean it.!!
this is great - gotta look at it when I get home.
I just saw that, Proud! Thank you..I’m going to pass it on to Democrats For Progress. I like Prof Robert Watson calm rational delivery and his sense of history on his Got Truth2 forum!
Good morning Chips and TOD family. Chips, thanks for the heads up. Got here just in time. Today is going to be a good day, I know it.
How cute was that? POTUS teasing FLOTUS about saying Dr. Biden is her favorite person in the room.
And then FLOTUS hugging him and saying you too honey.
They’re so connected and in love.
You have got to get that on video, it was so special and cute, FLOTUS and POTUS.
Thank you, thank you thank. I am getting ready to look at it right now.
By the way FLOTUS looks lovely this morning.
Oh, anniebella, I totally want that dress under my Christmas tree. She looks fabulous in that style and color. With every month that goes by she becomes more and more comfortable with the style she’s developed as a classy first lady. She’s just plain stunning.
Just added!
I missed that. Is that from this morning’s signing speech or something else?
Oh, I see the clip now. Thanks for posting that. A-dor-a-ble!!
“You too honey” lol
Awwww that was the cutest thing. Love them.
WooHoo Flotus!! This WhiteHouse is the BEST ever for Vets, bar none.
Another great interaction between Michelle and Barack. Chips, I know that portion between the 2 is another great clip to add to your collection.
Chips we’ve got to get a clip of POTUS and FLOTUS teasing each other at the start of the liev event. They’re adorable.
Awww…. he called her Miche.
POW! POP! CRASH! BANG! SLAM! That’s the sound of Tweety’s jealous head exploding….
Tweety reminds me of a spurned EX!
Oh I missed it
Well I will wait for the clip.
Tweety is 65yrs old. I was surprised by that, even knowing he was around for awhile. Maybe it was the blonde in his hair that threw me off.
Yes, he is - I’m 65 and I can assure you, most of us aren’t still STUCK IN THE ’60s like Tweety is!
Someone need to tell Tweety that it’s 2011, not 1960. he is like that Peggy Noonan witch, stuck in the Reagen years. But forget them.
Somebody already did. Stephen Colbert asks Chris Matthews…
a) Ask Not what this book PLUG can do for Chris; but, what can Chris can DO for his book?
b) When does Chris allow himself to breathe after the words come out of his mouth?
http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/402494/november-16-2011/chris-matthews
Well, I’m 67 and I’ve got news for him. He’s past it and needs to retire. Go, CM, before you make any more of a fool of yourself.
I’m 67 too and tweety reminds me of an old fuddy duddy. And a spurned one at that. Needs to get over himself.
Thank you Jaqueline O for standing up for us the 65 years and older! We are indeed not stupid enough to be ” STUCK IN THE ’60s.” As much as I loved and admired JFK as a teenager I know he operated in a different era with different problems. Besides, it does no one any good, and especially young people, to promote mythology about JFK in order to cover up your baseless attacks on President Obama, as Chris Matthews does.
hahahahahahah…
i love when you do that!!!!
PBO is like comfort food.
Hearing his voice soothes the soul!
That’s just one of the million reasons why we LOVE our President!
In his hands …
There are those magnificent hands, signing the bill!
Note to self: Down, girl.
Hold on…Chips is looking for that cold shower that she always sends when we get out of hand!
Okay, I’ve calmed down. Isn’t it funny that the camera caught his hands while he switched out the various pens? Does anybody remember them doing that for any previous president? It’s so humorous to me.
It’s actually something that I don’t really notice…..people’s hands…..but I have to say that I noticed the President and first lady’s hands right away…
FIrst lady has gorgeous hands! well arms, face, etc lol…..they both look sooooo good, they are the cutest couple ever.
The Mat Patrol may be upon us!!
He does have great hands, doesn’t he.
What the H is Scott Brown doing there?!?!?
Probably a co-sponsor of the bill.
He’s also an active Reservist.
Interesting, Scott Brown is there. He is really afraid of Elizabeth Warren!
He’s likely been told by McConnell and co he can do whatever he feels he as to do to be re-elected. He’s going to be the most moderate Senator you’ve ever seen in your life for the next year - he’ll be to the left of more than a handful(or more) of current Senate Dems. Warren will really have to focus on Brown’s votes when he was the 60th vote and his votes before she came into the picture in a major way. He’s going to try and fool a lot of people.
Pres Obama should win Massachusetts by over 10 points against Romney (more against any other Republican) and every House Dem should be re-elected as well, so Brown will need a lot of people to split their ballot - to vote for Pres. Obama, their Dem Rep and than vote Republican for Scott Brown. Brown’s seat could realistically decide the majority in the Senate - A vote for Brown is a vote for Senate Majority Leader McConnell (or DeMint).
They should definitely have that in a campaign ad, sr. A vote for Brown is a vote for mcconnell.
Elizabeth Warren have Senator Brown shaking in his boots. He knows he is in for a battle.
Before the 2012 election is over Scotty Brown-nose will be left of Ted Kennedy, he’ll be for abortion, same sex marriage, he’ll denouce everything republican and will be for taxing the rich and the banksters. Hopefully, MA won’t have the wool pulled over their eyes and this time SEND HIM a message.
Joe is so baaaaaaddddddddd, but funny!!!
I of course meant Vice-President Biden.
Ha! He’s our Joe, for sure!
I mean our Vice President Biden.
Did I see Scott Brown there? OMG
that man is sooooooooo desperate
I remember when Scott Brown ran he ran like an Independent and compared himself to JFK. He used his truck as a symbol of his being just like everyone else. I am noticing a candidate here in Oregon Ron Cornilles running to replace David Wuu for Congress is using the same kind of campaign as Scott Brown did. He did not use the label Republican anywhere in his earlier advertising. He extolled Oregon favorite Dem policies. My sister-in-law lives in the district he is running in and is saying things like he is a moderate and thinking he is a good candidate. She has always voted Dem before. I need to work on her further to convince her not to vote for him. This point is to show how the GOP beat the odds by pretending they are not who they are.
You one of the biggest differences between President Obama and these Republicans is that the President is authentic. If you read articles about him when he was Harvard, his books, his tenure in the IL State Senate , the US Senate and now the Presidency, Barack Obama is the REAL DEAL. What you see is what you get. There is no pretense. He’s been steady and on course with his beliefs since college. It’s called having core.
Obama Grandmama~ Where to begin? From what I’ve read, Cornilles doesn’t believe in government bailouts for any reason; asserts that the $14 trillion deficit was created from 2009 to 2011; says that poor people don’t pay their “fair share in income taxes; wants to reform the tax code to eliminate ALL credits, deductions, and loopholes for individuals and corporations. HOWEVER,” At the same time, tax reform can’t be used as code for ”raising taxes.” Oh, and he is in agreement with passing a Balanced Budget Amendment.
http://www.cornillesforcongress.com/issues/tax-simplification/
THIS is the kicker: “Rob Cornilles is running his first campaign for public office and has garnered the attention of the National Republican Congressional Committee, which named him a “Contender” in its Young Guns program that identifies and seeks to elect younger Republican candidates….Cornilles wants lower taxes for families and small businesses in order to spur economic growth. He opposes health care reform legislation that will increase costs, and said he would instead support a program that allows people to shop for health insurance across state lines to drive up competition. He said he wants to use “economic incentives” to encourage people to live healthier.”
http://townhall.com/election-2012/election-2010//state/or/candidate/rob-cornilles/
Anyone know what the rude yeller was saying at the end- and then Joe threw up his hands? And who was that chatting so seriously with the VP.. I know the face, can’t think of the name.. ??
I did not get to see the end….Sherijr…when you find out…please post the answer….
You all are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Watch video above and tweet away PL needs to see it.
It was Scott Brown that was chatting up VP, far as I can tell.. he was quite intense w/ face turning reddish.. he seemed very inappropriate toward VP Biden.. which is why I wondered about him. After reading comments above and then looking up Brown’s photo, It was Brown, being a republican.
That was one of the uncouth jackals yelling at our President Obama - wanting to know what he thought about the super committee throwing it’s hands up. You see it’s not enough that President Obama has to do his job in the EXECUTIVE branch, he is also expected to do the job of the LEGISLATIVE branch. The jackals should be asking the so called super committee why THEY ARE NOT DOING THEIR JOB. But that would be too much to ask. It’s so much easier to blame President Obama for any and everything.
Thank you Ladyhawke.. couldn’t tell what he was saying, but so glad POTUS just ignored him.. and LOVE the VP’s response, ha!
The question was about the super committee throwing up it’s hands.
I am so glad Michelle was unfazed by yesterday’s incident. She is a fearless woman and I LOVE her to death.
What happend????
The boo’ing at NASCAR…
THE THIRTEENTH MEMBER OF THE SO CALLED “SUPER COMMITTEE”
=========================================================
Super Committee Member Sen. Kerry: Grover Norquist Is ‘The 13th Member Of This Committee’
Today, the 12-member congressional super committee is expected to announce failure to reach an agreement to cut $1.5 trillion from the federal budget. One of major “sticking divides,” as Democratic co-chair Sen. Patty Murray (WA) noted, has been Republicans refusal to consider a widely supported tax increase on America’s wealthy.
This intransigence is largely motivated by the shadowy influence of lobbyist Grover Norquist, the head of Americans for Tax Reform, who threatens to serve any Republican who breaks his anti-tax pledge with electoral defeat. Today on CNN, super committee member Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) noted that Norquist’s handcuffs on his GOP colleagues essentially makes him the “13th member of this committee without being there“:
=========================================================
http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2011/11/21/373269/supercommittee-norquist-13th-member/
Please tweet this to everyone you know. Grover Norquist needs to be stopped in his tracks to destroy this country. If he really knew anything about economics, business, finance, the country’s welfare, he’d be lined up behind President Obama trying to make this country and its people as prosperous and positioned to compete for the future. Norquist sees the American people as workhorses to increase the wealth of a select few - he’s basically an enemy to the future well-being of this country. Get the word out.
Agreed theo67. Grover Norquist should be made an ALBATROSS around the neck of the Republican Party.
I really wish every Democrat that gets near a microphone on network or cable tv would hammer home the fact that the Republican Party is allowing itself to be held hostage by the Grover Norquist no taxes pledge. They have relinquished their judgment to a lobbyist. They are not fit to govern. Signing this pledge essentially nullifies their oath of office. There should be only one allegiance and that is to the Constitution. Not some smarmy character named Grover Norquist. His name and association with the Republican Party should become common knowledge to every American for the damage it is doing to the country.
And Jane Hamsher’s best bud
I didn’t want to watch Grover Norquist’s interview on 60 minutes….there’s just something about that guy that is so creepy to me. I’m glad I did though.
I learned something that I didn’t know…….I thought Republicans signed his ”pledge” in the last 3 years…something they ”had to” sign after the election of President Obama…..I had no idea that it’s been going on for years and years!!.
http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7389006n&tag=contentBody;storyMediaBox
I am in the same boat - I watched to get educated on who this man was. And I was so disgusted through the whole thing. He’s such a little self-satisfied weasel, intent on destroying the country and enriching himself and a few friends. What they’re doing is criminal and a clear display of evil. I felt like I’d looked at the face of a demon.
Hey TOD family. Following is a twitter convo I had with an Obama supporter about boycotting the media. I know many of us are doing that today according to tweets I’ve seen. I say we make an example out of Tweety especially. Starting today boycott him and let the station know we’re boycotting.
I could tweet with a hashtag like: #OccupytheMedia #BoycottChrisMatthewws Let me know what you guys think. We could also boycott MSNBC in general. They sure as hell deserve it.
Here’s the twitter convo:
@AWiseLatina Responding to your tweet 11/19 on occupy the media.. we can do something about it. Agree on Twitter not to watch for one day
@LiberalPhenom I think that’s an excellent idea. How do we make it happen? How do we select a date where it will be really noticeable?
replies ↓
@AWiseLatina@LiberalPhenom Follow #ows why not hold a general meeting (GA) and a “Twitcheck” (instead of mic check) decide day..and tweet it. Leaderles
LiberalPhenom LiberalPhenom @AWiseLatina Forgive me for being clueless. I’m not twitter savvy as I should be. I know what mic check is but how would Twitcheck work?

