Wishing everyone at TOD a very Happy and HEALTHY New Year for 2016. Also for all family members, beloved pets, and others we hold dear.
Been only lurking for the past several weeks due to spending some glorious time with my brand new first grandchild Penelope Jeanne. Born on Dec 14th. The most perfect Christmas present ever!! Parents are doing a superb job of caring for and loving her. Couldn’t be more proud of them all.
And thank you to those of you who put up the link to get the Obama calendar a few posts back. It’s the only other thing I wanted for the new year. Love and happiness to you all for 2016.
Congratulations, Cd4. There is nothing more joyous than a new grandchild. I hope you, your family and little Penelope Jeanne have a happy and healthy new year.
cd4Biden - Nothing like a *brand new first grandchild* — mine’s now 25 years old, and the leader of a pack of ’em! It goes quickly, looking back, but you’ll enjoy every minute of it! Happy New Year.
Aloha TOD Ohana!
Just stretching into the new day, haven’t caught up with this morning’s threads here, but saw this and had to share: The Obama Dollar Rally!
‘ After three straight years of gains, strategists are forecasting the U.S. currency will be a world beater again in 2016, strengthening against seven of 10 developed-world peers by the end of the year, according to the median estimate in a Bloomberg survey. That outlook is backed by the Federal Reserve’s stated intent to continue raising interest rates while peers in the rest of the world keep them flat or lower.
The rally that started during President Barack Obama’s second term is poised to join a category defined by only the biggest, most durable periods of dollar strength since the currency’s peg to gold ended in 1971. ‘
Susanne, this will make the R candidates livid. They were praying for a bad economic year so they, the economy wreckers, could portray themselves as saviors.
I saw it, df, and I’ll treasure it. Thank you for making sure I knew about it. I brought my laptop and knitting up so I can just sit on the bed beside Sophie. No work getting done today. I’m here by myself today and the fellowship of TOD means a lot.
It’s part of an old highway begun in 1917 to link the Midwest to Florida. One branch runs to Chicago and the other goes up through Michigan to Saulte Ste. Marie at the top of the upper peninsula, I think. It was a connected series of paved roads started with private funds and became Federal Rte 1. It’s mostly been superseded by expressways now, but I have college friends whose parents used to drive down Dixie Hwy all the way to Florida for the winter. Part of it runs not far from me now and is still called Dixie Hwy. It would be awesome if one day the whole route was renamed for our President.
Man, 23, killed in Las Vegas after police mistake cell phone for gun https://t.co/5n9bDyUpnF pic.twitter.com/fWPMxBF6A3

Black male adult… appeared to be holding a firearm. Believing that the suspect was armed, in a residential area, and wanted for attempted murder, two officers fired at the suspect, striking him several times.

