This really is a Must Read and pass along..

We let a minority of voters give Trump the presidency by not turning out to vote for Clinton. (Trump didn’t even get as many votes as McCain and Romney, but Clinton received nearly five million fewer votes that Obama in 2012). But if we now and for the next four years insist that he honor our most fundamental constitutional values, including equality, human dignity, fair process, privacy, and the rule of law, and if we organize and advocate in defense of those principles, he can and will be contained. It won’t happen overnight. There will be many protracted struggles. The important thing to bear in mind is that if we fight, we can prevail.

Pope decries ‘virus’ of polarization over race, faith

    Associated PressNovember 19, 2016

The pope spoke of “our pitiful hearts that tend to judge, divide, oppose and condemn” and cautioned somberly against those who “raise walls, build barriers and label people.”

Earlier this year, when asked about the plan by Donald Trump, then a Republican U.S. presidential candidate and now president-elect, to build a wall to keep Mexicans and others from illegally entering the U.S., the pope replied that anyone advocating building walls isn’t a Christian.

I think it’s time for me to “de-clutter” my life, I’m going to unfriend all of my friends on Facebook that voted for Trump. Because quite frankly, why would I continue to converse with people that give me agita, most of them I haven’t seen in years anyway.

    • November 20, 2016 at 10:29 am

Hahaha….I thought of doing the same even though I don’t know who did. But I decided I’ll keep them for when they get mightily let down, just so I can gloat. 🙂

Good move Don! I did the same thing right after the election! I don’t want to be friends with anyone that would, could or did vote for him!

      • November 20, 2016 at 11:12 am

I did same thing too. Unfriended only 3or 4; unfollowed a lot. Occasionally I check the pages of a few; quickly learn why I unfollowed. Here’s the thing: some of them are church friends and even in my small group. Glad we are out-of-town for next meeting. I’ll have to face it sooner or later. On one of the pages, this is what I saw: a sign — Put God back in the White House. Give me a fr—— break. Obviously, she thinks PO is a Muslim and also obviously she thinks T is a Christian. Lol.Lol. 😔😫

        November 20, 2016 at 12:10 pm

Sorry, but when you get elected President you don’t get to decide when and how to move in to the job. President Obama moved his young daughters (while they were both in school) to DC.

If Donald & Melania were all that concerned about that child, he would not have run for President to begin with. They had the 10-yr old boy up at 3AM standing in front of the cameras while Trump went yapping on and on about his victory.

Also, there’s something “off” about that kid.

          GM HF2.

          Agree with you.

Though I think it’s good practice not to say damaging things about children (they’re not responsible for their parents’ actions), he truly gives me the creeps. #DemonSeed #ChildrenOfTheCorn (never saw the movie, but think it’s appropriate).

Knowing absolutely nothing about him, he looks like cruelty is just who he is, looks like the spawn of Putin (again, people have no control over their looks/coloring, but man-oh-man, get DJT out of WH before more damage is done to this kid).

The Obamas moved to Washington early to make sure the girls were there to start school at the beginning of the semester. Is this kid so lacking in social skills he cannot adjust to a new school? This should not be that difficult at 10. High school is more difficult but I remember moving at 11 and it wasn’t a big deal. Likewise, I moved my daughter from MN to TX when she was 9. Most kids do not have problems changing schools at this age.

And there is the fact that the position of First Lady is a job. If Melania did not want to do it, her husband should not have run.

I was just watching a Documentary about Hitler this morning I think is was the history channel, I am so sick about the Muslim registry that might come about. What are we doing here, are we actually going to go down this road? Trump’s selection for AG is a white nationalist, and his pick for chief strategist is a racist.

Shit will hit the fan if they try. Lawsuits and more lawsuits. And impeachment. I guess we had to go in the slimey gutter in order for people to see what a self absorbed, morally/ethically bankrupt, devoid of intellectual curiousity PEOTUS could do.

      Important Read.

How might American democracy end? The United States would not be the first long-lasting government to collapse. Whether they supported communism or not, those who lived under it assumed, in Alexei Yurchak’s words, that communism was forever—until it was no more. Developments in the United States bear an uncomfortable resemblance to those that fore-shadowed the decline of democracy elsewhere in the world (Poland, Hungary, and Russia, and earlier, Latin America in the 1960s and interwar Europe).

There are three pieces to the puzzle of why and how democracies fail. The first involves public opinion.

The second piece is dysfunctional political institutions.

The final piece of the puzzle is the role of politicians in terminating democracy. As Nancy Bermeo reminds us, it is political leaders that end democracy, not angry publics or dysfunctional institutions.

Yes he did. He is an historian who understands just how far the GOP has taken this country in undermining democracy. He is also a master at reading others and knows exactly what DT will attempt to do. The ONLY hope I have at this point is that it has only been 8 years since we’ve been rid of W. While many of the voters don’t care, I suspect the other 75% remember it well. But it is going to be an epic battle to preserve this democracy.