@LiberalPhenom Ex: Alert #occupyTweetcheck Day of Media Blackout. refuse to watch media on:?______________
AWiseLatina @LiberalPhenom U can begin by informing Ur followers that there will be a media black out day. They re-tweet their followers. Step 2 pick day
I sent Chris Mattews email to the spam folder this morning. He does reach the NE older voter. I am older and white as are the people that canvass with me all the time….I don’t know how to make him an enemy without him retaliating more closer to the election.
Are you saying we should not challenge him and correct his lies? Let him continue his crusade against the President? Just asking for clarification.
No I haven been tweeting…emailing him and I post on his blog. I bet he will not be on tonight but someone else will. I expect him to be off all week….it is a holiday week.
YES!! something has to be done. It is appalling.
What a great idea, I love it.
Chris Matthews is a factor but I think for me what really tipped the scale was the complete media blackout of the president’s visit oversea.
UNACCEPTABLE!!
To see the face of Chuck Todd with his porn mustache talking about the Republicans when he was actually there! following the President…..It’s an insult.
Canada networks covered it, Europe, etc….but not in the States?? He’s not only the President of the United States, he is the leader of the free world.
I’m IN that’s for sure……boycott.
I’m going to go ahead and tweet about it. Whoever wants to join in, so be it.
I am with you!
Oh, Christi, your comment about Friar Tuck Toad - “with his porn mustache” - set me up to laugh all day!
I’m IN.

Occupy the Media: I’M IN!!!!!
Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America members were at the signing, and have a nice write-up on their website:

Nice write-ups on the Defense Department website today (various topics), as well:

In the first headline story, they prominently show a photo of the President and his name and title. I used to work for the Navy, and - I’m not kidding - I don’t remember such a prominent banner in the past. That made me smile.
Get a room already.
LOL…TOO FUNNY!
They already have a room.
Actually, they have a House.
I think we need a new “headlines” report -
Politico “Obama’s marriage on the rocks?”
Fox “Michelle Obama and Jill Biden having an affair - with each other??”
lol funny
Me, I don’t read Politico and I don’t listen to FOX.
Really to “HELL” with Fox and Politico.
I wanna play
Fox Alert: Michelle Obama publicly humiliates the President. Hannity will have the details at 9.
By the way…Me thinks Chrissy Poos jealously (and MSNBC) stems from them NOT having an interview with POTUS since he has been president. Other than the NBC News Crowd (Chuck, Savannah) I don’t think PBO or MO has been on any of their shows. While FOX (Barf) has had the Prez twice ( one with Oreily) and one with Michelle (Huckabee)… Sour grapes anyone?
Perfect!
How cute are they??
I love their interaction - they are so cute!
I knew you would have it fast. It was too perfect. You are the best, Chips!!!!!!
I love that color FLOTUS is wearing.
I WATCHED THIS…IT ALWAYS FEELS GOOD TO HAVE PBO HOME…IT’S UNFORTUNATE THAT HE HAS TO COME HOME TO SUCH HORRIFIC SLANDERING FROM CERTAIN PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN NOTHING BUT JUDGEMENTAL AND FEARFUL DARKNESS! GOD BLESS OUR PBO!
Just bringing these over from the earlier thread - both well worth your time (though read Chait’s if you have to choose)