How convenient for the cops and the media that he had a rap sheet so they could lead the article saying ‘hey, look, he was a criminal’ so it lessens the impact of their mistake.
Once again, how is it that they don’t have the skills to disarm a black suspect while they are so adept at taking white suspects alive?
I read an article online about a test developed by researchers to study racist. There is a version online. It’s a bit difficult to explain you see two pictures, one white one black and then are asked to rate each one positively or negatively as quickly as you can. It measures the time you take to consider your choice. It revealed that even people who truly do not think they are racist, and who would not behave in a racist way towards others, take longer (probably by milliseconds) to respond positively to the black image. (I took this test as a white person and don’t know what the results would be for a black person). This test also showed that people, even trained police officers, are more likely to mistake something in a black person’s hand for a gun. It’s a very depressing test, but actually if you take it over and over again you can change your results. Police in this country need much more and much better training. I’m not for a minute excusing these officers. It just makes me mad that all these shootings are put off as “honest mistake” or “felt threatened”. We will never fix this problem unless and until we acknowledge a problem exists.
For Donald Trump, Lessons From a Brother’s Suffering
Freddy’s son, Fred III, spoke at the funeral, and that night, his wife went into labor with their son, who developed seizures that led to cerebral palsy. The Trump family promised that it would take care of the medical bills.
Then came the unveiling of Fred Sr.’s will, which Donald had helped draft. It divided the bulk of the inheritance, at least $20 million, among his children and their descendants, “other than my son Fred C. Trump Jr.”
Freddy’s children sued, claiming that an earlier version of the will had entitled them to their father’s share of the estate, but that Donald and his siblings had used “undue influence” over their grandfather, who had dementia, to cut them out.
A week later, Mr. Trump retaliated by withdrawing the medical benefits critical to his nephew’s infant child.
Oh, Chips, I have some very choice words that I could say here, but they would not be printable. . I could start with the letter A, then B, then a string of F words, and a few with the letter S. I’ve had classier dirt than Trump under my fingernails after a day in the yard. Barn animal excrement rates higher than he does. Mr. G calls him amoral, which is a classier way of saying the words I’m thinking of.
Karma is long overdue for this cretin. He’s gotten away with too many disgusting behaviors in his life and the time for reckoning needs to come soon. It makes me deeply ashamed that so many of my fellow Americans think that a creature like this worthy of the highest office in the land. The fact that rational people are even talking about him is insane.
It’s frightening alright Jackie, just when we were recovering from so many people voting for Palin to be a heartbeat from the Presidency. Sometimes democracy is a serious disappointment.
I’m sore from pinching myself Madame Soph, I’d forgotten what a Man U win felt like! :-)
That’s something else that’s on my To Do list for when I rule the world - wills will be outlawed, the loot of the deceased will go direct to animal welfare groups and there won’t be a damn thing families can do about it.
It’s so nice to think of him taking relaxing walks on the beach with his family, enjoying the sunshine. If he makes it through the end of the week, will it be his first complete Christmas break?
IT HAS TO BE SO DIFFICULT TO LEAVE ALL OF THAT WHITE SAND BEHIND AND COME BACK TO…….FILL IN THE BLANKS…BUT…AT LEAST WE ARE HERE TO WELCOME HIM HOME AND HE KNOWS THAT!
Hoping one day that the truth about this whole story will finally emerge, convinced that Snowden was a pawn in a bigger game, with Greenwald the middle man working for gawd knows who - he has so many questionable connections, it could be anyone. He has raked in the cash through all this, and has now the profile he always craved - Snowden, meanwhile, is stranded in Moscow twiddling his thumbs. Not that I have any sympathy for the horrible creep. I look at Greenwald’s Twitter timeline sometimes to annoy myself, and half of it is venom directed at Hillary. Not at Trump, Cruz, Carson or Rubio, mainly Hillary. His agenda is so transparent, he did everything in his power to damage PBO ahead of 2008 and 2012 too, but still he has an army of swooning followers who actually believe he’s a progressive. Amazing stuff.
I hadn’t thought about who he may be working for - interesting - but I do have a little sympathy for Snowden - he so let himself be used. He is of an age with my daughter - who has some “different” ideas about life, democracy and whatever - spend so much time talking about the society we live in and how it might be fixed - young ones can be so easily led down a non-returnable path by the wrong person.
I tweet this every second week, and I’ve yet to see a Snowden fan boy/girl explain it:
When Ron Paul fanboy @Snowden attacks *this* President, it's always fun to remember his stance pre-January 2009….. pic.twitter.com/VaXnlHiffA
— TheObamaDiary.com (@TheObamaDiary) December 18, 2025
Up to January 2009 he passionately supported ‘covert intelligence ops’ - but then - coincidentally, I’m sure - once you-know-who was inaugurated he became a passionate opponent of it all.
He was 30 when he legged it to Moscow, so he was no still-finding-himself kid.
I have no clue what his exact motivations are, but I’ll never forget that even after Ron Paul’s racist newsletters were uncovered, he was donating to him. And now he tries to align himself to the Black Lives Matter movement, and some in it are stupid enough to see him as an ally. He’s not, he’s simply using them to try and boost his credibility, much as Greenwald has tried to do. Needless to say, that hopeless fraud Shaun King is one of GG’s best buddies. Give me strength.
That some in #BlackLivesMatter movement are now aligning with Snowden/Greenwald is pitiful. All ego, no cause. pic.twitter.com/eukwNzFcpy