Chips,
Have you seen this article? “When Did Liberals Become So Unreasonable?’ http://nymag.com/news/politics/liberals-jonathan-chait-2011-11/?mid=nymag_press by Jonathan Chait.
Its long. I haven’t read it but my twitter friends were loving it last night. David Frum also wrote an article for NY Mag on how the GOP has lost touch with reality. http://nymag.com/news/politics/conservatives-david-frum-2011-11/?mid=nymag_press
Hiya saintroscoe, just finished reading it! I added a few extracts from it to the post just to alert everyone to it, it’s a really great read. I love the way he highlights the ridiculous revisionism of the purity left, suddenly - for example - Bill Clinton is their liberal icon when they didn’t have much time for him when he was in office. Excellent article.
So far I’ve read Chait’s, which is excellent. Thanks to both gobrooklyn and saintroscoe for bringing them to us. I wrote the following under Chait’s article:
Excellent and interesting article. I was born when Truman was president, so have seen decades of this phenomenon. I have always been and remain an ardent liberal, as well as a pragmatic realist, and have had plenty of opportunity to be driven crazy by the constant whining on the left, however sympathetic I am to the underlying ideals. It does seem worse now, but perhaps that’s because there are so many more outlets, and having to come up with enough words to fill daily columns and hour long “news” shows means people have to come up with a constant string of complaints, since, evidently, solid analysis of policy options doesn’t inspire enough clicks or ratings.
I question the idea that Roosevelt enjoyed good relations with liberals, because I came across a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt saying that his worst problems were with the liberals of the day. I’m planning to live a few more decades, and look forward to the day when the current liberal president is getting the usual treatment, and Barack Obama is in the pantheon with FDR.
You’re right, Betsey. I’m a little bit older than you and I know there have always been lots of naysayers on the democratic side whenever we have a democrat for president. Although he wasn’t technically a Democratic president, Abraham Lincoln had a whole segment of his own party, the Copperheads, stabbing him in the back. Today, the 24 hour news channels and endless cable stations do make it seem worse, as well as the fact that the media is owned by a few right-wing corporations. I know that our president fully understands the news blockade against him and he will in his own time and in his own place, make sure that the American public know what’s going on. We are not in campaign season, yet and he is the master of good timing.
Okay, instead of doing what I’m supposed to be doing this morning I read Frum’s article, too, and highly recommend it.
Aww, how sweet. What a great clip!!! They’ve got me smiling ear to ear again.
Wait a min Chipsticks….Ben Smith of THE POLITICO (you just gotta say THE) Said that photo don’t mean two scoops of nothing. Are you telling me POLITICO was lying? Someone get mez my smelling salt cuz I’m about to faint.
I don’t think that’s a chipmunk…more of a gopher/prairie dog.
(yes I know you didn’t label the vid, just sayin is all)
Thats what I thought too..But hey I can’t argue with the interwebs, its never wrong. LOL
Aww, How cute? I love it.
I’m sure the only questions these clowns are going to ask are going to be about the super committee.
Of course they will blame the President for everything, no blame for the Grover Norquist’s cultists.
Jay will be ready. Hopefully he has the quotes from the beginning where the Republicans told Pres. Obama to stay out of it. He’ll also likely remind the jackals that the Pres has has a few offerings on the debt/deficit issue that the committee could have adopted if they so chose.
Also I especially like that the President is back on the road tomorrow for a visit to keep pushing the AJA. Can’t let this super committee failure once again make the debt/deficit the prevailing issue in Washington.
Heads up everyone, Jay Carney is on at 12:30

I am getting lots of retweets on my tweet to #OccupytheMedia and #BoycottMSNBC. I hope it trends. Please help make it trend by sending your own tweets.
Compare and Contrast… Don’t play it….just needed the pic
Arrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!
What? You no feel the love between those two Chip?
LOL, you’ve just put a really, really horrible image in my mind, I’m tempted to post Newt in his mankini as revenge.
In my 5th grade voice…….Do it…Do it…Do it..Do it…Do it…
The faces of The First Couple show a husband and wife who are regularly “satisfied,” if you know what mean. The Gangrenes…the exact opposite.
“The Gangrenes”
HA HA HA…They look News Action 5′s Weather team.
What’s with her eyes?
Check out this loving couple.

ewwwww…
WOW! Freakshow.
OMG. That is the weirdest photo ever!!
I had to look at it for a full two minutes, just trying to figure out what is wrong with these people. They’re strange. And it’s not just the Halloween costume that’s making them strange, either. Yuck.
Oooohhh My!!!
Can you all believe this woman is a year younger than FLOTUS?
I thought she was in her late 50s/early 60s. Just like Cindy McCain in 2008, who I took to be a well preserved 65 year old, when she was really just in her eary 50s. These GOP wives all have this frozen faced icy stared Children of the Corn look about them. Even the embalmbed corpse of Eva Peron looks more youthful and vibrant than these crusty old broads!
OMG - this is too funny. But, strangely true…
They’re so ridiculously cute!
Completely! Hiya UT
The Schoen-Caddell Two-Step
Doug Schoen and Pat Caddell are the Fox News Democrats and are about as representative of Democrats as a whole as Mickey Kaus. But note one thing about their analysis: it puts the entire blame on Obama for the current fiscal and political impasse and none on the GOP; and its logic would merely reward Republicans for total obstructionism. Money quote
One year ago in these pages, we warned that if President Obama continued down his overly partisan road, the nation would be “guaranteed two years of political gridlock at a time when we can ill afford it.” The result has been exactly as we predicted: stalemate in Washington, fights over the debt ceiling, an inability to tackle the debt and deficit, and paralysis exacerbating market turmoil and economic decline.
Now ask yourself for a minute: who, outside Fox News contributors, genuinely believe that the polarization we are now experiencing is a direct result of president Obama rather than the Republicans? The polling shows the public believes Obama has been readier to compromise. To put the entire blame for polarization on Obama - at a time when the GOP has refused any net revenue increases at all - is insane. Note also this misleading claim:
President Obama is now neck and neck with a generic Republican challenger in the latest Real Clear Politics 2012 General Election Average (43.8%-43.%).

Newt And The Base
Bill Kristol is open to him:
Gingrich may not follow the Bachmann-Perry-Cain trajectory of rapid rise and rapid fall. He is a far more experienced national politician than they. He’s a familiar figure. It’s not as if, like Bachmann, he’s making a favorable first impression that will then be qualified, or, like Perry, that the idea of the candidate will be very different from the reality, or that, like Herman Cain, he seems a breath of fresh air. Voters who have warmed to Gingrich in the last few months could of course still have second thoughts, and his rise may stall and reverse. It would indeed be surprising if he doesn’t now hit some bumps in the road. But he could be formidable.
I can see the point against Romney. But formidable against Obama? Seriously? Obama’s current lead over Gingrich is 8.5 points, landslide territory. Newt must be one of the least likable human beings ever to run for public office. Katrina Trinko looks at his standing among social conservatives. The evangelical problem could be severe:
Land has been doing informal focus groups among Southern Baptists for the past two years on Gingrich’s candidacy, as he expected Gingrich to run and be a serious contender. He found that women are especially wary of Gingrich.
“He’s got a gender problem,” Land says. “His toughest audience is going to be evangelical women. Evangelical men, depending on what Newt does and says, are more likely to give him the benefit of the doubt.” Women, on the other hand, have told Land that they would vote for Gingrich “under no circumstances.” If the general election comes down to Gingrich and Obama, they say, they may just not vote.

I don’t think Newt had the work ethic/energy required to make a serious run. He doesn’t even have staff on the ground in Iowa or anywhere. What I think he will do is parlay this polling popularity into the VP gig. He’ll let Romney run on top of the ticket for the next year, and he’ll be named to the ticket in August 2012.
Problem the Anti-Romney crowd is running into is they’re splitting that vote four ways, though I think Newt could actually peel off some Romney supporters. If Cain or Perry/Bachmann dropped out and endorsed Gingrich it would be a huge threat to Romney but I have a feeling he’s made promises to every single one - either VP shortlist consideration and/or a cabinet/Admin spot. Of course Cain is going nowhere as he’s day dreaming about his inaugeration day and even wrote a book about it. I think Perry could be looking for the exits and if Newt gave him a way to save face by doing so he might just take it. Newt could then take over a lot of the Perry campaign - which has boots on the ground in all early primary states with heavier focus on Iowa, SC and Florida.
Most likely of course if Newt flames out and Romney is the nominee without much of a fight.
No Newt doesn’t have the work ethics. He’d rather stuff his face or fly off to the Greek Isles. Don’t forget his Tiffany escapades.
Here is what Newt’s ex-wife said about this pig’s eating habits:
In 1997, Gingrich was fined $300,000 by the House for ethics violations related to college courses and a non-profit. He and Marianne didn’t have the money, so he began to write a book. But the book didn’t turn out as anyone expected: it was a dramatic apology that Marianne described as “weird.” With his inner circle, she attempted to edit it into something publishable — but they ended up scrapping the manuscript entirely.
After the book petered out in 1997, Marianne said that his behavior began to deteriorate.
After that, Gingrich started to deteriorate. There were times, Marianne says, when he wasn’t functioning. He started yelling at people, which he’d never done before, and he’d get weirdly “overfocused” on getting things done — manic, as if he was running out of time. He took to taking meetings while eating, slurping his food, as if he wasn’t aware or didn’t care how strange it looked. The staff responded with gallows humor: “He’s a sociopath, but he’s our sociopath.”

Nothing about this pig has changed. If anything it’s gotten worse; mainly his lying about a $1.6 million job as a lobbyist for Freddi Mac
Why do the GOP never have a problem with running crazy people for the office? First, those two McCain operatives were going to let Palin get a heartbeat from the Oval Office, and are only now coming out to admit that she was a crazy witch. The GOP had no problem with grifter O’Donnell, who was downright loony. They ran Sharon Angle. There was that woman who wanted to replace health care with chicken bartering. They’ve got sexual assaulters, homophobes, greedy buggers who think corporations are worth more than people - that they actually ARE people! Such a disrespect for the country should prompt people to be offended.
I have always wondered the same. You are dfinitely on to something Theo.
“Bachmann gives students a 101 on issues, then gets lectured
Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) - With the air of a college instructor, Michele Bachmann essentially gave college students a Conservative 101 on the economy, national and foreign affairs and other important issues on Thursday in Iowa. But when the Republican presidential candidate took questions, some students turned the tables on their lecturer, peppering her with tough questions….
But a few students who support President Barack Obama spotted in the crowd before the event began foretold of tense exchanges ahead. At least two of them sat onstage just inches away from Bachmann - one of them wearing a T-shirt with the president’s image….
Arguably the most tense exchange came as Bachmann restated her opposition to “Obamacare.”
As she criticized specifics of the nation’s health care law, one student shouted: “So screw the sick and homeless?”
“Who said that?” Bachmann asked.
“You have,” the student said.
“You could not be further from the truth,” Bachmann shot back. “You’re looking at someone who lived below poverty. Have you ever lived at that?”
Bachmann continued: “I know what I had to do. I got a job. That’s what you need to do. You need to figure out how to get a job and make your way.”

What does getting a job have to do with health care? There are plenty of employed people who didn’t have health care, and many more who lost everything because of medical bills. She’s an idiot. The ACA doesn’t just help poor and unemployed people. It offers protections for every level of society. Before the health care debate, it never occurred to me (coming from Canada) that people stayed in jobs they didn’t like simply so they’d have health care. I didn’t even realize that there were people who lived in the “richest country on earth” and had to raise their children without the security of health care. That was unbelievable to me. It’s offensive to me to have these GOP act like ACA is only for poor people or people who don’t want to work - and that people who support it are just looking for handouts. A civilized country doesn’t treat it’s people that way.
Brilliant idea to Occupy the Media!!!! Let’s do it!!! I’m all in
Analysis indicates that Comcast spends millions of dollars annually on government relationships.[117][118] Regularly Comcast employs the spouses, sons and daughters of influential mayors, councilmen, commissioners, and other officials to assure its continued preferred market allocations.
Comcast=MSNBC
I hope people will finally send a loud message and boycott.
Got in 30 seconds. some idiot just asked why PBO wasn’t as involved with the super committee.
It’s like the debt ceiling fiasco never happened. It’s like they weren’t there to see President Obama offer a grand bargain, get rejected, Cantor complain that the President was being mean to him, GOP demand that President Obama stay out of it, GOP and Dems come up with only $1 trillion, with a promise to find $1.2 trillion more - without President Obama’s involvement, President Obama to secure an insurance policy against their inability to get anything done, and to see President Obama deliver his plan and wish them good luck. It’s a game to them. Tonight, after work, I’ll tweet them some reminder clips to jog their memories.
Morning TODville! Reminder that PS J. Carney is re-schooling the Jackals at wh.gov right now.
G’day VC!
G’day Chips Chica! It’s always so uplifting to see your morning(or afternoon, or even night) smile!
Many, many thanks Meta, Christi, Theo, Jacque O, Sonjia for your retweets! I don’t have the scope to build many followers so your retweets really help me to participate more effectively. Thanks a lot! I’m so happy to be involved for PBO, his team, & the 99% even in this small way.
Good morning TOD friends. I am all for the “Occupy the media” idea. I just logged in a few minutes ago and since my email is with yahoo and I have it set as my home page. The first thing I saw was the nice 1991 video of PBO made for TBS and my heart jumped with joy unti I say the title
“video of Obama goes viral, shows he was not always a natural in front of the camera”. Now we know why they pulled this out; not for something positive but for something negative.
There has to be ONE day of national boycott of the media…..we have to push it, set a date in order to send a strong message.
Such a large country with absolutely no regulations for the media, no rules…..networks own by huge corporations.
They protected and promoted the Tea Party, they are responsible for the rise of the far right.
There’s nothing out there that is honest…nothing…
Rev. Al is only one man and even on his show he has to have the ”regulars” , like Ed Rendell, Michael Steele, Alex Wagner.
Martin Bashir is really good as well but that’s about it…..Fareed Zakaria on CNN.
Republicans control 95% of the airwaves, radio etc…….it is the core of the problem.
Time for action
Tweeting asking for suggestions for date to do this. I’m all in.
You’re a warrior Proud, love ya!
You’re the one, Chips!
That is desperation and pettiness….going way back 20 years ago to dig up a video of the then already impressive 29-year old Obama paying homage to Black History Month, and that’s all they can find to say?
Where are the photos of Mitt Romney in front of the camera at 29?
Because at 64 years old, he’s still stiff and awkward in front of the camera.
Ha ha. Willard is a true dork.
I thank them kindly for revisiting this video, and getting it ‘out there’.
It provides proof of PBO’s involvement with the AA community and of the fruitlessness of Maxine W and Corny W et al’s criticisms.
It provides very clear contrast that Barack Obama can grow, and indeed has grown!
What do they have to compare? Willard in a crass moneyed picture? Why, he is still politicking for the rich! Stiff Willard who after 5 years of campaigning still can’t rise above 30% popular appeal? Newt the condescending, who is still trying to live off the public trough with his books and videos and lies, yet is condemning the 99%? Bright eyes Michele? Three points Perry? These guys are so very ‘natural in front of the camera’! These naysayers are seriously, seriously dense! I think I’ll go look for this video again and enjoy young Mr. Obama’s .history moment’.
“It provides proof of PBO’s involvement with the AA community and of the fruitlessness of Maxine W and Corny W et al’s criticisms. ”
you are right vcprezofan2 - the video tribute to Black History only solidifies POs support in the AA community.
That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. They are trying to say something negative about the most brilliant public speaker in modern time by pulling out a video clip from twenty years ago? Is there anyone who didn’t see the President’s 2004 Democratic Convention speech? Anyone not see the many hundreds of speeches during the campaign? Anyone not see the President doing his job every day for the past nearly three years and hitting it out of the park every single time?
If this is all they’ve got - then they better start getting worried about a landslide.
More pics added
Several things:
- Michelle looks gorgeous! I love the colors in that dress, and it’s her typical eclectic style. Smashing.
- LOVE seeing PBO and Michelle back together — they just look super-content in each other’s presence.
- That article about the never-happy, always-critical liberal is spot on. I’ve always thought teabaggers had a lot in common with firebagging liberals: nobody is ever pure enough for their ideology.
- I WANT ONE OF THOSE PENS! I collect pens and stationery and I am drooling here. I need to find out how I can get one!
PJ, I found a replica of the pen when I was in DC a couple of years ago. I bought several and gave to my family.
I should have known my fellow Obamaphile would be on the case. I’m gonna do some scouting and searching.
I would love to have Chips’ email address from anyone who knows it. Thanks!
Here you go Betsey! Enjoy your day.