Was talking to df about being a “child bride” - my first marriage was an unmitigated disaster - but it forced me to grow up quick. I know many of my daughters friends who stayed single into their 30s (incl the daughter) who always had someone else (usually family) to sort out their disasters - and then one day they realised they had to do it all themselves. Sometimes age is no indicator of maturity & the talk and actions of Snowden I find seriously immature. Threw his life away on a whim - being convinced by ?? that he could change the world & probably thought that he could bring down an administration. He probably thought that PBO was an easy take down - well he sure had to grow up quickly because that was never going to happen.
Apologies - I rarely read anything on twitter - other than that directly on TOD - I shall try & do better.
I looked up “entrism” on wikipedia. It has a history behind its usage but I think of it as undercover infiltration. This is definitely the modus operandi of the Ron Paul/Koch brothers/Bircher ilk these days. You have routed out the pattern in the behavior of Greenwald, Snowden and now Shawn what’s his name. When you read the summary of the Bircher movement all the pieces start to come together as to the inconsistant rhetoric of someone like Rand Paul. I have a couple I know in my town that subscribe to Ron Paul’s schtick and they asked if I would like to go to the Dem dinner with them this year. I accepted but with full knowledge that they were practicing entrism. When I called out the fellow of the couple on his climate denial he got very bullying. I behave in a “no drama” way but don’t enable their entrism if I can help it. Always about power with them but stealth is their method. Act like you agree with the person and their positions and then try to convince them to change or at least collect info while you are at it. I guess I think its better to know your enemy and I don’t accuse them of what they are engaged in.
Thank you, GGail. She seems to comfortable, but refuses to eat or drink. I brought up her friend Annie, my other cat, to my bedroom. She spent quite a long time grooming her and Sophie was purring. The hardest thing is just feeling so helpless.
Ah Mary, I only just saw your news about Sophie and how she’s fading. I am so, so sorry, it must be completely heartbreaking for you. May she feel no pain and slip away gently, sending you love and hugs.
Thanks you so much, Chips. Hugs and love are what is needed right now. She seems comfortable and in no pain. Her friend Annie (my other cat) just spent a long time grooming her. I debated even going on here to say something, but am feeling pretty lonely right now so I am so thankful that I have this wonderful, compassionate place to ‘come’ to.
“Annie (my other cat) just spent a long time grooming her.”
Oh heavens Mary, animals are just extraordinary, the way they can sense things. So, so beautiful.
Wish we could all give you the biggest hug ever, such a desperately sad experience for you, but I bet you gave Sophie a wonderful life and you should be so proud of that. Thinking of you Mary, endless love.
Chips you are giving me hugs! And I appreciate you letting me talk about my cat in your space. Annie and Sophie were not litter mates, but they bonded at the home from which I adopted them which is why I adopted them both. they’ve had a lot of fun together and Annie, although bigger and older, depends on Sophie to stick up for her. It was very sweet to see her taking care of Sophie today.. Again, I truly, deeply appreciate the chance to talk about them a little bit.
Hugs to you maryl1. Wishing your Sophie continued comfort and peace as she makes her transition. Glad that you and your other kitty Annie are able to be with her.
This week marks the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, which was one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history during the late summer of 2005. In addition to showing the determination and courage of the victims and first responders – etched deep into the nation’s consciousness – Katrina also illustrated the perils that presidents face when they fail to deal with such calamities in a timely and efficient way, as George W. Bush discovered a decade ago. Strange as it may seem at this time of instant communication and the 24-hour news cycle, Bush didn’t pay attention to the biggest news story of the moment because he was on vacation and allowed himself to get isolated from the country.
Let’s face it…nobody CARED about GWB’s vacations! The way I see it, his 8 years in office was just one long disastrous vacation!
Hahahahahaha DF, that’s a good one! “nobody CARED about GWB’s vacations! The way I see it, his 8 years in office was just one long disastrous vacation!”
I’m here everyday; but, we are now into the third day of 2016 and I have yet to say, “Happy New Year.” So sorry. HAPPY NEW YEAR, to the TOD “family.” May God bless each of you with prosperity, peace, happiness, good health and love.
Hi!

yep, and Bloomberg naming this the ‘Obama Dollar Rally’ makes it so very clear who to thank :)
Maryl1…MadameSoph wrote this most beautiful post to you on the last thread. A must read:)
I agree, df. Just read to my hubby. He enjoyed.
I saw it, df, and I’ll treasure it. Thank you for making sure I knew about it. I brought my laptop and knitting up so I can just sit on the bed beside Sophie. No work getting done today. I’m here by myself today and the fellowship of TOD means a lot.

I know, but it helps to hear it.
Happy Anniversary Desert Flower! To get roses like that after spending so many years together…. he is definitely a keeper!
Thanks so much, MadameSoph! Yes…he’s a keeper:)
Thanks a trazillion Nerdy!!!

Honestly Jackie, we already knew he was vile, but that story beats all - risking the life of a baby to get revenge in a feud he created? I feel ill.
Karma is long overdue for this cretin. He’s gotten away with too many disgusting behaviors in his life and the time for reckoning needs to come soon. It’s frightening alright Jackie, just when we were recovering from so many people voting for Palin to be a heartbeat from the Presidency. Sometimes democracy is a serious disappointment.
And yet, it totally makes sense in light of his behavior and speech and business history. He has no “soul”
The way so many families can turn into “Lord of the Flies” when a will is involved has never ceased to amaze me.
On a more positive note: Congrats on the Man U win!
I’m sore from pinching myself Madame Soph, I’d forgotten what a Man U win felt like! :-)

Ahhh! Brilliant! You have my vote as ruler of the world!
My manifesto seems to be quite popular at TOD, although there have been a few grumbles about my weather plans (eg snow every day).
The man has nothing to benefit anyone other than himself. It feels like 30% of the US has been taken in by an online scam.
And the more awful he is, the more they seem to love him, 99ts - I despair!
Oh I love that, have been on that hwy many times and that is a most appropriate name change!
Happy New Year all my TOD friends and may your year be blessed !!!!!

I’d not heard of the guy until his bff fled to Russia - I really wonder if said bff will ever realise how much he was duped.

Truth! He wasn’t smart enough to take his job or the world’s issues, seriously….