Thanks, vc!
Mr. Carney is feisty today: Congress is familiar with the President’s detailed balanced plan. Certainly all the Supercommittee is familiar with the plan. Occasionally members of the media forgets about the plan…
Andrew Breitbart’s buddy haz a sad:
But she broke their hearts – and damaged herself – by teasing and then not running, leaving the GOP bereft of a candidate who could match BHO II’s charisma.
What can be done at this late date, I have no idea. And neither do the Republicans.
Hi wonderful Chips, how can I email you?
Hiya Betsey, you can email me at [email protected]. I took the address down from the sidebar on the front page, my inbox was getting rather full with greetings from Fire/Teabaggers
Hahaha. This article made me chuckle in glee. I tweeted to @AndrewBreitbart to partake of my joy or in his case; his misery.
Ooooooh UT, I enjoyed his misery so much!!!
When you are reduced to thinking that sorry Palin has charisma that could match PBO’s, you have lost your last tenuous hold on reality. For a tiny window of time Sarah projected aged Republican’s idea of sex appeal with her short skirts, high heels and over-exposed cleavage. She’s lost it completely now and it was all she had. She would no more be up to the challenge of running for president than I would be up to becoming an Olympic skating champ (never been skating in my life.

FROM THE TOP — White House press secretary Jay Carney, taking questions to start his briefing on Monday, declines to weigh in on the expected failure of the so-called super committee.
“I will wait for members of that committee to make an announcement as to their success or failure,” Carney says.
Carney adds that “instead of pointing figures and playing the blame game,” Congress should do something. (12:47 p.m.)

Hey chips,
A new CNN poll says that indes favor tax increases on the wealthy more than democrats-
69-57!
That is surprising!
I think that is CNN trying to play games as usual with their stupid polls. I think Indies are almost on par with Democrats on this issue, but they do NOT surpass Democrats.
I think so too! But, you will note, a lot of tea baggers have skewed the inde vote, as they changed their Id to inde.
Newt today:
“Newt Gingrich to “Occupy” protesters: “Go get a job, right after you take a bath.”
Newt on Wednesday:
“Hopefully, I’m going to be more disciplined.”
But he insisted: “I’m much more relaxed and more mature than I was 12 years ago. . . .
Newt, it sure would have been nice if you had waited until your wife had recovered before you presented her with divorce papers while she was just recovering from surgery. Newt “dont throw stones if your own windows are glass”. He is so despicable and as Rachel says a true scam artist. I could not help myself. I needed to say that.
Also, creepier, seedier and more multi-chinned. Newt,-your are not fine wine. When you start out with a haet-filled spirit and nasty personality, time doesn’t make you better, it just makes you old.
I DARE any of my fellow TODers (lurkers and non-lurkers alike) to scroll through the first 8 photos on this thread and not have a smile/smirk/grin/ on your face by the time you get to pic #8!

That’s a very Jackie O-esque dress FLOTUS is wearing today. I kinda reminds me of something the Brady Bunch mom, or Mary Tyler Moore, or Bewitched mom would wear. I’m on the fence about it.
Having said that, FLOTUS’ hair makes me miss my old time relaxed hair (I wear it natural now)

Why Obama Still Matters
The one thing I noticed in my continental run-around this past week is just how mad liberals are at Obama. I remain as baffled by this anger as I am by Republican contempt for the guy. New York magazine has two superb essays that sum up my own feelings on both sides pretty perfectly - by Jon Chait and David Frum. Chait notes how systemic and eternal liberal disenchantment is, and how congenitally useless Democrats are in rallying round a leader, even one who has achieved so much in such a short time. Many Dems even now think Clinton was more successful in fighting the GOP in his first term than Obama has been. (Memo to the left: universal healthcare was achieved under Obama). But much of this is the usual Democratic limpness and whininess. If George Bush had taken out Osama bin Laden, wiped out al Qaeda’s leadership and gathered a treasure trove of real intelligence by a daring raid, he’d be on Mount Rushmore by now. If he’d done the equivalent on the right of universal healthcare, he’d be the second coming of Reagan. But Obama and liberals? If I hear one more gripe about single payer from someone in their fifties with a ponytail, I’ll scream.
But the right is more unhinged and more dangerously full of denial. Since I was never structurally or financially or socially linked to the Washington right, I was immune to the withdrawal of jobs, money and access doled out to any dissenter in the Bush years. But every now and again, I get some kind of amazed look - “You’re not going to back Obama again, are you?” - from someone in the conservative cocoon, and when I respond, “So far, you bet!”, there is often a long pause and a genuine sadness on their faces. “What the hell happened to him?” you can hear them asking themselves.
Some of this is as head-scratching for me as it is for David:
Some of the smartest and most sophisticated people I know—canny investors, erudite authors—sincerely and passionately believe that President Barack Obama has gone far beyond conventional American liberalism and is willfully and relentlessly driving the United States down the road to socialism. No counterevidence will dissuade them from this belief: not record-high corporate profits, not almost 500,000 job losses in the public sector, not the lowest tax rates since the Truman administration. It is not easy to fit this belief alongside the equally strongly held belief that the president is a pitiful, bumbling amateur, dazed and overwhelmed by a job too big for him—and yet that is done too.
http://andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com/2011/11/why-obama-still-matters.html
Just goes to show ya that canny investment skills and erudition do not go hand in hand with common sense observation and pragmatism.
Slight correction to Sullivan’s piece: Liberals aren’t mad at Obama. It’s certain media pundits and blogsite owners who claim to be liberals who are mad at Obama and if you look a bit deeper, you would realize that these “liberals” are anything but…they are often Libertarian or Republican masquerading as “Liberals.”
No one really cares to look at stats unless they are acutally polls which say what the person wants to hear. Jon stewart did a great piece some time ago on the over-all republican-ness of the US, saying that everyone is basically republican, some more so than others. it’s like being a conservative republican, a democratic republican, or non republican. Perhaps a real third party needs to be formed that will hold to the true democratic ideals which the president values and lives everyday and what people who read write and comment on this amazing site believe whole heartedly.

Thanks JoJo!!
The HDC is actually ON the CSUDH CAMPUS!
And it’s a goreous stadium. I’m going to have to drag you to a game next season!
These kids have almost single-handedly re-ignited my faith in the younger generation. BTW, check out the photo that goes along with this article. That young lady seated to Bachmann’s left is my hero of the day!
Bachmann gives students a 101 on issues, then gets lectured
HAAAAAAAAAAA! That girl is AWESOME!!!
Hahaha. Love it. She hates being challenged with those pesky things called: FACTS.
From the mouths of babes (young adults) who shall lead the way……I am so proud of them!
Some Thoughts On Chait
by BooMan
Mon Nov 21st, 2011 at 12:59:45 PM EST
The flipside of David’s Frum’s piece about the stupidity of the right was provided by Jonathan Chait, writing about the unreasonableness of the left. On the whole, I agree with Mr. Chait’s analysis. But I really feel like he missed something by going all the way back to FDR to show how liberals have been unhappy with every Democratic president in recent history.
In any broad historical piece, you’re going to run into definitional problems of what constitutes the left, or the liberal left, or the progressive movement, or even the Democratic Party. I don’t think you can talk about the left’s relationship with the Democratic Party in the same way pre- and post-Vietnam, or pre- and post-Civil Rights Era. Mr. Chait may be right there there are certain personality traits among liberals that have remained consistent throughout, but the liberal left changed fundamentally during the 1960′s. In the 1930′s and 1940′s, the liberal left was the intellectual soul of Democratic Party. It had to cobble together an uneasy coalition of socialists and Jim Crow Democrats and city bosses and ward heelers. But liberals were in charge of the big things, like implementing the New Deal, creating the United Nations, and setting up the Bretton Woods system. While liberals agitated for social reforms and found themselves stymied on many fronts, they didn’t feel completely left out of power. In many areas, they wielded power. And if we look back now with the benefit of hindsight, we can see that the liberals were on a victorious march towards ending apartheid in the South and winning much of the argument over social policies with Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society. There was something of a liberal consensus in this country. At least, there was enough of a consensus for liberal ideas to win the day.
But then came Vietnam. That stupid war destroyed the liberal consensus. It created a counterculture. And that counterculture is where liberal legitimacy went to die. You cannot be a governing philosophy at the same time that you are countercultural movement. A countercultural movement is set up to oppose power. It is a critique of a country, not a platform for governing a country. And that’s where the left has been stuck since about 1968. This is something distinct from Will Rogers’s old saw about “I’m not a member of any organized political party, I’m a Democrat!” This isn’t just about herding cats. It’s a fundamental flaw in the progressive predisposition.
http://www.boomantribune.com/story/2011/11/21/125945/16
That seems a bit harsh. Yes, it created a counter-culture, most of which is at retirement age right now. Life has a funny way of muddying the waters of counter-culture. Interestingly I find it easier to educate 60-something hippies about how stuff gets done now than I thought would be possible. It takes a certain amount of relentlessness, but they will listen.
This last part of the BooMan showed be read by all too
“There are virtues in the progressive attitude toward power. Most obviously, you can look at the way Republicans will follow their leaders over cliffs to see what happens when you don’t have a healthy skepticism towards your own party’s leaders. But neither lemming-like obedience nor chronic dissatisfaction are smart or healthy political attitudes.
……We need to act like we trust power to do great things, and project that we are the right people to hold that power. And we need to take our positions within that power coalition rather than positioning ourselves as always outside of it serving as the gadfly.
Liberals used to be able to do this. But since the disaster in 1968, it seems like we just want to attack all forms of power, even when they are our own.” As Clooney said, Democrats eat their own.
You know who talked about this exact topic? A young Barack Obama in his book “Dreams From My Father.” He describes friends of his protesting while at Occidental College in Los Angeles, and how he started realizing that they’re living off some nostalgia for what the 1960s were about, and how it wasn’t really helping with the particular issue. In fact, it could be hurting actual progress. He started thinking about more effective ways to you know, actually make things better in the world.
Around 20 years old, President Obama understood this dynamic. Instead of re-hashing tired old debates, perhaps other Liberals should stop telling America’s first melanin-enhanced President what he “needs to do” all the time, and instead listen and learn from the guy who is 15 steps ahead of them most of the time.
Anyone who is part of any OWS thingy “needs to” be first in line to listen to this historic President of the United States and follow his lead. That is of course assuming they actually care about making real, actual change in society. They can start by supporting President Obama’s push to get the various Jobs bills through, which have many things in them that OWS people supposedly care about. So, whattaya say, OWSers? You in?
A wasted moment IMHO….Here you had a movement who started off with a great message. We are the 99% and there is a great disparity in this country between the wealthy and all the rest. So what did they do with this message….***crickets***. Now its all about fighting with police and the country that was solidly behind this movement at its inception is now saying “I’m not sure what the heck you are about” so we’ll take a pass until you get your act together. #OWS was so busy worrying about not being co-opted that they lost sight of what this was really all about. We The People.
{Snip}
A new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll shows that the “Occupy” movement has failed to capture the attention of a majority of Americans, indicating either ambivalence toward it or lack of interest.
The poll finds that 56% of Americans surveyed are neither supporters nor opponents and 59% say they don’t know enough to have an opinion about the movement’s goals.
The survey, however, does show an increase from 20% to 31% in disapproval of the way the protests are being conducted.
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2011/11/poll-occupy-movement-fails-to-capture-americans-interest/1?source=twitter
That is because they allowed anti-Obama opportunists like Rotigan, MM and Buddy Roemer to co-opt their movement and confuse the issue.
Totally agree Donna and Hopefruit. They lost me when they disrespected Congressman John Lewis. Yet they allowed MM and others to speak.
This goes to the point Booman was making above (linked article) there is a wing in the Dem party that is counter culture simply for the sake of being so. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard the OWS folks compare themselves to the freedom marchers/riders, with the newest slogan popping up being “pepper spray is the new fire hose”. It’s not about any message, it’s about them “fighting the man” and bragging about being arrested and singing “We shall overcome” in the holding cells…
For those of you interested in this Occupy stuff, this is a great callout to all who think they are on the right side of this occupy revolution.
Please if you see this video, let me know what you think. Hang with it till the end, it is marvelous. Revolution vs rebellion, those words are important!
The irony is that the group that pretends to speak for the 99% by tent-dwelling represents less than 1% of the 99%. They don’t speak for me. The President fight for a jobs bill and a Sen. Harkin actually introducing a bill to enact a Wall Street transaction tax — something OWS claims is one of their goals — are who speak for me.
They misunderstand the lessons of the Civil Rights Movement, assuming of course they have studied the Movement. The March on Washington wasn’t a March for Optics and Camera time, it was a March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. There were concrete objectives fought for regarding housing, education and jobs on several fronts in the courts and in the streets.
Their endgame wasn’t to fight police and set up encampments outside of the context of legal fights being waged simultaneously.
OWS has not substantive achievements other than viral videos. That’s not enough to achieve their stated objectives.
The war on Wealth Inequality is as amorphous as Bush’s War on Terror.
As Donna Dem 4 Obama points out, OWS may be able to learn something from a guy who began as a community organizer and rose to a global organizer-in-chief.
Or not.
And have their entire “movement” dismantled and discredited by Christmastime.
Alleged Jerry Sandusky victim leaves school because of bullying, counselor says
Victim One, the first known alleged victim of abuse by former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky, had to leave his school in the middle of his senior year because of bullying, his counselor said Sunday.
Officials at Central Mountain High School in Clinton County weren’t providing guidance for fellow students, who were reacting badly about Joe Paterno’s firing and blaming the 17-year-old, said Mike Gillum, the psychologist helping his family. Those officials were unavailable for comment this weekend.
The name-calling and verbal threats were just too much, he said.
Other alleged victims are turning to each other for support, since they fear others will out them and cause a media swarm. The only encouragement for Victim One, Gillum said, is watching other alleged victims come forward because they felt empowered by his courage.

Don’t read the comments…very sad commentary of our population
(This is a re-post from a previous thread.) I didn’t post this article for sensationalism, or voyeurism, but to express my deepest gratitude to Extreme Liberal for having the courage to come forward and share a very personal, painful experience. As parents, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and friends–we have an obligation to protect each other when we can. I say “when we can” because realistically speaking there may be times when we simply aren’t able to protect the ones we love. Silence can have devastating consequences, especially for those–young and old alike–who don’t know how to reach out and let someone know that they’ve been hurt in this way. I know this is a topic that makes many people uncomfortable or angry, and it should. But It’s not my intention to evoke those emotions. Imo, this is an issue that needs to be discussed more often with our families and friends TO RAISE AWARENESS. Again, thank you Extreme Liberal!~
Teach Your Children What To Look For And Listen To Them!
I was sexually assaulted by two teenage boys in my neighborhood when I was around 10 years old. The two incidents were independent of each other. I don’t know exactly how old I was or the amount of time that separated the incidents, but based on what I remember, I’m pretty sure I was between 9 – 11 years old when the assaults happened. From what I’ve deduced, the teenagers were both around 4 years older than me. It was a difficult time in my young life, my father died when I was 6 years old of a heart attack and my mother was a single, working mom — trying to raise 5 boys on her own. I never told my mother about the incidents. If I had, all hell would have broken loose and heads would have rolled. She was absolutely the best mother that ever walked the earth.
The first person I told about these assaults was a girlfriend, I was 20 years old at the time. I’ve since been very open about it and have come to terms with it. I encourage anyone else who has suffered through similar assaults to get it out in the open, talk to people. So much of the pain that people carry around is because they keep it to themselves.

He’s running for office, for Pete’s sake
Shortly before Mitt Romney departed the governor’s office, 11 of his top aides purchased 17 state-issued hard drives, purging the Romney administration’s email records in advance of his presidential campaign. The move has no precedent among modern Massachusetts governors, including Romney’s recent Republican predecessors.
Late last week, Romney refused to explain the missing hard drives, and when asked why they were purchased, the Republican would only say his aides “all followed the law exactly as it’s written.” That, of course, wasn’t the question.
Today, as Alex Seitz-Wald noted, Romney offered a rather amazing explanation during an interview with the Nashua Telegraph in New Hampshire.
“Well, I think in government we should follow the law. And there has never been an administration that has provided to the opposition research team, or to the public, electronic communications. So ours would have been the first.”
Wait, what?
http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/index.php
That soundbyte “I’m running for office for pete’s sake” should be in every attack ad against Romney come the general. If Mitt had any legit primary challengers it would have already sunk him.
It will, mittens still gas nit been chosen. His 25% is due to his mass hcr law! The conservative base can’t get over it!
Problem for them is Newt was pro-mandate in the past as well. And Perry, Bachmann, Cain and Santorum are not electable. I’m surprised Huntsman hasn’t tried “Hey, I’m Mitt but without the mandate baggage”…
ok, where is the ENTIRE WEST WING WEEK?
One of my favorite Obama speeches.
I’m Just Getting Started.
Loved it! “I don’t quit. I’m just getting started. I’m not tired. I’m ready to go! I never said change was going to be easy. Change is hard. Big change is even harder. But I don’t quit!” Our energizer bunny President.
Tien Le pointed us to two excellent articles from smartypants. While there I clicked on xpostfactoid, one of the links on her blog roll and ran across three articles that take a broad view of President Obama’s approach to bully pulpiting and governing:

The Great Myth About Obama’s Soaring Rhetoric
http://xpostfactoid.blogspot.com/2009/09/great-myth-about-obamas-soaring.html
As a huge admirer of the President’s eloquence, as he is the dream professor I never had, I enjoyed the article The Great Myth About Obama’s Soaring Rhetoric because it highlights how his policy proposals are rooted in shrewd storytelling.
Here’s a passage about the value of soft power as a diplomatic strategy that is so unusually eloquent coming from any elected official in the last 50 years:
“What lies in the heart of a child in Pakistan matters as much as the airplanes we sell her government. What’s in the head of a scientist from Russia can be as lethal as a plutonium reactor in Yongbyon. What’s whispered in refugee camps in Chad can be as dangerous as a dictator’s bluster. These are the neglected landscapes of the 21st century, where technology and extremism empower individuals just as they give governments the ability to repress them; where the ancient divides of region and religion wash into the swift currents of globalization.”
I cannot express to you how grateful I am to have this kind of thinker and communicator as President of the United States. I can’t imagine this kind of clear-eyed, poetic, statesmanship coming from any elected public official in the Democratic party let alone from Romney, Cain or Gingrich.
My mind, body and soul need this multi-gifted lucid genius to be re-elected for eight terms, I will begrudgingly settle for two. Press on.
That’s just a wonderful, insightful, downright poetic quote from Barack Obama. He’s a philosopher, a humanist, a wise man and I am so glad someone sees it who agrees with me that eight terms is just about right—but we’ll both settle. Thank you, Firedup, for sharing the deep thoughts of the president and the supportive interpretations of xpostfactoid.
Philospher-king comes to mind when reading those words even though I don’t know much about what that means except an ideal leader. It reminds me of that big-eared heiroglyphic in the Egyptian tomb we saw when President Obama traveled to the Pyramids.

Look like an Egyptian – Obama sees his ancient twin
Joe Von Kanel
CNN Writer and Editor
President Obama got an “up close and personal” —VERY personal as it turns out— look at the pyramids before leaving Egypt today. One of the tombs contains a 4,600-year-old relief portrait of a man named Kar, who was a priest, scholar and judge. He also looked exactly like Mr. Obama – big ears and all. Take a look!
President Obama’s Egyptian look-alike.
Now, check out the President’s reaction.
Guide: This is a tomb dated four thousand 600 years ago. And the person who is back here, his name is Kar. His name is written in hyroglypic and it looks like Kar.
Obama: That looks like me! Look at those ears.
He even brought Press Secretary Robert Gibbs and Senior Counselor David Axelrod over to show them the resemblance.
President Obama showing his aides the resemblance.
Obama to Gibbs and Axelrod: I want to show you something.
Guide: Mister President, you look like King Tut. It’s true. I said this the whole time – two years ago. You were a king in ancient Egypt.
Okay, my mind makes weird connections. I grant you, I sound like an idiot! LOL
Well, I trust all the TODers have moved along to the next thread and no one will see this;-)
I am completely in sync with your train of thought in this post. Thanks for your post Fancieful.

Why Obama Still Matters
“The one thing I noticed in my continental run-around this past week is just how mad liberals are at Obama.
:
It was never my party, but it was one to which I could once accord regular agreement and respect. No more. I remain unrepentant in my support for this president, a man who has accomplished more in the face of a more hostile environment in his first three years than any president since Johnson. I wish more reasonable Dems and a few moderate Republicans will soon have the courage to say so”
Sully speaking the truth and nothing but. Thanks for this refreshing piece Eveingeorgia. I fell out with the Loud and Wrong Left when I paid close attention to their willingness to do keep the status quo during healthcare reform and financial reform. I became disgusted with them during the process of DADT being dismantiled. I thought, wait a second, I don’t recall a single member of congress that is currently serving or the ex-President that ushered in DADT and DOMA ever being heckled or held accountable for their votes.
Yet the one guy working to overturn it was subject to constant hectoring as he was dismantling it on top of unfounded accusations of homophobia and then when he did preside over a plan that finally dismantled it, the Left credited Choi chaining himself to a fence and heckling as the real reason DADT ended and relegated President Obama to being a passive observer.
I was done and remain done with the Left as they continue to prove themselves as poor strategists, whether it’s coming up with catty names like the Catfood Commission or wasting political capital on losers like Weiner and Grayson. I’m an Obamacrat. Democrats and the Left have alot of work to do before they ever get a micron of unshakable support that I give this President who has proven himself over and over.
FiredUpInCa, thank you for that analysis. You have put into words what I have been thinking. I will want to quote from this.
Will that be alright?
Sure that’ll be alright.
I’ve made some of these arguments about the Left’s poor strategizing more exhaustively at the Orange Site, a place I haven’t gone to in ages.
Here:
On strategizing:
http://www.dailykos.com/comments/991352/42250576#c56
On healthcare reform:
http://www.dailykos.com/comments/996869/42476123#c252
On pragmatism:
http://www.dailykos.com/comments/996869/42473908#c58
I couldn’t find my posts that Ted Kennedy voted for DADT while Paul Wellstone voted for DOMA yet neither (correctly) received any of their incessant accusations on aspersions on character as President Obama.
I’ve only added these links to that horrible site because they provide more facts and evidence to inform my disgust about the double standards and bad strategizing that comes from the Loud and Wrong left.
Feel free to use all freely.
I remember Barney Frank calling on the gay community to support DADT. I also remember his needling the President in front of the gay community about his putting off its repeal. These cowards sicken me—they are cynical, self-aggrandising and hypocritical and hide behind the graciousness of the president, while refusing to have his back. Ugh!
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An accused White House shooter, who allegedly called President Barack Obama the “devil” and “anti-Christ,” was ordered on Monday to undergo a mental exam to determine his competency to face charges of attempting to kill the president.
http://mobile.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSTRE7AK25820111121?irpc=932
with all due respect Jovie since this has nothing to do with you but if I could answer these folks I would say that these idiots are crazy.I don’t need no damn mental exam. This domestic terrorist actually shot at the bloody White House. That’s all the damn proof I need
Well, then why not order the same exams for Pat Robertson, Rush, Bachman and the entire rabid rightwing machine and their evangelical cohort who all spout the same quasi-religious maniacal gibberish. These are extreme pharisaical religionists who will—and do—kill in the name of God—Christian Jihadists!
That short video is wonderful as are all the pictures. One thing I think is wonderful is the relationship Michelle and Jill have. They have partnered and are doing so much good! Never before have I seen a President’s and Vice-President’s wives working together on anything. Their affection for each other is obvious, and strengthens them. I’m so glad we have them working for America!
I also think it says a lot about the genuine relationship between the Obamas and the Bidens in the picture with FLOTUS holding VP Biden’s hand. Could you imagine this with any prior administrations?
Yes, theo! Love that picture of the FLOTUS holding V.P. Joe’s hand! These two families have truly connected and sincerely care about each other.
theo67 - I just saw that and it really touched me for some reason. Love to see that support. I “heart” the Bidens especially ride or die Joe. I am so appreciative of the fact that President Obama had the good sense to ask him to be his VP.

Wow….anybody BUT Romney. How patheic Romney must feel.
One of the four Anti-Romney’s need to drop out already. Cain is a true believer in himself so won’t go anywhere but if Newt is serious he should talk to both Bachmann and Perry to see if they’d drop out and endorse him for a cabinet promise.
WASHINGTON-The Obama team top fund-raisers-the National Finance Committee-hold their next meeting here on Dec. 12 and 13. The meeting comes as the fourth quarter is winding down for the holidays and President Obama and First Lady Michelle in December will be bolted down in the White House for a blizzard of holiday parties-and then back to Hawaii over Christmas and New Years.
Obama is scheduled to headline two fund-raisers in New York on Nov. 30 and in Washington, one on Dec. 7 and another on Dec. 14. A group of present and former NBA stars-a who’s who of hoops-will play a basketball game here on Dec. 12 to benefit the Obama re-election drive.

WASHINGTON-Ret. Gen. Wesley Clark will deliver a strong defense of President Obama’s military and national security record Monday, as the Democratic National Committee puts a spotlight on Republican inconsistencies in advance of CNN’s debate Tuesday with the GOP presidential hopefuls.
The Tuesday debate focus will be on national security and the DNC is organizing a press conference this afternoon with Clark, a former presidential candidate, former Navy Secretary Richard Danzig and Ret. Major General Paul Eaton. The GOP debate last week showed, the DNC said in a statement, “the Republican field is not ready for the world stage.” The CNN-hosted Republican takes place in Washington starting at 8 p.m. est.
Clark is expected to say at the press conference that Obama “in making the call to finally bring Osama bin Laden to justice, President Obama showed America’s resolve and proved once again the extraordinary capabilities of our national security forces. Now, al-Qaeda is weaker than at any point since 9/11.”

Wow, did Lynn Sweet fall on her head? She actually made it through an article without making some smarmy comment about the President?
Oh boy. Jon huntsman, media darling, on John king at 6.
How this guy gets soooo much press is beyond me!
So I’m watching some TV over the weekend and notice a commercial for Chase Bank about its money-back or rebate or whatever. They make a point of saying that other banks limit the amount of purchases that qualify and you only save $15. But with Chase, the limit is higher, you save a whopping $75 which is 5 times the size of other banks!
I’m wondering: I hear 15 bucks and think “big deal”. $75 bucks — maybe a help to some, but not at the amount of spending you need to do. That these actual numbers were so prominently displayed and wouldn’t have made a compelling case to me to change to Chase (as if I ever would) — is this disclosure part of the financial consumer protections that were recently passed?
Just wondering — it seemed odd in an ad and when I hear about these cashback programs, I’ve never heard this level of disclosure before.
Chase gives you options to purchase a recommended stores….some of mine were Shell Oil…Burger King…I am a vegetarian and some stores I have never heard of.
Don’t mind me guys, but I feel like doing a shout out to a couple of our siblings who I think are following in spirit, even if they can’t publish right now for whatever reason. Hang in there, sibs!

And of course we know HZ is probably just catching up on her sleep after a couple of sleepless nights.
I saw a message from Sue in M last night - she emerged! She said she’d had some computer problems, had suffered withdrawals from TOD but got her computer back sooner than expected. I think she’s doing ok. I haven’t seen Joan, though.
Oh wow Theo, I missed the message from Sue! Thrilled she’s back, we missed her!
I’ll email Joan again just to check everything’s good.
Thanks Theo.
Thanks, Theo.
This is good news. I’m working my way backwards so I’ll look for it.
Omg- jack cafferty question?
Should Obama step aside and let Hillary take over?
What kind of fucked up question is this???
You all should go to his crazy blog and let him have it!
Here is a great response to Cafferty’s foolishness, even though written in response to two other nuts, it fits:
From Balloon Juice
They took it all too far
by DougJ
There’s a crazy new Doug Schoen/Pat Caddell piece that I’m not going to link to. I’ll let Steve M. do the honors:
Look, I’m not going to rise to the bait by responding seriously to the new Wall Street Journal op-ed by Fox-News-Democrat pollsters Pat Caddell and Doug Schoen, in which they assert that President Obama should step aside and let Hillary Clinton run in his place. They don’t mean a word they say; she’s not going to run, they know it, and they’re fully aware of the fact that they and their friends would eviscerate her if she did. The point of the op-ed isn’t to express an opinion—it’s to trip Obama and the Democrats up. It’s carefully timed to rule the morning political chatter so it can do that. It’s not a contribution to the national dialogue; it’s a leg extended in the aisle as the bullied kid gets up to walk to the front of the classroom.
The thing is this: the story does not seem to be part of the morning chatter. Even Politico and Halperin are ignoring it.
The first rule of trolling is that you do not talk about trolling. And when you write that Obama should step aside and let Hillary run, you are, in effect, talking about trolling. It’s too damn obvious.
Also too: Caddell and Schoen have been banished from Fred Hiatt’s house of faux seriousness and now reside in Paul Gigot’s house of overt neo-fascism. That also makes people ignore them more.
Those two should have stuck to “white working class Appplebee’s dads hate Obama and hippies blah blah blah”. Hiatt would have kept running that shit forever and Halperin/Politico/Morning Joe would follow along too.
well it would make for better reality tv.
To even ask the question is outrageous but, what about VP Biden?
I am so sick of these media people trying to push these memes about the President.
FO all .
criquet - these questions are so predictable I can’t even get riled up over the foolishness. Like I said, VP Biden wouldn’t create that 24/7 circus drama that SOS Clinton would. So it makes sense that they would continue to ask the question. Silly season indeed.
Two words for him.. No, Stupid.
Sounds treasonous, to me. I’m sure the Chinese are thrilled to hear crap like that, since they’re feeling the heat from President Obama. Oh, how I hate this media.

On Friday, the Energy Department’s Brookhaven National Laboratory “flipped the switch” on the largest solar photovoltaic array in the eastern United States. The 164,312 solar panels hosted at the Lab in New York State — one of the largest solar farms built on federal property in the nation — will produce enough energy to power up to 4,500 homes.
The 32-megawatt Long Island Solar Farm (LISF) Project, a collaborative project between the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) and BP Solar International, Inc. (BP Solar), also boasts the smallest carbon footprint of any solar array with its amount of output. The use of an Energy Department site has helped attract investments from public and private sources, ensuring the economic success of the project and serving the nation’s goal to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and foreign oil.

The 89 employees of a New York law firm specializing in foreclosures who dressed as homeless people during an office Halloween party last year have been thrown out on the street. Steven J. Baum P.C., a firm that specialized in foreclosures, is closing its doors a month after photos showing employees celebrating Halloween by dressing like the homeless surfaced in a New York Times column by Joe Nocera.
Nocera wrote a follow up column this weekend, in which he quoted an angry email he received from Mr. Baum himself. The firm announced the shuttering via press release and was reported by the NYT: “Disrupting the livelihoods of so many dedicated and hardworking people is extremely painful, but the loss of so much business left us no choice but to file these notices,” said Mr. Baum in a press release issued on Monday. A firm spokesman said it would have no further comment beyond the release…
On Saturday, Joe Nocera, The Times columnist who originally wrote about wrote about the firm’s Halloween party, published another column about the controversy. In it, he quoted an e-mail that Mr. Baum had sent him last week. “Mr. Nocera — You have destroyed everything and everyone related to Steven J. Baum PC,” said the letter. “It took 40 years to build this firm and three weeks to tear down.”
“I think that’s what they call shooting the messenger,” Mr. Nocera said.
